I heard that Iceland were looking at the same site. I'm still missing those Deep Pan Double Cheese Burger Pizzas.

Straight croissants? Undoubtedly a first world problem. In any case nowhere as nourishing as an Iceland Deep Pan Double Cheeseburger Pizza - a bargain for only ?1.00.

Southern rail co-owner Go-Ahead's profits up by nearly 27% - which illustrates perfectly the point that I made in my post yesterday namely: "If it's up to Southern Trains to maintain the trains more effectively, then shouldn't they do so without more Government money instead of shelling out the money that they save by not carrying out adequate maintenance to their shareholders and senior executives?" -

If it's up to Southern Trains to maintain the trains more effectively, then shouldn't they do so without more Government money instead of shelling out the money that they save by not carrying out adequate maintenance to their shareholders and senior executives? If it's NOT up to them to do this, then there's something badly wrong with the current form of rail privatisation. I suppose that we are lucky that Chris Grayling is the MP for Epsom and is thus constantly confronted with the Southern Trains chaos as a constituency MP. -

Southern Railway: ?20m fund unveiled to "improve" services. Wonder how much difference this will make. As the RMT General Secretary says "If there's money to prop up this private outfit why isn't there cash available to make sure that the guards and safety are protected on their trains?" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-37245163 -
There are at least two other threads on EDF dealing with the new M&S. Why another one? In any case, the above arguments have been debated in adfinitum (as I once heard someone say).
-
Louisa, is that a promise?
-
I was particularly fond of Iceland's Deep Pan Double Cheeseburger Pizzas and their frozen ham sandwiches. I bet that M&S won't be selling anything as healthy in their new store.
-
My nomination for hyperbole of the week. From the way that Louisa praises Iceland, you would have thought that it was a workers' co-operative loved by people with flowers in their hair sitting on beanbags and singing "Kumbaya".
-
It's quite simple. If you don't like M&S, then exercise your right not to go there. If you do like them, then go there. Why all the endless debate? If we all liked the same things, life would be boring.

Denmark Hill station: Beyond a joke
Zebedee Tring replied to LouiseC's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Here we go again. There is no ED thread complete without a bit of class war. Denmark Hill Station is a problem, whether you're working class, lower middle class, upper middle class or upper class. -

I thought that Thameslink and Southern were part of the same group (and indeed same franchise). So PR is really managed by the same group as DH. -
Pop 9770, it's just as patronising to pick up someone on a grammatical error. If you can't see that, then there's nothing further that I can say.
-
By all means challenge Dulwich Fox on what he says if you don't agree with him. But please don't criticise him - or indeed anyone else - for their spelling. That's just patronising.

The Overground doesn't go to Canary Wharf. You can change at any station as far as Dalston Junction. -

Is the Central Line automated? There's certainly more than one line in each direction - there's the Hainault loop and branches to Epping, Ealing and West Ruislip. The Jubilee Line has only one line in each direction but the DLR is far more complicated. -

Well, if this thread continues, then at least posts should be about M&S and not house prices. After all the thread is actually entitled "M&S".
-
What have house prices in 1975 and 2015 got to do with the opening of the new ED M&S? If people want to talk about comparative house prices, they should start a new thread.

Lowlander, have I misunderstood you? Are you saying that the old timetable is being restored in place of the new heavily pruned (and disastrous) timetable? -

Yes, the top priority is for the service to be run competently. Like the East Coast mainline when for a few years it reverted to the public sector and provided revenue for the Government rather than dividends for shareholders. Though there are examples of competent private sector running such as Chiltern Railways. What gets me is the utter complacency of the Minister supposedly in charge of the railways. I hope that she will now get more pressure from higher up in the government to sort things out. -

The "Today" programme on Radio 4 had an interview with a woman who sounded as if she was a spokeswoman for Southern Rail. But no, it was Claire Perry, the Rail Minister, who vigorously defended the incompetent rail company and showed little concern for people who are actually losing their jobs because they are persistently late for work as a result of very numerous train cancellations. The sooner that the railways are nationalised the better. But there's little chance of that under a Tory Government that will probably run the country for years -
Is it really the old Iceland building that is being described as a "lovely old building"? If this very undistinguished 60s style building was a "lovely old building" then the Elephant & Castle shopping centre is a "lovely old shopping centre".

Interesting post, flyer. As far as I can remember, there is nothing in the legislation relating to elections that deals with misleading statements during the campaign; misleading representations/statements were more the province of the Trade Descriptions Act and the like. However, I may be wrong about this ... and indeed I hope that I am wrong. Someone should get a counsel's opinion on this - indeed someone may be doing this already.

Voting - Low Turnout in SE22 apparently

I'm in the same age bracket; however virtually everyone I know in that age bracket voted to remain.
