  1. Yes, first mate. I am a very liberal and fair minded person. But the stocks punishment would serve as a deterrent since they would be much less likely to do it again. Of course, if they were executed, in public or private, they certainly wouldn't do it again.
  2. Sympathetic as I am to the idea of the LLW, why are people always having a go at the Picturehouse chain, when so few (if any) employers in ED pay it? The hippy dippy flower children who run Sainsbury's and Iceland? Or the caring sharing hipsters in charge of most of the trendy little shops in LL and Northcross Road? And if you boycott Picturehouse, you might as well boycott every cinema chain since I'm pretty sure none of them pay the LLW. So you won't be able to go to the cinema at all, and if you want to see any films you will have to buy DVDs from the likes of Amazon, who I am quite sure are much more exemplary employers (not). In any case, hasn't the subject of Picturehouse and the LLW been flogged to death for several months? Shouldn't we be glad that we will soon have a cinema in LL, with all its imperfections?
  3. Hi, James. There is new dog poo in Beauval Road most days on the stretch between Townley and Woodwarde Roads (Lordship Lane side). There was a particularly large dollop between about 25 Beauval and Milo Road junction which happily seems to have reduced in size - probably trodden on by numerous pedestrians. I am sure that the only real way of stopping this is to reintroduce the stocks or some similar punishment (irony alert).
  4. Easy D? Like the Big Easy? Give me strength! I bloody well hope that ED doesn't get flooded like New Orleans did.
  5. James, there is also a helluva lot of dog poo in Beauval Road these days. Either we have a new particularly incontinent dog in the area or the general problem is getting worse. Perhaps something could be done about this as well.
  6. I've heard that a massive tower block the size of the Shard is going to be built on Goose Green. Or maybe I dreamt it.
  7. At least you apologised, e-dealer!
  8. People so intent on looking at their bloody phones when walking, they don't look where they are going and blame you when they crash into you - cos it's your fault, of course.
  9. The trouble is that the fewer young people who vote (partly as a result of Brand's rantings) and the more older people vote, Governments will feel that they need to pander far more to older voters and keep on giving various benefits to old gits like me. That can be seen quite clearly in the policies of Osborne who is desperately trying to persuade people like me to vote for him. But sorry George, I won't.
  10. Russell Brand. The man who tells young people not to vote but who himself wouldn't be affected by the collapse of the NHS and the rest of the welfare state because he's loaded. I really despise him.
  11. What kind of shop/restaurant/massage parlour etc is it going to be?
  12. Second hand cats? Isn't that a Barbra Streisand song from "Funny Girl"?
  13. Tattoo parlour? That would fit in with the LL zeitgeist.
  14. So Rye Lane, Peckham is a more desirable shopping destination than LL, is it? 50 years ago maybe, but this is 2014.
  15. Whatever one thinks of Cath Kidson and the desirability or otherwise of the gentrification of LL, how anyone could describe LL as "a relatively dead high street" is beyond me.
  16. People with large handbags or backpacks on their shoulders, who bash into me on trains, buses and in the street without looking where they are going.
  17. Yellow always put me in a good mood and there's a lot of it in our house. It must work on my serotonin levels. The more yellow, the better.
  18. Thanks for this, DR. So how the hell could Southwark grant planning permission for such an massive overdevelopment in a conservation area? Surely it would run counter to any planning guidance, national or local authority.
  19. Quite apart from aesthetic and traffic generation considerations, perhaps someone could explain to me how they could get 14 dwellings on the site, when supposedly many of them would be so called luxury dwellings.
  20. Et un joyeux soixante-neuf pour vous aussi.
  21. At least nobody has compared the owners of Caffe Nero to the Nazis. Not yet anyway, so Godwin's Law hasn't been invoked on this thread so far.
  22. A cheese shop that sells no cheese whatsoever.
  23. The ubiquitous "Oh, bless!". I feel like replying "I haven't sneezed!".
  24. Talking of U2, Bono is one of the biggest hypocrites around. He chides governments for not spending more on relief of poverty, while he and his chums avoid tax on a big scale. Bono, where do you think that governments get their money from so that they can spend more on poverty relief? From taxation, that's where.
