  1. Most bizaree football food I've had was when watching Russia v Italy WC qualifyers ('97) at the Dynamo Stadium in Moscow. Minus 5c and you couldn't see the pitch for the snow, let alone your seats. A group of Russians in front of us started handing out sausage and bread and neat Vodka which they'd sneaked in by simply emptying into a plastic bag and then cutting the corner to pour. Crap game but great atmosphere.
  2. Maurice can't you have a chat with those generous chaps at Northern Rock and move over from The Dark Side? Sorry Alan, I was thinking about the fast food thread and Rogan Josh came to mind.
  3. Why? Cultured, Humourous, Entertaining, Informative and Grumpy
  4. . . . has Alan and Maurice . . .
  5. Petitions are the new chain mail and used in much the same way to play on emotions like guilt.
  6. Hot dogs and footy burgers. Is this taste over matter? You know it's shite but you can't help yourself and your brain switches of as soon as you try and start to rationalise it. Much like smoking too many fags or doing too many drugs. OK Sean I know drugs aren't as important as food ...
  7. b999 I remember the first time I played that aged about 15 and actually felt the sensation you get in your stomach when you drive fast over a hill (which I am now). Used to be addicted to Defender and Astroids. Now it's PS3. Anyone downloaded the GT5 demo? What do you think?
  8. As we're 'fessing up I have to admit to just having had lunch at a big high st chain pizza restaurant in SE21. Sorry to let the side down. Pass me the Healthmatters own brand rice cake!
  9. It's probably an Apple tree if it's being chipped.
  10. Brilliant AD, just what we need at the top of LL where Dawsons Heights is. We could keep the facade and perhaps just add one big glass dome and have coloured searchlights sweeping across SE22 at night.
  11. Food SHOULD be far more important than TV though I'm not sure I was saying TV is more important simply saying you can choose to shop where you want based on taste, budget and geography. However, since we're on the subject, when I look around it seems that the vast majority of people (probably not on the EDF) don't seem to care about ingredients, source or preparation but instead prefer to watch mindless soaps and trashy reality TV. In fact it seems that our culture (and perhaps it's a class thing) care more about getting something quick and filling to sit in front of the TV with. Pot Noodles, Ready made meals, sandwiches and fatty take-aways are testament to that. Would love to know what % of the nations meals that constitutes versus people that are prepared to cook from fresh ingredients on a daily basis. The recent growth of Culinary TV is going some way to change this but look at the reaction in some quarters to Jamies School Dinners. Europe does it much better than us and I think thats where our recent gastronomic renaissence comes from (plus pacific region) but look at our cousins, the most obese nation on the planet and practically wed to their TV remote controls. People need better food education but it seems that the middle classes have the advantage there and the marketeers ride rampant on our TV screens peddling factory produced additive rich garbage to our kids. More people should try to NOT buy fruit, veg, meat and fish (and cheese) from the supermarket (I know it's not always possible for a whole host of reasons) but instead use some of the excellent independent traders we're blessed with around this area. If Northcross road expanded to also become a french style food market with local farmers produce I think it would be fantastic.
  12. M&S will suit the demographics of a lot of residents in and around ED quite nicely but it's also about choice and there's always Sainsburys, Iceland and Summerfield to suit other tastes and wallets. It's a bit like the OFF button on a TV.
  13. I dropped the complete works of Beethoven on my foot . . . . . . sob!
  14. Then that will become a Cop Shop too (sorry). Sean do you think take aways fall into the same category as ready made meals?
  15. Sorry to hear that Brendan. Reminds me of a mate from Jo'burg who had never been robbed, kidnapped etc. Came to London and was mugged at gunpoint in Soho within days! Generally I think country's are friendly as long as you're out of the metropolis and you're not at war with them. Some friends of mine just got back from Syria and said that it was the most unbelievably friendly and welcoming place they'd ever visited. Perhaps it could be said because they had different expectations. Most unfriendly place? Lagos without a doubt, although the music and bars kind've made up for it. I half agree with Sean's comments on France, Robbed twice in Paris (not violently) but have always found the rest of the country, even Le Penn territory most welcoming except possibly in the Basque region near the Spanish border.
  16. There's some truth in that Asset. Show me a dysfunctional family and I'll show you a family that don't sit together at mealtimes and communicate.
  17. Isn't Fresh n' Wild becoming a bit High St now? I don't rate them that much and I think if you look at shops like SMB, Pretty Traditional, Health Matters, William Rose and Moxoms you've got shops that can do it better.
  18. I've always found Kenya a friendly welcoming place and Jamaica as long as you're outside of Kingston and other big towns and tourist traps.
  19. I've just cut some sage from the garden and I'm going to fry it up in butter and olive oil with some freshly chopped garlic and red chilli. Then squeeze in some lemon juice, S & P to taste and mix in some fresh pasta. Parmegianno and basil to finish. Takes 10 mins.
  20. With you there Dom
  21. Wish there was a Waitrose in LL. Perhaps Dawsons Heights could be demolished (like the Heygate) and redeveloped as an iconic shopping center with luxury flats to take advantage of the views.
  22. A few more pound shops and second hand shop, perhaps a cash converters, Primark, TK Max. That should resume the balance with the meaningless tatt shops.
  23. Police never fail to impress on how they choose to tactically employ resources. Our fruit and veg delivery got nicked and upon viewing the CCTV I discovered that some local tealeafs had made away with it at 4 that morning. Stupidly they did it again the next day so I called in the Police who decided to stake out the back of my bar early next morning. 5 police waited in the shadows from 3 and soon caught the bloke red handed with a sack of potato's! Ask them to stake out Goose Green and Northcross Road and stop more heinous activities and they're too busy baton rattling down Whately Rd.
  24. I'm all for competition. Were you thinking of starting a smiling competition? Best retail smile on LL? I've always found the Cheese Block guys to be really good humoured and Health Matters staff have always been helpful too. Perhaps they're saddened by your imminent departure.
  25. Hold down texting finger whilst also pressing stop on MP3, bend over and re-boot. You may have to do this several times before memory starts to work.
