    I'd second AC's suggestion with modifications. Use Kir or liqueur of choice rather than vinegar. Get the meringues from Andersons(?) on Bellenden Road - absolutely scrumptious and cheaper than elsewhere. And just whipped double cream will do. Voila - a posh Eton Mess.

    I hate to draw attention to the D.Mail, but they have a low down on four peeps who followed the diet. Three seem to be for it, one against. Dieticians seem to be against other than for a short-term kick, as a heavily protein-biased diet is not seen as a very healthy option.

    Southbank good for a wander. Start at Westminster Bridge and mooch up to London Bridge - lots to see on the way and as cheap or expensive as you want to make it.

    Can you post the proposed design on here? I couldn't access the plan. I love seeing kids play cricket on the lower end, it would be a shame if that were stopped.

    It doesn't cost anything to join a library. If you go on the Southwark Council website, they have a library section which will probably tell you what id you need.

    Alas no, it sounds wonderful. (Are you quite sure it didn't answer to the name of Captain Flint?) The best I've ever seen is someone walking their ferret on a collar and lead round Peckham Rye Park.

    Kwik cricket might the the way forward for one so young. You can even start your own team. Best to stick to underarm bowling at this age - too much overarm can cause shoulder/back problems. Kwik Cricket

    I certainly shall, pommie, that's the least of my civic duties. He's an old chap who derives a great deal of pleasure from his dogs, and doesn't ill treat them (in my opinion). However, possibly he doesn't understand the instinct that terriers have and I will happily point this out and suggest ways of curtailing that urge.

    pommie, I think the reference to him hitting the dog was him trying to get the dog off the cat. It's not his usual behaviour to them. And can I just comment that while what happened was terrible and he needs to be reeducated with regard to the dogs (who by the way are absolutely fine with children), I have always found him a very affable chap and I'm becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the witch hunty tone of this thread.

    While high viz is good for other road users to spot the cyclist, research has been done that wearing high viz/helmet, etc gives the rider a feeling of invulnerability and they do not ride as carefully/defensively as they should. I will try and find the research but it was some years ago that I was looking into it when my daughter first started cycling on roads.

    According to my mother, in the 1950s the Parkie used to hide in the bushes and jump out at cyclists going too fast - apparently a valid sport back then.
