  1. And don't be silly, frisco.
  2. Around a station, near a school, I can just about see a justification as this involves daytime parking issues. But beware, fines make up a big proportion of a council's parking 'profit', so those guys buzzing around on scooters will be issuing PCNs for the slightest infringement. Although there would be no excuse for parking outside of our allocated zone without a permit, or on a yellow line at the wrong time, or thoughtlessly blocking a ramp or an access road, I guarantee even the most cautious driver will get tickets. From my time in a CPZ, my neigbours and I recieved PCNs for the following spurious reasons: In the five minutes we were inside scratching off the dates on the day pass (?15/book valid only for two years) to place on a relative's car For having one wheel over the white line at the end of the CPZ (even though the other wheel was in). Clamped and removed because the disc fell from the screen while we were away on hols in hot summer of 2003 (in the plastic holder provided by Lambeth) because the permit number (but not the date) was slightly obscured. ?280 to get the car back. On a buider's van in the time it took for him to carry his stuff to our door and before we could give him his vistor's pass None were successfully appealed. Be careful what you wish for.
  3. No no no no no no no. Lived in one before which actually caused more grief after it was introduced. Just a cash-cow that won't stop LL parking problems, as most issues arise with evening diners and weekend and evening shoppers whose parking falls outside the patrolled hours. I already pay to have my car on the road through vehicle licence duty.
  4. Bloody hell - ban the fish van on Saturday then. It's surely a hazard, especially with his noisy generator masking the sounds on oncoming traffic.
  5. The Hamlet's ground is the unit base; it's just lighting trucks by Budgens. Still there this morning in the same location, which is rare for an ad, unless it's for Budgens, which is unlikely as it's not exactly a flagship store. Hmm...
  6. What business-speak twaddle.
  7. The only TV show he's involved in at the mo is this: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1132157/ But it's only in pre-production, so it must be an ad.
  8. The Palmerston is his favourite restaurant. Fact.
  9. Kennedys sounds like it could make a killing if it got its arse in gear. Sounds like they've just lost interest. What a pity. Re: bakeries: went to Hirsts once. As bad as Greggs. Bland, porn-white bread and very suspect 'cream'.
  10. Frisco is right. And we absolutely do not need a Gregg's though. They're the Starbucks/Subway/MacDonalds of bakers. And if you knew what went into their two-for-a-pound sausage rolls... yuk.
  11. Er, read my message again - I said 'not an expensive one, a quality one'. I too hate paying more than a quid for a loaf.
  12. We need a quality baker badly. Not an expensive one, a quality one. The other baker in LL is OK, but just erring on the Greggs side in variety. And there's nothing snobby or poncy about wanting lovely fresh and interesting bread and cakes, by the way; that's a silly class-ridden attitude that belongs in another era.
  13. Would it have once been a toll road, like the upper section of College Road? Might explain its unadopted state.
  14. It's the demand from China that's pushed prices up, especially copper.
  15. Gallery Road is peppered with holes, isn't it?
  16. Thanks, blinder99, 35 mins sounds like a good workout. And two near misses is good going!
  17. blinder999, how long does that take? I currently motorcycle to Baker Street (20-25 mins) but will be mixing that with some pedal power next year. Your journey looks similar in length.
  18. She's operating out of a house just up the road. Mrs Kford found out by accident the other day when she went for a session. They're planning a move to Peckham Rye in the new year.
  19. A friend of a friend was a bus driver in the Midlands. If he had a bus full of rowdy or miserable passengers, which was often, he would say to himself 'you're all a bunch of arses, aren't you?' then jab the brakes a couple of times to make the passengers nod 'yes'.
  20. SBS - Small Bus Syndrome.
  21. EDOldie is correct but it's a chore to get the tandoori chicken right, as Heston Blumenthal will tell you. I agree with Jeremey, there is a lot of slop around, and crimes like serving Balti as a takeaway or all-you-can-eat buffets are rife on LL (and in London generally). My experience of BBC is that it's just a bit... bland.
  22. BBC - curry for people who have never eaten curry before.
  23. Out of all the Italian chains (Zizzi, Bella Pasta etc), Stada is one of the better ones. However, it belongs in Clapham or the West End.
  24. 'Ethnic cleansing' - hang on, these families are not being forced out; they're taking the money and running. The large Indian family we 'displaced' moved because our property was too small for them and they fancied moving out to somewhere quieter. They were seduced by the estate agent doordrops, obviously. Maybe we should follow them up with leaflets saying 'Please stay and help keep ED diverse'. Jerk Rock closed because it was rubbish, by the way. If it was a decent ethnic restaurant, I'm sure it would've survived.
