  1. I'm guessing you read Digg, Mockney ;-)
  2. That's funny - the exact opposite of my experience! I thought he was good, but a bit too po-faced, until I went to see him at ULU a couple of years ago. That night he had a great sense of humour about his miserabilist songs.
  3. Anyone else like Bright Eyes? He's got a new single out, which is rather good: Bright Eyes on Youtube
  4. They're great, aren't they? Best thing in the paper! Though the kids do usually come across as utterly vile... I just noticed the archive links aren't actually on that page, but they are at the bottom of this page for some reason: Episode 29
  5. Hi Shambles Have you read the Saturday Guardian column 'Living With Teenagers'? The life of the poor mother who writes it sounds hellish, but I feel it's preparing me for what I may have to put up with in a few years' time. You can read old episodes online (see archive links at the bottom of the following page). Clearly, you're not alone. Guardian - living with teenagers
  6. Steven Patrick innit? Genius, yes. Must go and dig out Hatful of Hollow.
  7. Unless I'm imagining it - 'sex'
  8. I am intrigued by the red neon sign that hangs in the window.
  9. same here. I was hoping it was about some crazy free Guinness offer :-S
  10. nearly payday for me too - Gulag Orkestar should be landing on my doormat tomorrow
  11. Our flat used to be an Irish shop. They converted the shop and the flat above into two self-contained flats, cashed in their chips and went back to Ireland many years ago.
  12. Friday 13th is good for me too!
  13. haha yes - how dare anyone like beautiful places with reliably good weather and great food - up against the wall with the bourgeoisie. I shall be sitting in a deckchair under grey skies at Butlins with a knotted hankie on my head eating greasy chips from a paper cone.

  16. A bizarre local cultural experience: The chef from Franklins teaching us how to cook and eat langoustines to a soundtrack by Arcade Fire:
  17. They moan about the same stuff as us, and they have a good busy forum. Found a link to a good Telegraph article on the evils of too many estate agents in Highgate: http://www.telegraph.co.uk
  18. Yes, I find them one or two of them in there a bit supercilious, though I do like their stock.
  19. CPT, what a good idea, I'll be there.
  20. No, Scott doesn't chase record deals, just does it for fun I think. He did make an album a few years ago, and sold it himself. He lives in Tokyo and records in his spare room, and plays mandolin in an Irish folk band! New Vegas sounds good but blimey you've compressed it to death!
  21. we have the same record collection I think... did you listen to my American friend's effort? Go on, give it a whirl, the guy can sing: revolutionary.mp3
  22. ooh yes this is my fave BSS track from the great You Forgot It In People
  23. My ex-bandmate friend Scott's new song: Revolutionary.mp3. Sort of DIY Elliott Smith / Smog kind of thing, so should appeal to some of you... The story behind the song is on his site, http://www.slackisland.org
  24. Nice to meet several of you Friday night - pity I was too hungover to make Keef's gig at the CPT! When's the next one Keef?
  25. haha reminds me of this from lordshiplane.co.uk: Camberwell & Peckham Times SATURDAY, APRIL 28,1900 The long-suffering patience of the luckless residents in East Dulwich has, once more, reached the limit of endurance and a cry for redress of its wrongs will shortly find utterance. The withdrawal of the service of tramcars between the Heaton Arms and Lordship Lane - meagre and dear as it was - has resulted in great inconvenience to the residents in the populous district of East Dulwich who are forced to either breast the steep of Dog Kennel Hill, or ride by a circuitous omnibus route and intermittent service of trains to and from the busy centres of Camberwell and Peckham...
