  1. GT Zum S2 hybrid commuter bike available at Halfords (which used to be a very cr*p bike shop - and in many respects still is) for 400 quid less 10% internet discount= 360. Bike has the v. respectable GT Zaskar 6061 aluminium frame and hydraulic brakes. I've had one for over a year and can highly recommend it - you wont find a better value bike anywhere - I should know I've owned approx 20 bikes down the years - the most expensive costing more than 2.5k. The great thing about this bike is that you can use it as a commuter on the road with the slick tyres provided and it is a more than capable off roader when fitted with a pair of high volume knobblys (it has rigid forks). Also cheap enough so that you dont feel guilty about leaving it out in the rain (chained to your down pipe of course). A real work horse.
  2. ..people who use "effect" when they mean "affect" and vice-versa - the effect of which enrages me and affects my mental composure ...peole who use "it's " when it's ovbious that in so doing its meaning is affected ...people who use "advice" instead of "advise" - I advise then to take advice on this people who use "license" (bare infintive of "to license") instead of "licence" (noun) people who misuse the present subjunctive - I wish I "were" licensed to lend them advice so as to make its use less prevalent and so as to effect an improvement in the use of English grammar. &c. &c.
  3. I had a colleague at a former workplace called Dick Everard. (I wonder if Dick Everard is related to Randi Bugge?)
  4. WoD asks where did it all go wrong?? A somewhat contentious subject I know but after being conquered by the Turks the ancient Greeks were supplanted by their own slave immigrants (=slavs) who along with colonising Albanians now form the majority of the population.

Why wouldnt 3 go out with 4, 9 and 16??? Because they are such squares.
  6. Inspecting the restaurant bill to find out the haughty little so-and-so has forgotten to charge for that second bottle of wine.* *see things that cause irrational rage when the haughty so and so remembers about the second bottle just as you're about to pay...
  7. So...Southark wouldn't collect the fence panels because they had been engaging in a criminal activity?? p.s. - couldn't you have just explained to Southwark that the fence panels had now "gone straight" (or perhaps this would just have compounded the problem).
  8. Quote: 'This non-sectarian technique aims for the total eradication of mental impurities and the resultant highest happiness of full liberation" The same result can be achieved simply by the consumption of a bottle or two of Buckfast Tonic Wine. Just substitue the word "faculties" for "impurities".
  9. Of course that explains it - you would never have left the house without donning your "Dulwichmum" personally emroidered red velvet Alice band would you??..
  10. DM - did you go to the park via Starbucks for one of your favourite vente lattes??
  11. Dont think so...I'm sure I would recognise that bike...

  13. Yes , France is a great place to live. Just don't remind them about the war. Best to take your own white flag in case there's an invasion while your there and there's a shortage. And don't bother going there if you are Jewish, or black, or Asian...or - well don't really bother going if you're not French.

"My friend Bernard is excercising all efforts not to miss his spring holiday in Western Switzerland despite the current problems with the ash cloud" "Bernese Oberland??" " "Yes - the current flight restrictions are expected to last at lest until the middle of this week..."

  16. Subliminal advertising by the Sp[anish tourist board?
  17. Not so Keef. Your property in all likelihood extends out to the middle of the road outside your house regardless of the existence of a cross over but becuase it is a public highway the public have rights (i.e. to park and pass) over your property. In theory you could build a basement under your property which extends out to the midddle of the road as long as you provided adequate support to the public highway above.
  18. Applespider - you cannot stop people parking on the road outside your house if there is no drop-kerb - the fact that your car is blocked in is neither here nor there. You have no rights over that piece of the public highway unless you create a cross-over. The blocking of a private access (which a cross-over creates) is in theory a private civil matter and the police are not obliged to interfere (as opposed to the blocking of a public access which in all likelihood would be a breach of the highways act and consequently a criminal matter).
