  1. I'm told by Mrs Kford that MkOne is a cheap and cheerful clothing chain, like Primark, but not cool. Website: http://www.mkone.co.uk/students.html
  2. I hope that that whole ugly block is demolished, but that won't happen soon. And I find it a bit strange that NatWest are opening branches, when there's a generation of people emerging now who do their banking entirely online or by phone. I can't remember the last time I went into a bank.
  3. That would be ?18.17 a session for me then.
  4. What was the 'old ED way of life', anyway? As I remember (not so long ago) it was infamous for scruffy pubs full of wheezing old drunks and dossers; tatty, understocked shops (Unwins?); an overpriced glaziers; rubbish dining and genuinely unruly kids in pushchairs. I think I prefer this way, thank you.
  5. Oh, and they tend to tow first the vehicles whose owners look like they can afford the release fee. I once saw a clapped-out old Saab parked in Southwark left just ticketed while other, newer, vehicles were removed. The Saab was left for weeks gathering dust.

  8. And why do people speed in built up areas? Because they perceive that they've been delayed (by new traffic lights, perhaps) and have to make up lost time. It's the so-called champagne cork effect.
  9. M&S if in town; PO on LL otherwise. You might have to order exotic stuff like Egyption pounds though.
  10. Coppers are only exempt from the highway code when on a call, i.e. with their blues & twos on. Otherwise they have to adhere to the same rules as us. Except they don't.
  11. Concorde was always at around 5 and then again at around 6.30 as I remember.
  12. Simon M is on the money with that one. I've never known lights to installed and then removed. It goes against the general ant-car policy of local councils (even though poorly sited lights affect badly bus traffic).
  13. Very good point. I know that they have to have their cap (and not their helmet) on when issuing a PCN. Worth snapping them on your phone or with a digital camera for any appeals. And as long as the ticket isn't issued (placed on) the vehicle, it's not valid under the 'the offence did not take place' caveat.
  14. "unless a case is made for their retention" These lights will be kept, mark my words.
  15. No CPZ. They are nothing to do with parking in this city and everything to do with making money.
  16. But not if the local traders run a fleet of vehicles which they store on residents' streets. That's unfair and affects everyone, regardless of how they get about.
  17. Don't wish for permits - you'll regret it. You can have as many as you like anyway, if the vehicle is registered at that address. And when permit bays are painted in, they never leave as many spaces as were there before. Plus the added hassles of having to have a book of visitor passes (5GBP-10GBP a pop) for tradesmen and relatives. Plus, permits are not effectve on the weekend when most parking congestion occurs from shoppers. Unless, like in Australia, the permits issued free only to residents of a particular street, but that would never, ever happen over here - too sensible.
  18. Plough DIY - good people.
  19. I noticed aircraft this morning. Strange. It was a higher pitched drone, usually found on 757s and some Airbus. Don't notice earlier flights ordinarily because they're mostly deeper sounding 747s or A340s from the states, far east or down under.
  20. Green & Blue has an interesting selection.
  21. Hence all the concrete-tiled rooves, pebbledash and metal framed or non-standard windows in the area, especially in the shops opposite the Co-op block on LL.
  22. What about Hansler? I've heard it's just another version of Henslowe, but I'm not convinced.
  23. Harradines of Peckham were fine. Couple of marks on a unit, but careful otherwise. Friendly lads. Ended up having a pint with them up at Liquorice afterwards!(They had by then finished for the day, if their bosses are reading)
