1st August - Whinge Free Day in the Family Room?
Ruth_Baldock replied to ladywotlunches's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hear hear! I think often threads start as a bit of a discussion but it all gets very personal very quickly- there are certain "hot" topics that whenever discussed, my heart sinks because I know exactly how it's all going to end up. Parenting is bloody hard. Let's be nice. Etc. -
I know the clip you mean - it's done up and done up tight! Argh, damn my weird posture and body! SB: thanks for the offer! I'm going to have a good look at the ergo tomorrow and see if I can do a bit of problem solving. If I still can't work out what I'm doing wrong (ergo wise, not parenting wise, that's another thread...) then I'd love to borrow it! Lex loves being worn, which ia fine but not great when all you want is a shower. Ha!
-
I've been using the ergo with newborn insert for q few days now but have run into a bit of a pickle. Whenever I have it on, although all the straps are as tight as they'll go, the straps still gape and slide down my shoulders. What am I doing wrong?! Answers on a postcard please... Or in this thread (life when Husband goes back to work depends on the Ergo, am crap With my moby wrap and small small baby.
-
"I love my babies, why would I want to push them away from me?" good point made by Away We Go but, babies are heavy! And wriggly! And sometimes they smell! Thankgod for the pram! I mean, I wore Lex a lot yesterday in the ergo and I had baby sick all down my top when I took her out. I am NOT some kind of animal! (all tongue in cheek obvs, I didn't think much of the blog but think that communication really is the key and that's possible in the buggy/in the car/ or whilst babywearing. So ner)

What it's like to not sleep at night...
Ruth_Baldock replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thought you'd like this, Saffron! Actually, for a 5 day old, Lex isn't too bad! Cosleeping obviously, so we'll see how things pan out down the line when I try to get her into her cot (which ia side carred to our bed ATM). H m. -

This made me smile...(cute co-sleeping cartoon)
Ruth_Baldock replied to snowboarder's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Back to cosleeping here too. Little Lex sleeps between me and Mr B and it's a damn sight better than getting her to settle in her cot!!!!! She's a side sleeping baba and I feel safer knowing I can feel her whenever. Also because she's breastfeedinf every 45 or so (ouch) I'm getting more sleep this way. Cheeky S most unimpressed though... -
Otta, our lives are running parallel! I was in the same position on Monday; don't worry, everyone is lovely there. Excellent surgical team and all. Thinking of you all, they've probably made a start by now :)

Not a discussion/ debate, just an announcement...
Ruth_Baldock replied to Ruth_Baldock's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks everyone! I was discharged from Kings yesterday, 26hrs after the op! Impressed. The PN ward and staff were much better than last time, I had such a positive experiences all round. Life With two is...a challenge. Seb likes Alexa but is playing up loads, pulling things over and throwing things because he knows I cant stop him!!! Anyway here are some photos, including a few choice ones of me looking terrible... https://picasaweb.google.com/m/viewAlbum?uname=nbaldock&aid=5634042135022083457&start=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCPjhupXy6uL9swE -
Wow pickle!!! Great news, congratulations!!!!
-
Husband moaning about newborn nappies flung all over the room and the state of the flat in general (pretty good, had a deep clean just before I went into Kings) had to remind him I had a c/s less than 48hours ago. Should have stayed in the PN ward. Prat.

Not sure if i ever mentioned, but i was pregnant. Note the "was". Baby Alexa Ruby Baldock was born at 9:52am, weighing 9lb 4oz. She was 10 days late and ended up as a repeat c/s. Everyone at Kings has been great thus far, and Alexa is already obsessed with Boob and totally different to her brother, Cheeky S. Pictures to follow :)

Pregnancy/Baby Brain! Your anecdotes, please!
Ruth_Baldock replied to Mrs Nicklin's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I totally did that with Seb when he was at a+e a few weeks ago "Does he have any allergies?" "Errrr, hmm, penicillin? oh wait no that's me..." D'oh! I saw a MW at the post-dates clinic today, and she was pregnant too. Went to take some bloods, put the tourniquet on my right arm, then stabbed my left arm, sans tourniquet. Luckily, I have good veins that are practically on the outside of my body, so it didn't hurt, but she was really apologetic and mortified- thought she was going to cry, poor love. -
First shoes - confusion
Ruth_Baldock replied to sophiechristophy's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We do shoes when we're out, bare feet when we're at home. In parks that aren't terrible, we let our son go barefoot. This means he's barefoot probably about 70% of the time, actually. -
Same day here too...

My Mum left me in countless shops as a baby- she's park me out of the way, go to get a few bits fromth freezer, then walk off. I keep giving my sons dob incorrectly- always give my own. Usually at the GP, they look at me as if to say "that's a very small 26y/o..." -
Bloody hell, Saffron, I've often thought this in the past, but you're a mine of medical/pharmacutical knowledge. I'm not being sarky, honest!
-
My sister had The Pox when she was a teenager (15) and uses bio oil on the worst ones and over tome it did work. Not sure if you could use on a baby/toddler though.

I've been craving ice cubes like nobodies buisness. I've been getting through 30 a day and, yes, I do crunch them as if eating a sarnie. Today I tried to collapse the maclaren with 19mo still in and started cursing the folding mechanism. Wasn't until I bent down to inspect that I realised; take baby OUT of pushchair first. I've done this with all our prams. Another weird crush- Russell Tovey aka that werewolf bloke from Being Human. Happy for all of my idiocy and username to be used :) -

Ah yes the rocking. And shush patting. Once hugged my husbands bestfriend goodbye and accidentally tried to "burp" him whilst saying "shhh allright, it's okay..." to be fair, i was 4 days post-partum... Pickle, I've done that several times- more often when Seb was slightly older and the postman would always arrive during his 10:30am feed. Postman said after seeing his wife breastfeed all 4 of their kids, he barely noticed... -
Are your boobs hot at all? Not like that, I'm sure you're gorgeous ;) I mean hot to touh or engorged or sore? Could be the onset of mastisis- I'd call your GP asap- you don't want to mess about when it comes to that! Or it could be a cold from the baby- have you heard of passage?- apparently when adults catch vitals etc from children, it's always a lot worse as the virus mutates to be a bit more aggressive. Or so my Mum says.

It's the hormones, Lochie ;) I've got a very profound love for Dr Christian Jesson, even though he looks like a hammerhead shark. My pregnancy/baby brain trademark has to be changing my sons nappy, doing up his clothes then trying to put the new nappy over his trousers, ala Superman. Also leaving drinks/sarnies on the top of the car. Leaving the car unlocked a lot. Preheating the oven, forgetting to put dinner in... You get the gist.
