  1. I once saw Peggy Mount play Madame Arcarti (Richmond or Wimbledon or something like that). She was absolutely brilliant - very funny (whispers - better than Margaret Rutherford).
  2. Well done WQ and MP. It's a hard slog to study as an adult with all one's other commitments. CO - congratulations.
  3. I remember going to see Shadowlands with Nigel Hawthorne and Jane Lapotaire. I just sat in my seat and wept at the end of it. Highly embarrassing.
  4. The champion of lists: or maybe this edited cos of pesky computer
  5. Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves - Cher
  6. I think we should lobby the Olympics Committee for beach cricket. As pertinent as beach volleyball me thinks.
  7. Me & Julio down by the schoolyard - Simon & Garfunkel
  8. I know what I'm about to say is flippant, but I can't help it. Don't you think that the cyclists' helmets look like a bunch of sperm racing for an egg?
  9. I think Brendan, that the cheese and jam combination is actually quite a common thing in London of yore (at least according to my mum!).
  10. Hi Admin Hi Admin I understand why you've banned ND but I do think she had a valid point. Shu's comment about 'dodgy looking staff' was as offensive as the original use of 'sushi' and yet ND was the only one to challenge him - albeit in a rather ill-advised way. Perhaps her post should be removed and she be given another chance? I have been offended by Shu in the past - some of his early posts were extremely anti-religious. However, it's generally not in my nature to bother responding. We all have to rub along and ignore some things that are offensive or stupid and just make a mental note not to bother with that poster again and mark them down as ignorant and/or hypocritcal. Shu seems to think that only his sensibilities count - in a community(forum), everyone's does. regards Janet
  11. Not sure that Mr Spitz didn't win with more charm and good humour. Something not quite attractive about Phelps.
  12. Thought we'd rotate venues. Anyone want to suggest venue and date? Shall we stick to Mondays at 8pm once a month?
  13. I heard something on the radio today (don't know how verifiable it is) that said that 90% of atheletes would take drugs if they were certain they wouldn't get caught. Really hope that is wrong cos it's just wrong.
  14. It's a corruption of the name of the bloke who worked for Alleyn - or something like that. Based on the one d, I pronounce it A-dys as opposed to Addies.
  15. I'm there too, but with cheddar and strawberry only.
  16. My dear old Gran always pronounced Pepys Road in New Cross as Peppies.
  17. Thoroughly enjoyed last night, have had my head in Mary Wesley biography all morning.
  18. Mention in dispatches: The Lady Vanishes - both original and remake are thoroughly enjoyable.
  19. It's been a lovely acquaintance, Brendan.
  20. Am watching the archery with its extremely hi-tech bows. Does anyone else have a secret craving for someone like Errol Flyn or Richard Todd to just saunter up with their piece of wood and splice an arrow already on the target?
  21. That's the trouble - never heard of it. I remember when it was a children's materials/recycling centre, nothing since. If they declare they are there for the people of Peckham and then never publicise it, it's hardly surprising that it's being closed down. Obviously only there for a small clique.
