    X Factor

there are loads! you wont find them watching X factor though.
  3. The Overground service is brilliant. If I'm visiting friends out East then getting back is a doddle. Just get off at Forest Hill and then catch the 176/185 down LL. Nice.
  4. does anyone have any tips of a decent winter training / audax bike I can get at a reasonable price? I was thinking Ribble as they aren't too dear from my google research. I would love a Condor Fratello. I have a Specialised Allez at the moment but I just feel much more comfortable with a horizontal top tube and I want the appropriate winter trappings as I really only use it for commuting to work and maybe poodling around at the weekend with the missus. Want to install panniers too so baby can sit on the back.

being beeped from behind because I haven't sped away from the lights doing 0-60 in 3 seconds the moment the light goes amber.

Marie81 - we all hate it when people speed up behind us but I'm of the opinion that if someone drives like that on a quiet residential street then there is a higher likelihood they are the kind of person who will drag me out of my car and beat the proverbial out of me if I start "toying" with them. It's up to you whether you want to play games on the road with potentially psychotic drivers but my advice would be to calmly pull over and let them speed off to the next set of traffic lights.

I've experienced that too DJKQ, I didnt spot this FOOL until the very last minute as I was topping 120 in my BMW M3 (convertible) and I had to swerve abruptly across the road.
  8. i think Franklins, the Mag and the Palmerston are all regarded pretty highly in this regard. Mag is the cheapest and least informal of the three.

Narnia - if the inside is too busy and too slow for you to be in it then by all means stay in the middle lane - you are after all overtaking. It is when the inside lane is by and large empty and people in the middle lane are either driving at the same speed as the inside lane traffic (no overtaking) or there is no traffic to the left (again, no overtaking) that this middle lane hogging complaint relates to. Whether compliance with this rule facilitates the crime of others driving at 71mph is the police's business and not the middle lane hoggers'.

I think the problem is that middle lane hoggers feel quite righteous about the fact they are 'enforcing' the speed limit even though their actions make motorways more dangerous and alot more congested.

if someone comes up too close behind me I just pull over to the left and let them pass. I dont want to be involved in a road rage incident. Good on you though - really striking a blow for, err I'm not sure who.

IF THE driver behind you is too close, indicate leisurely to your left and pull into the left hand lane when safe to do so. Let the impatient / quicker / tosser driver get past and continue driving, humming contentedly to Fleetwood Mac, knowing you have bigger battles to fight and more important things to worry about than petty and potentially dangerous acts of traffic vigilantism.
  14. how many times are we going to lose by 10 point to the tri-nations and its a result we can "take heart" from. 7 years of rebuilding since 2003 and it still feels like a work in progress. and have the ticket sellers at the new Lansdowne Rd never heard of market research? Disaster.

Waynetta, take your personal 70 mph maximum crusade to the outside lane. Following your logic you are perfectly in the right. Middle lane hoggers are unconfident drivers ~ afraid of changing lanes maybe?
  16. the LL end of Pellatt Rd is my facvourite part
  17. I saw a book the other day which was slating the american positivism myth. I read a bit. The author was such a h8er.
  18. I am so apathetic about everything I can't even be bothered to... ah sod it.
  19. I bought a Vespa before moving out this way and I'd really recommend it too.
  20. untamed... I apologise if the responses so far haven't really understood the gravity of your situation; it takes you an hour to get to work and you don't like it. I suggest that we start a petition right now to get a tube installed FORTHWITH to end this needless suffering. 1. Felt-tip 2. Mrs. Felt-tip (Felt-tip appointed proxy)
  21. May I recommend to you.... Clapham. Please do report back on how much of an utterly FAB time you're having there.
  22. Tarot - no I dont but he looks really familiar. Have you read the book by the way? Its ace. Page turning historical yarn... bit like James Clavell stuff. And the sequel - world without end is a good read too.
  23. That is mightily impressive.
