Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
DJKillaQueen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My point mynamehere is the same as Sue's above. That the extension of the alcohol licence is a red herring as it is only an extension of one hour, at the beginning of the day and will not change the hour at which the co-op stop selling alcohol each day. And that James B has deliberately mislead people by confusing that with premises that sell alcohol 24/7. If there is a second application it should be up on the southwark site. I'll have a look. -
Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
DJKillaQueen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Alan, there are plenty of examples of james being vague and deliberately misleading. Perhaps if he didn't have a history of it then people might be a bit more forgiving of the vagueness of his opening post. So I stand by my view and we'll have to agree to disagree yet again (funny how you rear your head as soon I as post though - a thread you seemingly had no interest in before). Edited to add....James second post reads 'I don't think it's fair to say people living in areas that were quiet when they moved there, and if pre Tessa Jowell licensing 2003 law it wasnt legally possible to have late night bars and pub let alone 24/7 alcolhol sale, should move if they're unhappy rather than objecting.' Now if that isn't connecting 24/7 sale of alcohol to the present debate then I really am the fool that James takes us all for..... -
Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
DJKillaQueen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
My view exactly Betsy. Had James written instead 'The Coop has applied to extend it current alcohol license by one hour and apply for a new one to enable it to open for the sale of other goods 24/7' then it would read very differently. And had he written that, the following fours pages dedicated mainly to how bad the idea of 24/7 sale of alcohol might not have continued. At no point did James post again to correct those comments. Sue is the person that has pointed out the disproportion in the discussion (and rightly so). -
Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
DJKillaQueen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They are only applying to extend the alcohol part by one hour from a 7am start to a 6am start....hardly any difference at all. Not quite the insinuation of extended hours into the night that has been inferred. The main part of the variation is for late night refreshment. But can't really frighten a local populous with the night time sale of tea and coffee can we. I suppose Alan that you would say James pre-Christmas inferrment that an application for change of use of a premise would probably lead to another chain supermarket is also in our imagination. James has a history of misrepresenting facts to seek support for his own agenda. There's more than enough evidence of that on EDF alone. -
Lordship lane Co-op wants to open 23/7
DJKillaQueen replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oh dear.....only James Barber would publish the details of a variation of licence application and not read them properly. Or am I being too kind in not assuming he's up to his old tricks of misrepresenting the detail of an application? Four pages later and James still hasn't acknowledged his error. Meanwhile, the licensing committee may just be wondering why they are receiving objections to the extension of an alcohol licence that hasn't been applied for! -

If you set targets, you help rapists. Discuss.
DJKillaQueen replied to legalbeagle's topic in The Lounge
Also target setting has become the norm for measuring performance, but doesn't take into account the complexity of the things it's often measuring. So easy solutions (or quick fixes) take priority over more complex ones. It's as true for the Police as it is for the Health Service as it is for back to work agencies for the long term unemployed. Resources will be concentrated on the quick turnaround to get the figures up.....at the expense often of those who need most help. Asking vivtims of any crime to retract statements is just plain wrong. -
Parking in front of driveway - no dropped curb
DJKillaQueen replied to sfmrs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Why are you targetting my comment? But seeing as you ask KK I do think that owning a property does not give you ownership of the highway outside it. It's been stated how a dropped kerb differs from an non dropped kerb as the law stands (not to mention the potential damage to the kerb if not altered). Personally I wouldn't block someone in (that would be asking for conflict) but would technically defend the right of someone to use the highway space if they need too. In other words, if you don't want to get blocked in, pay up the required fee and go through the due process to get a dropped kerb. -
I kind of like the flame thrower too. Favourite tool I own.... Tool I had the chance to try out (but declined) a week ago at a certain 'ladies' Party............ :D

Incident at Sainsburys cash machines
DJKillaQueen replied to Jimmyv's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They have all kinds of methods for getting pin numbers (including card readers). Just simply following the target at the checkout is a great way to get the pin (the keypads at the checkouts are so badly designed). Cameras stuck to or zoomed in on the machine are another one, which is why you should always cover your hand when dialing in the pin and don't turn around for anyone until you are finished at the machine. -

Parking in front of driveway - no dropped curb
DJKillaQueen replied to sfmrs's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think if someone turns their front garden into parking space but doesn't pay for the required amendments to be made to the public highway to access that space as such, then people are perfectly free to park there. Not really discourteous imo because the purchase of a property is not also the purchase of the public highway immediately outside it (unless indicated). -
Teenager tried to steal my bike
DJKillaQueen replied to lbsmith73's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Half the problem is that even if caught there is no real punishment for them. And because of that, older criminals/ fences use minors to do the crime for them. Tagging for a couple of months is about as serious as it gets for minors. -
Cyclists BEWARE - Sainsbury's Dulwich
DJKillaQueen replied to AndrewFFF's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The security guards most of the time are doing nothing. The one that stands behind the little desk just off the entrance is usually not even looking at shoppers and only comes to life if the alarm goes off when someone walks through it, so yes I do think they have time to do more 'security' type work. I think you make a fair point edw, but customer relations are an important part of business aren't they? Or are some businesses just so big that it doesn't matter? Either way Sainsburrys can more than afford to add to existing CCTV, and are more than capable of making it available to Police if required. -
Cyclists BEWARE - Sainsbury's Dulwich
DJKillaQueen replied to AndrewFFF's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think people are being a little harsh. Yes the OP should have locked both wheels. Yes it is good advice to use gold standard locks. But it would also cost Sainsburrys nothing to perhaps position their security desk nearer to the entrance or improve CCTV coverage - some would see that as good customer relations, esp in light of the number of thefts and attempted thefts that occur from time to time in that car park. The OP has has a rubbish enough day losing his cycle wheel as it is, without added harshness from us lot on this forum. -
Yeah but it's a tenuous comparison. Priests having sexual activity with underaged girls would be seen as what? I do see your point though. A church can not have an anti- homosexual stance and then do nothing about peadophilia and child abuse within it's ranks, and then expect to be seen as a moral authority. And it also gives the followers of that church a problem too for it is they who will bear the day to day brunt of the criticism. The pope has a walled vatican filled with opulence to protect him.

Bible preaching people coming to your door?
DJKillaQueen replied to ukdealguide's topic in The Lounge
Jehovahs witnesses no longer come to my door after I tried having a discussion with them about creationism vs evolution. They couldn't cope with the onslaught of scientific logic I challenged them with. So my advice is to welcome discussion with them, and then give them an intellectual headache. They'll never be back! :D -
Rucksack & wallet stolen at Sainsburys - take care
DJKillaQueen replied to lagoa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If does make a mockery of Sainsburrys security when a bicycle wheel can be stolen from right outside the door. Obviously the security staff are there to stop shoplifting but it might be worth asking sainsburrys if the security desk which at present is positioned in store could be moved to the doors, where the exterior could be more easily monitored too. -
Perhaps not a good idea to compare homosexuality to peadophilia. The two are completely different things. But yes, the inaction over peadophile priests is unforgiveable and completely discredits the catholic church imo.

Last nighr was terrible.....hammered and down to ten men too. Jackett made two subs at half time (when Millwall had got themsleves back into the game in the first half) and then we conceeded two in no time at the restart. Rubbish.

Goodbye Marvel, hello Cat - a feminist comic book...
DJKillaQueen replied to Huguenot's topic in The Lounge
Don't even have to go to France H. Look up Carol Bennett and her company knockabout comics here in the UK. Been independently publishing comics for decades including work by female artists that challenges the stereotypes of the more mainstream industry.
