  1. Any news? This might fare better in the Lounge or ED Section.
  2. Here is the Daily Mail article, quite useful for everyday COVID use: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-8682297/How-virus-proof-mask-laboratory-conditions-professor-answers-burning-question.html If you want to scare yourself silly then here is an article from (a relatively sane) US prepper site which covers heavyweight respirators, etc. Their research seems pretty good: https://theprepared.com/gear/reviews/best-gas-mask-respirator-survival/
  3. Anybody else notice Flock & Herd had a mention in dispatches in the Guardian's OBO?
  4. @ abingdon: not solely (see what I did there) a fish restaurant, but Peckham Bazaar in Nunhead usually has good fish/seafood choices on their menu.
  5. johnrich: not open at the moment, but the Wildlife Centre in Marsden Road is a good place to see tadpoles/frogs. Keep an eye on their website for when they reopen. Annie5: I believe Hampshire still have red squirrels. Chocky: what a lovely sentiment.
  6. What would we be extinguishing, btw? Mozart, Debussy, Joplin, Gershwin, Bilk, ...? I'd say 20thC but not sure what. Memory's now playing tricks: was it in fact an oboe? Does that make it socially more acceptable?
  7. It was so bad, I left town for two days! I think I favour the melodeon or asp method at the moment. We could write Mid-Summer Murders as a collective, and make a fortune out of my misery.
  8. JohnL - rather it were improvements on a clarinet. KK - do you mean retaliate with Peter Gabriel? Thank you, Spartacus (said tartly).
  9. Recommendations please. Some plonker practising a clarinet in the garden from 8.10 am this morning is making me desperate.
  10. Aeons ago I worked for MOD in Berkeley Square building (long since given way to Saatchi). I heard Vera Lynn rehearse "Nightingale" for a garden party in the Square. It was rather charming to hear it sung in Berkeley Square itself.
  11. I've received a parking fine in the one of the new zones. I thought these were suspended for the Covid crisis? Some warning that they had rescinded this would have been useful
  12. Waterglass is your friend, Sue: https://www.1900s.org.uk/1940s50s-preserving-eggs.htm PS: I'm rereading Little House on Prairie trilogy; it was bloody hard work surviving in the 19th early 20th centuries. But at least I could build you a log cabin and preserve a pig should this quarantine take a darker turn!
  13. That's brilliant!
  14. This from the Daily Mail (soz!) Hats off to the Fishmongers? Company?s Charitable Trust for a fantastic initiative in partnership with Minicabit, the largest taxi-comparison service. The ?150,000 scheme pays for minicabs to take NHS workers to and from work during the pandemic. This will be helpful for workers coming off late shifts and staff in rural communities who often have long journeys. It will also enable frontline staff to avoid public transport, thus reducing their chances of infection. Rides are free while funds last and cover trips up to ?50. If you know NHS staff, tell them about it. You can help keep it going by donating online at gofundme.com/f/free-cabs-for-nhs
  15. Exactly that. Though you need to work in the Red Admiral.
  16. Sounds like the first line of a folk song!
  17. I witnessed an avian Spitfire versus ME109 battle this morning. I was alerted by a rather large crash into my kitchen door: a pigeon (which is annoyingly nesting above) and a magpie were having a massive scrap. Do magpies take squabs?
  18. So sorry for your loss, bettyorange. As I understand it, if you live on your own, you isolate for 7 days. If you live with others, you all isolate for 14 days.
  19. That's a brilliant idea Z-Z. Top hole!
  20. A name would be useful. If he is confused, it could help to approach him by using his name.
