That's exactly what I'm suggesting Neilson....just as a temporaray measure. It's crazy that all right turning traffic is being forced through these juctions during these works. And the closure of those through routes some years ago is what increased the use of this junction to near breaking point (at peak times) anyway (not saying that should change tho).

Renata, I have just seen a P12 bus drive down the wrong side of the road along Nunhead Lane (for 50 metres) to jump the traffic queue and turn right into Peckham Rye. This can not go on. Someone is going to get hurt or worse killed (is this also how the above mentioned scooter ended up wrapped around a traffic light?). I have noted the number plate and will report it to the bus company. Meanwhile there is no work going on at the junction of ED Road and Peckham Rye. It needs enforcement cameras (easy to arrange mobile ones) and closed off through routes such as waveney av and the no right turn in CP Road need to be temporarily removed to lessen the traffic flow through the junctions.

Tbf you don't know if that scooter accident was the result of the road works or just bad driving. That junction (where the scooter crashed) has no work happening on it yet so not helpful to make assumptions. But I do agree regarding the jams at the other one. Renata...would it not be possible to open up one of the no through roads so that vehicles don't have to go to the junction to turn right during the works, or even just allow cars to turn right onto Crystal Palace Road from ED Road. I do think a diversion for those vehicles would help the situation....whereas at present, there are cars waiting to go ahead behind vehicles waiting to turn right and that is causing some drivers to overtake on the other side of the road (which is extremely dangerous).

And there is no species more dirty, wasteful, destructive and noisy than mankind.

It would be great to get this back into use.

Lol Mac. I had no idea rats could grow so big and probably if seeing one would have assumed it to be a large vole or something else. I do think that rats and mice have had a raw deal PR wise though.

Great post Burbage.

Peckham Rye...should I move there?!

Something easily dismissed by producing a ward map. Really, the petty snobery of some never ceases to wonder..... -
Westminster are out of their minds to do this. There are many people who are overweight because they have too poor mobility to exercise. That poor mobility being the result of painfully crippling conditions like Arthritis for example. Personally I think taking away anyone's benefit for anything but a legal reason is asking for trouble. You can not leave people with nothing to buy food, heating and shelter with (which is the reality of removing or suspending a benefit). People on benefits very quickly get into serious trouble when they don't receive any money, not only financially but from a mental health perspective too. Some will even turn to crime out of desperation. And yes, if Westminster want to penalise the overweight poor, maybe they can tax the affluent according to weight as well! All the time now we hear comments (including from Cameron himself) about the deserving poor vs the underserving poor. Well any fool knows there is equally deserving and undeserving affluence too. I really do wish attention would shift away from misleading the public about welfare (only a fraction of welfare benefit spent is on the unemployed for example) and back to the things that really will get Britain moving again. Investment in those who want to set up home grown businesses or self employ is what the government should be doing, because those are the people that in turn will employ other people. We need to make it possible for people to get into work by making sure the country is creating jobs, instead of making it nigh on impossible for the unemployed to get out of the poverty gutter, whilst we bash them a bit more.

Peckham Rye...should I move there?!
DJKillaQueen replied to j5nn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Both Peckham and ED have their good points and their bad.......I don't think there's any merit is one claiming to be better than the other. So that leaves things like vibe and community etc. In my experience of living on Peckham Rye for more than two decades, I've seen Peckham come out of bad times to become a friendly and happy place to live. ED has changed over that time too - what some would call gentrification. It has a different vibe and at the end of the day it's horses for courses. Most people feel most comfortable where they fit in. -

The Clock House is undergoing a big refurb. The toilets at the back will be moved to an upstairs (that doesn't exist as yet) and an open kitchen is going to be created at the back turning it into a far more serious dining/ gastro pub. So it is a serious refurb. Time will tell if it pays off (competition is pretty stiff already for eating out locally). My poker night moved to the Herne as a result (but it's a move that was for the better). Helen I had the same email and printed the same said vouchers.....but it's a promotion that youngs run several times a year so there'll be other opportunities to take it up.

LOL Jeremy. Struggling to figure out who the lone celebrity is though ;)

I will hold my hand up and admit to watching Aquarius! In fact I think all celeb BB viewers should come out and be proud :D Thoughts so far? They are all bonkers as usual. They must have really slashed the budget this year if Spidey are the best they can do from over the pond?

Well I too am shocked by the eight week schedule.......I'm expecting whole days to go by where no work takes place on these two junctions from that schedule and that will just not be good enough Renata. But I'm happy to see both junctions utilise the SCOOT technology on offer. This should mean flexible phasing according to traffic weight, although in peak hours it probably won't make any difference. An overused junction will still be overused without any alternate route on offer. And I agree PR regarding the lack of filter light at the other junction.

Local Skills Swop Scheme?
DJKillaQueen replied to ed neighbour's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I think it's a great idea too. -
I 'snipe' manually myself too and can't see any issue. It's an auction with a finite end time and any bidding right up to that end time is valid, even if it is submitted with 1 second to go.

Dulwich Hospital Wasteland - New ED Carpark?
DJKillaQueen replied to Gimme's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
With almost a million people in full time work needing HB because average private sector rents are higher than min wages can afford I would say that yes, there is a need for social housing. Every piece of data supports that.
