  1. "Two Little Boys" was one of my pet aversions, particularly the Xmas when it was ubiquitous on the radio and TV. One of the best spin-offs of the recent fall from grace of Rolf Harris is that we won't have to hear that bloody record again!
  2. Sorry, slarti. I should have thanked you as well. Looking on the positive side, maybe the decision makers at Southwark will think again, once they have seen the strength of opposition to the right hand turn ban proposal.
  3. In view of what slarti b says, the more people who attend the 28 Jan meeting and speak the better.
  4. I wouldn't ask if I were you, AM. It might upset those of a nervous disposition.
  5. James, if the Cabinet Councillor does not follow the Community Council recommendation, is he/she required to give reasons for failing to follow the recommendation? This would be analogous to a Planning Committee that refuses planning permission against officer advice giving full reasons for its decision. Surely transparency is paramount in such cases. Will the report that is going to the Community Committee be made available at or before 28 January and will it be available on line?
  6. This is the latest Facebook item re the Picturehouse: https://www.facebook.com/EastDulwichPH/photos/ms.c.eJw9zskRxEAIA8CMtgBxDPkn5jWM~;OwSh1y8WqQTbgr7~_VgNIqc6aayDzpk32mLyg8~_dFe5N1~_Z6DR1X0dj5L4~_5L~;yPnBzn2uvNpf36P~;7eC~;YPnXljn9r~_YN~;y2U~;~_r92HPRWYNss~-.bps.a.404789986342143.1073741833.315005585320584/404790096342132/?type=1&theater
  7. Of course he will. It's the politicians who make the final decisions - or at least I hope that they do because they're accountable for the actions taken by the Council. BTW which body will be making the final decision on this scheme? Presumably something as important as this is at least going to a Committee. If not, why not?
  8. If this is true and Chris Mascord is really taking it upon himself to ignore legitimate responses to the consultation, then it's another ground for potential maladministration. James, are you aware of this? If so, I'd be grateful if you could do something about it. Thanks.
  9. Jeremy, can't you "Unlike" Russell Brand on Facebook? Terrible word "unlike" - however totally appropriate for Russell Brand, one of the most annoying people in public life.
  10. I will repeat two points that I have in essence already made, in the hope that one or both of these points might concentrate the minds of people who are opposed to the no right turn proposal and indeed might change the minds of some people who are currently in favour of the no right turn proposal: 1. The lights at the junction of Townley Rd and EDG should be rephased so that traffic would emerge from Townley into EDG while the traffic coming from Greendale would be held at red; the traffic from Townley would then be held at red while the traffic from Greendale could then emerge into EDG (the green light phase should be shorter because there is normally less traffic coming from Greendale). This would surely overcome the potential problem for cyclists at the junction. 2. If it looks as if the Council in due course will be going ahead and approving the proposal that included the no right turn ban without carrying out further necessary studies on the implications of the ban and without releasing relevant background documents that have been requested, this would potentially constitute maladministration, which could be reported to the Council's Monitoring Officer. This could have the effect of stopping in its tracks the admin process leading to the final approval of the proposals until the procedural irregularities have been overcome.
  11. So, wulfhund, when the ED Mums in their 4x4s can no longer turn right and instead speed through nearby roads trying desperately to get to where they want to be as fast as they used to and endangering and scaring the wits out of pedestrian and cyclists (like you), presumably this won't worry you. Don't rely on the 4x4 mums (and dads) changing their travelling habits. 4x4 drivers can be very self-centred when they put their interests above everyone else's - but so can some cyclists.
  12. How about doing something more subtle, such as walking in with no clothes on at all. They'll certainly remember you.
  13. Hi, James. What I said was if the Council went ahead and approved the proposal (i.e. in the future) including the no right turn ban without carrying out a further study on the implications of the ban, this would potentially constitute maladministration. I for one am therefore keeping an eye on the situation and if there is potential administration in the future would be minded to approach the Monitoring Officer. I say this as a former Monitoring Officer who once had to write a Monitoring Officer's report which was considered by the whole Council (not Southwark incidentally).
  14. Actually, it was American English but it now appears to have become English English, like so many phrases in recent years. That doesn't mean that we have to like it.
  15. James, perhaps you could comment on one of my most recent posts, which I reproduce below: "I reckon that if the Council went ahead and approved the proposal including the no right turn ban without carrying out a further study on the implications of this ban, this would potentially constitute maladministration (if nothing else). Perhaps James Barber could make this point to the Council's Monitoring Officer, who is or used to be Doreen Forrester-Brown. If James doesn't do this, then someone else should. Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, the Monitoring Officer is required to report to Council Members on any issues about the Council's legal powers, possible maladministration, impropriety and probity."
  16. "The result of the election is too close to be predicted".
  17. I'm normally a fair minded and liberal person. However, hanging's too good for people who allow their dogs to crap all over the pavement.
  18. Thanks again, slarti b. Whoever Mr Mascord works for, the comments that I made above re maladministration and the Monitoring Officer would still apply since the final decision on the proposals would be made in the name of the Council. Indeed, the news regarding Mr Mascord's status strengthens the maladministration argument since the process appears to involve a potential conflict of interest.
  19. How about "This election is too close to call"? A US election - yes. But not a UK election, although political commentators in this country are now using the sentence.
  20. Thanks for providing this information, Slarti b. I reckon that if the Council went ahead and approved the proposal including the no right turn ban without carrying out a further study on the implications of this ban, this would potentially constitute maladministration (if nothing else). Perhaps James Barber could make this point to the Council's Monitoring Officer, who is or used to be Doreen Forrester-Brown. If James doesn't do this, then someone else should. Under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989, the Monitoring Officer is required to report to Council Members on any issues about the Council's legal powers, possible maladministration, impropriety and probity.
  21. Use of "train station" instead of "railway station" - yet another Americanisation.
  22. I also agree about the unsatisfactory 500 character limit. Nevertheless, I think that I was able succinctly to express my opposition to the no right turn aspect of the proposals and to suggest that a rephasing of the lights at the junction would do the trick.
  23. Hi James. I don't know whether anyone else has mentioned this, but the rubbish bin at the Heber Road bus stop (direction of The Plough) has also disappeared.
  24. People who use the phrase "What's not to like?"
