  1. Shame they didn't quite reach 500. Will England declare overnight?
  2. I can't link, but Daily Mail has article on Brockwell Park possibly having to cancel events after court hearing. Just checked, Guardian has reported it too!
  3. I haven't eaten there, but on Instagram the vegetarian food from Persepolis looks scrummy. At a talk I went to, Sally Butcher and her husband cooked wonderful tasters so I can rate their food.
  4. I saw "A Man for All Seasons" at Canterbury a few months ago. It was superb and surprisingly, Gary Wilmot was excellent. It is coming to London in the autumn and is well worth a trip. Wed, 6th August 2025 to Sat, 6th September 2025 Harold Pinter Theatre
  5. My dentist has moved to Peckham High Street. They now have fab rooms and have employed more local people.
  6. Artichoke Place, same side as the Green.
  7. This is rather twee, but quite a good idea: https://shop.nationaltrust.org.uk/woolie-the-sheep-with-bird-nesting-wool.html
  8. I've used Mattress Man twice, can thoroughly recommend. It is worth investing in a good mattress (£400 plus), since you spend a lot of time in bed and they will last for years. I favour a firm well-sprung mattress which I find gives good support. Don't forget to turn your mattress regularly: side to side every couple of months, and top to bottom at least once a year. This will ensure even wear.
  9. Plus ca change During WWI, Vera Brittain worked as a VAD nurse at the 1st London General Hospital, Camberwell - the military extension of St Bartholomew's Hospital. The satellite hostel was nearly two miles away on Champion Hill. "...it seemed strange to be the quarter-possessor of a bare-boarded room divided into cubicles by much-washed curtains of no recognisable colour, with only a bed, a washstand and a tiny chest of drawers to represent one's earthly possessions... to meet the needs of about twenty young women, was one cold bathroom equipped with an ancient and unreliable geyser...which took about twenty minutes to half fill the bath with lukewarm water." Edited to add source: "Testament of Youth" by Vera Brittain published 1933.

  12. The National Autistic Society UK don't appear to have a Southwark branch, but they offer help if you wish to start your own local one: Join one of our online branches and get to know fellow autistic people with a shared interest, identity or experience. Can't find a branch that's right for you? Why not start up your own? Please email [email protected] for more information. All of our branches' events and activities are individually risk assessed. 13. 1. Brunswick House - LASSCO - England's prime resource for Architectural Antiques, Salvage Curiosities (v. expensive) 2. There used to be one on Lewisham Way, don't know if it's still there. 3. Ditto Burgess Park
  14. @MrsR I've seen mistle thrushes on the running track at Peckham Rye Park. I don't know if they're gregarious like starlings, but there were quite a few.

  16. This house is lovely, but the price!! I haven't looked locally in a long time, is this standard now? For Sale: Underhill Road, London SE22 | Inigo
  17. I thought it was a protected view, but this website shows otherwise: London's Protected Views — Richard Gower This site may be of interest: Protected views and tall buildings - City of London Very sad, I always plonk on the bench and admire the view on the few occasions I go to the cemetery.
  18. Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 10am to, I think, 3pm.
  19. Happy to report that either the storm took the blessed chimes away, or a neighbour took pity on me, for which many thanks.
  20. Alas, I am surrounded on three sides by gardens with high fences/hedges. If I could scale the fences, the chimes would be long gone. There are seven possible suspects; I haven't the energy to have a potentially explosive conversation with all of them. Posting here allows me to vent. It may be futile, but you never know...
  21. Please, please, please, take them down before tonight's storm. The ones in my neighbour's garden are jolly annoying already. Muschamp Road: I'm looking at you! Edits 1. To correct grammar 2. To correct street name 3. To apologise for swearing, I am going a little bit nuts from them, as you may be able to tell.
  22. No, mine's been fine.
  23. Don't vandalise this thread, Malumbu.
  24. You may be an undigested bit of beef, a blot of mustard, a crumb of cheese, a fragment of an underdone potato. There’s more of gravy than of grave about you, whatever you are!
