  1. Thought we'd rotate venues. Anyone want to suggest venue and date? Shall we stick to Mondays at 8pm once a month?
  2. I heard something on the radio today (don't know how verifiable it is) that said that 90% of atheletes would take drugs if they were certain they wouldn't get caught. Really hope that is wrong cos it's just wrong.
  3. It's a corruption of the name of the bloke who worked for Alleyn - or something like that. Based on the one d, I pronounce it A-dys as opposed to Addies.
  4. I'm there too, but with cheddar and strawberry only.
  5. My dear old Gran always pronounced Pepys Road in New Cross as Peppies.
  6. Thoroughly enjoyed last night, have had my head in Mary Wesley biography all morning.
  7. Mention in dispatches: The Lady Vanishes - both original and remake are thoroughly enjoyable.
  8. It's been a lovely acquaintance, Brendan.
  9. Am watching the archery with its extremely hi-tech bows. Does anyone else have a secret craving for someone like Errol Flyn or Richard Todd to just saunter up with their piece of wood and splice an arrow already on the target?
  10. That's the trouble - never heard of it. I remember when it was a children's materials/recycling centre, nothing since. If they declare they are there for the people of Peckham and then never publicise it, it's hardly surprising that it's being closed down. Obviously only there for a small clique.
  11. Having watched, last night, the programme where Gordon Ramsay advises failing business, the overriding point he was making is that a pub needs to serve good, honest, simple pub food really well and not try to do poncy restaurant food. Seems like The Duke is on course.
  12. Had to break down by genre. The first offering is WW II films: Mrs Miniver Went the Day Well The Dambusters Reach for the Sky A Canterbury Tale In Which We Serve Carve Her Name with Pride The Way to the Stars The Colditz Story (for the immortal 'undertaker' line) Ice Cold in Alex --- Can't get it down to 10 A Matter of Life & Death A Bridge Too Far Bridge on the River Kwai A Town Like Alice And so many I had to miss out
  13. Darling Michael - have some Head & Shoulders.
  14. Remember the one from a couple of years ago specifically about Peckham [ahem]. Gangsters would drive round without their lights on. The first person to flash them got shot.
  15. People, if you'd ever used one of the Post Offices in Peckham, you would cherish the one on LL. And yes, the staff are very helpful.
  16. Maybe the old Williams Electrical building?
  17. The road markings have faded quite badly on that road, but, the legal parking on the pavement bit doesn't start until about 15 yards up. If you look carefully, you will see some lines marked half on the pavement.
  18. Ugh to Marathon Man. Can't bear dentists as it is. Always got creeped out by the opening of Lean's Great Expectations, when Pip gets nabbed by the escaped convict.
  19. Bagsy sex monitor. GigGirl, surely you meant: "If there is hope... it lies in the profiteroles"
  20. Bonkers. (polite version)
  21. I think you'll find all redheads are gorgeous. ed. for atrocious spelling.
  22. I hate horror films. The Stepford Wives (original) and Village of the Damned (ditto) are about as strong as I can take it. Inadvertently watched The Wicker Man (had no idea of its genre) which gave me nightmares for ages.
  23. Careful Brendan - that's another wicket - you might do it.
  24. What, for more scintillating dinner party conversation?
