  1. Townies = bored locals Cityies = ex-townies who want to do something with their lives.
  2. I'm with ChavWiva - it's much safer down here than Up North. Even in my small West Midlands hometown they had to sweep up the eyeballs at closing time.
  3. Mr Lui. Try the lotus leaf rice. Yum.
  4. Came back off my hols this year to find my CBR600 on its side. Probably bad parking; it can be hard to judge bikes when they're parked on an angle. Still, no excuse. I actually watched someone reverse and knock over our two bikes with his Discovery at our old place. Red faced, he coughed up his details.
  5. Even better.
  6. I heard them all the way up Hansler. If it's 'entertainment', do they need a licence?! I might organise a really loud science class next door.
  7. It's the kind of venture Inside 72 or Liqurice should set up during the day when it's quiet; all they need is a few cheap but powerful laptops and a wireless network (I think Inside already has one). They'd piss all over that pricey dump and sell a few drinks too.
  8. Note how white window frames are scarce on the Victorian properties. Much nicer.
  9. Nothing. Must have been another bendy bus.
  10. I thought I could smell burnt plastic when I rode past. Going out to have a sniff around, so to speak.
  11. I think that's a big part of the BTP's remit.
  12. If you look at the back of security vans they all now have stickers that read: POLICE: FOLLOW THIS VEHICLE. I suppose that when a patrol is idle or between calls, they can now be doing something productive and preventative.
  13. Haart - bad experience. Too flash and selly, even for estate agents.
  14. Good for you not doing the church thing, oggers.
  15. As much as I hate Murdoch and his bunch, I have to say Sky+ will change the way you watch TV. It frees up more time to do other, more useful, things.
  16. What a bang-on idea. I'll be watching for finger-licking though.
  17. No offence, Marmalade; I mean that truly :)
  18. Marmalade, I'm not insulting your home, I'm offering a critique of the building it's located in. Don't take it so personally, it's just bricks and mortar. And I am entitled, on this site, to offer an opinion on anything in East Dulwich with affects my living here. And that block - which includes the Victorian shop that houses Winkworth, the 70s unit that houses Budgens and the windowless substation on Northcross Road - is not something I like.
  19. Sorry, that block's is a blot on the ED landscape. I'm sure they're lovely and spacious inside, but it's a depressing eyesore. As bad as the police station. And I'm not wishing for a chintzy Victorian pastiche in its place, as that would be worse. I'd just like to see a well-thought out, well-designed, modern arcade like the one containing Sainsbury's in Forest Hill.
  20. The problem isn't to do with the content of the store, not who will or will not shop there. The problem is that it will open the floodgates to every other 100+ stores chains. Do we really want a LL packed with the likes of Snappy Snaps, Superdrug, Carphone Warehouse, Hallmark Cards or KFC?
  21. No big chains, please. We don't want Streatham High Road.

I'll be one of them in five years (does that make me a younger person?) But when I do, I won't suddenly wake up on my 40th and think "oh no, this internet banking thing is just TOO convenient, I must go back to queueing outside my local branch in the rain, waiting for it to open at 9am, then queueing again while a single cashier miserably and manually processes cheques and banker's drafts. Neither will the millions of others who have embraced the digital age, and they're not all under 40s. Expect NatWest's publicity exercise to be rolled back in a few years' time.
  23. They to get away now and again, for a dirty weekend.

In the case of apartment blocks, the Government requirement is actually to provide only parking for around 60% of the block, to discourage car use. Which means that motorists just park on neighbourhood roads. Clever.
  25. Ditto with a housemate in the Camberwell New Road, circa 1994.
