  1. GB, has it put you off flicking yer fag butt over the wall?
  2. I think the option of front-to-front or front-to-back and it'll win every design award going.
  3. I'm up for the 29th too. Don't really mind where, although the Castle might be interesting. Perhaps as additional entertainment, any potential future brides-to-be can bring the other half and propose over a chilled pint of Guinness. Then it's back to CWALD's afterwards for a sobering free range fried egg sandwich (or BBQ chicken;-)).
  4. Can you zip two (or more) together like with proper sleeping bags? Could be handy for those mid winter picnics on Goose Green.
  5. To the kind person(s) who found my wallet in ED and took the time out to post it through my letter box intact. Wish I'd been there to thank you personally. I owe you a big drink. Thank you.

  7. Ooh, Err! Very nice evening indeed. Met some lovely people for the first time plus the regular friendly faces. Thought the inflatable *Bob* and Alan propped up at the bar was a masterstroke. Look forward to the next gathering. Thanks for organising another great evening Georgia.
  8. I had a similar experience many years ago. Neighbours teenage kids and their friends partying in the garden and flicking the ends over the wall. I put them all in a plastic bag, went round the next day and knocked on the door. The mother opened the door and I simply said, "I think these belong to you." Never happened again.
  9. I wouldn't say it's rough. Except that last time I walked past they were using someone's eye socket to chalk the cue.
  10. That's all a bit doom and gloom Sean! There is some light ahead surely? Companies like Innocent, Fairtrade, Rough Trade Records, Co-Op etc, increased recycling, increased energy efficiency, increased awareness of the food we eat and so on. I would've thought this suggests a slightly brighter future if more people get on board.

  12. I'm half Italian and I tend to agree with that, although I've seen it many other countries too. In what is considered to be well behaved British society, children are far more restrained, restricted and disciplined. There is another side too. In our culture where relationships commonly break down and children are caught up in the emotional turmoil I often see them being over compensated with toys, games, money etc instead of the one thing they need most. Emotional security and love. Another parental skill that is often lacking is letting kids know where the line is. That line needs to remain constant so as not to confuse.
  13. Scared the life out of me!! Definitely not voting green now.

  16. But MP, click on the 2nd choice news story and see what she really looks like!

  18. Mmm... Ultimately you're quite right about the quality, but, when you're using it out on the street with all that background noise or on the beach with the white noise of the waves it hardly matters. I keep my CD's for playing at home in better quality sound but I'm also guilty of just docking it and letting it play for the convenience factor. I'm a Mac man. Does winamp work for Mac or is there another good alternative?
  19. Very true Sean but these guys tend get in because the landlords want them there and the original independent either wanted to cash in their pension or just couldn't operate on a viable margin. I'd prefer to support an independent where possible if it is run by somebody who cares about their product, service, cost etc but even these guys can be guilty of providing crap. I remember going to a newly opened cafe on Grays Inn Rd last year. The staff were disinterested, the Lemon Drizzle Cake was stale and when I complained they insisted it was freshly made that day. Customer is always right in my view (and in my practice). The coffee was good however, but I thought that if they carried on like that I couldn't see them succeeding. Guess what, less than a year later they've closed and chances are a multiple will snatch the opportunity.
  20. Not quite Brendan. The equivalent in murder terms would be to reach acceptable clear up rates. Don't you watch the wire?
  21. Do it. I'm using the 80gb version and I don't download from itunes. It's full from my own music collection which I've downloaded at apple lossless encoder quality. Bigger files so it only holds just over 3,200 tunes.
  22. nameless shareholders elsewhere - these are quite often the ordinary man on the street either through individual holdings or via pension funds. For ?2 you get to have an out of your kitchen experience! Would you not eat out for the same reason? I don't have any grudge to bear against the chains. Some are better than others as with the independents. When I'm in ED I tend to patronise Jacks, Petite Chou and Panin D'Oro for an Espresso Dopio. When I'm out and about I try and find an interesting looking independent cafe. But to be honest they aren't always to hand and the Nero's, Costa's, Apostrophe's etc often are when the caffeine addiction kicks in.
  23. Surely a chain has the potential to have much less impact on the environment than an equal number of independents? Efficiencies in buying and distribution reduces the carbon footprint. Sourcing ethical and fair trade ingredients supports good farming practice/independent producers. A high public profile creates pressure to act greener. Capital available to invest in technologies that reduce energy consumption and waste. Whether they do or not is another question.
