  1. No way did Peckham Library have 500 tickets. I was there and they said a couple of hundred. They ran out when I was six from the front. Nunhead library had about 40.
  2. Debates about chain stores and rents aside.....isn't what's happening on LL just the same as what happens on any street of independents/ chains competing for a finite amount of disposable income? Some businesses thrive, and others don't. Obviously, massive rent increases are going to drive some businesses to the wall, and that's very sad. Decline for me would be signalled when recently vacated retail units can no longer be filled. There are thousands of former shopping streets like that across the country. LL isn't even remotely like that at present.
  3. Favourite score 'Inception' or just about anything by Hans Zimmer. Like the score from 'Dances With Wolves' too. Favourite soundtracks, Morvern Caller Boogie Nights The Insider Thelma and Louise
  4. I agree that Wiggins will probably get it, but we are spoilt for choice. I honestly can't decide who should get it.
  5. Is it possible that someone is targetting you? To have tyres slashed and locks glued in the span of a week seems extremely unlucky. Lots of people park outside tesco every day without incident. To me...it seems likely to be the work or more than a random vandle. Vandles don't tend to glue locks, they tend to scratch paintwork or pull mirrors off. It makes no sense to me.....but then I could be completely wrong.
  6. Documents as they become available are published on the Southwark website? http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200110/council_budgets_and_spending/2478/budget_proposals_for_201213/1
  7. They're pretty cool!

That's because certain TV shows have all persons appearing sign clearance (effectively permission to use the material and a waiver to any copyright) forms before broadcast. It protects them from being sued.
  9. I love that song. It's my fav S&G song.
  10. lol.....indeed ;) Never tried Peasant personally....are peasants best cooked crispy on the outside?
  11. Good point BJL re: the Royal Family and being awestruck. I'm with *bob* too.....and with londonmix as well. Suicide is a complex issue, like LM I too have a good understanding of depression and related issues. Unfortunately the level of general understanding in society is poor and there are many things that can exacerbate the feelings of a severely depressed person just on a day to day level. It's very easy when someone tragically takes their life to look for a single determining trigger, but the reality is that there are many triggers, underpinned by the depressive illness itself. I am inclined to ask more about the friends, family and colleagues around her on a day to day basis. And if she felt that she couldn't seek help or confide in anyone then we should be asking why. Underneath that is a whole debate to be had about the difficulties and stigma of coping with mental health issues in this country.
  12. It's probably moisture across a couple of points on the speakers and headphone circuit. Leaving it to dry out properly should solve the problem.
  13. There's a discussion on this topic in the drawing room.
  14. I think you are being unreasonable MP. You know nothing about these two DJs on a personal level. The shock and remorse they are showing is genuine. Compare that to the behaviour of Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand when they made a prank call that backfired. As they said in their public statement, they expected to be hung up on pretty sharpish, and given no precedent to the thousands of prank calls radio stations have made day in and day out over the years, thought nothing beyond entertainment value in making it. If they thought for one moment that a tragic outcome was a possibility, they would never have made it.

Michael Palaeologus Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > "The DJs were devastated", actually "Gutted" was > the elegant phrase that they used. > > Of course they are gutted, their career is at an > end and they have to answer questions about their > conduct. Gutting indeed. That's a very cynical repsonse to what seemed to me genuine distress from the DJs.
  16. "whenever anyone committed suicide an investigation would need to be launched and anyone who may be deemed to have made that person unhappy in anyway should be arrested. Do you hear how insane that sounds!" Except we know that young people have committed suicide after prolonged episodes of bullying for example, so yes, sometimes the actions of others are huge contributors to the mental wellbeing of individuals. I saw the DJ's in question on the news today, and they are devastated. They don't need to be dragged over hot coals and thrown in jail too. And I agree with those on who think it's just an unfortunate tragedy. I also agree that the only issue if there is any, is how a hoax caller managed to get through to anyone able to divulge information about a royal patient. Any patient would be bad enough but the wife of a future king would you'd think, be under extra protection.
  17. And that pressure then translates into taxi drivers trying to recruit their customers. Hmmmm.......maybe the taxi company itself could have a view on this and tell drivers to cease trying to sell this scheme to customers. Of course, why would a company selling ad banner space need investment? Either it's a profitable business, or it isn't.
  18. Then is the scheme that's a scam, not the taxi drivers that have fallen for it (which is the thrust of the OP's post). I too thought Ponzi/ Pyramid schemes had been curtailed.
  19. Yeah I'm thinking the same, maybe there is commission on offer. Otherwise what evidence is there of a scam? None whatsoever. In fact, a simple google search tells you all about 'Banner Brokers'...........seems like a bona fide investment opportunity.
  20. It's the DAH DAH that gives it away and that riff with the DAH DAH at the end is so famous.....
  21. Private parties (with disco) produce higher bar revenue than gigs and shows. So I can kind of understand the EDT's thinking. Why risk having to turn down higher spend bookings because of pre-booked lower spend ones, especially if the EDT is not short of business. I don't know what the EDT's profit margins are but when you factor in staffing and cleaning and other things required to enable use of that room, it makes sense to require a certain level of revenue to make it worth their while. There are similarly other venues that will be only too happy with the extra revenue (whether high or low) that any booked event can bring.
  22. That's it!
  23. oooh....I know the tune you mean.....but can't think of the band. We need a rock specialist.
  24. There is no doubt that for anyone to commit suicide, there will be an underlying case of severe depresssion. And many people who suffer from depression work very hard to hide it (with good reason). We don't know what other things were going on in this woman's life, and whether she was isolated with her feelings, or receiving help. At worst the hoax call I think would have been the final straw in an ongoing sequence of distress. And I'm sure the DJs are feeling just as distressed by the tragic outcome.
  25. lol it's true. I had no idea my slight misread had a major translation shift.... :D
