  1. I was also in the Royal Court Youth Theatre! PM sent! I loved The People Show, their weird and wonderful theatre at lots of different types of venues was always fabulous and they only recently celebrated their 40th year, and got their grant cut as a thank you.
  2. Often you can see a rainbow around the sun depending on the type of cloud and the quality of light - it's the sun shining on the crystals in the clouds making a prism like effect. Also, if you happen to find yourself in a small plane flying above clouds, and if you are in the right position to see the shadow of the plane on the cloud below you, you will see the shadow is encircled by a rainbow. Or should that be raincircle! I have a photo of one somewhere that I took from a glider and shall try and find it and post it on. Great photos folks!
  3. This is a very useful link! Thanks! I am a member of my local Ward Panel for police and safer neighbourhood team (anyone can be) and did not know about this new site, so again, thanks. My local area is average yet two months ago there were no crimes at all! And that's an SE15 Peckham area too!
  4. Yup, only posh Londoners call it MarGATE or RamsGATE as they also utter the words "How cheap are the houses and beach huts still? Amazing dahling" then buying it all sharpish so me mates kids can't afford to buy in their areas... same old same old Now, how do you pronounce Thorncombe Road? Is it coom or cum (fner fner) or com?

  6. Suthuck (th as in with not both) There was a Lido in Cliftonville near where I grew up (in Margit near Ramsgit) and that was Lye-dough, only the posh folk from Broadstairs called it Leedo. So we knew we were right.
  7. Forgot Gross Pointe Blank - it's on next week. A reason I hate old school reunions but it would be made more interesting to turn up and say you were a contract killer.
  8. I agree with Nancysmum. I had not heard of this but due to the social depravation in a place like Peckham there is going to be a lot of needy worthy causes and lots of self help groups and socially funded organisations to help with everyone and anything from kids living in homes where there are mentally ill adults, to helping kids and adults escape their drug and knife and gun culture, and so on and so forth, that most people I suspect on this forum particularly would never have any reason to hear about or come across. There simply can't be the funding for all of them can there? Dunno! I would be interested to know why Southwark Council have suddenly decided to stop this place. Maybe someone will ask a question at the next Peckham Community Council meeting. Not that that will save it, since CCs are reactionary and pretty much a talking shop. Thank you furryjumpergirl for bringing it to our attention indeed. Louisa you can be such an ar$e.
  9. It's looking gooooood. This morning looked out to just the one plant (that I had deliberately not covered in the slate chippings, so as to act as a test subject) having been done over by those pesky squirrels. Just the one! This is great. You have no idea. I have now removed that plant inside and shall see what they do next. It's fabulous. No, really.
  10. Aha yes indeed. He did not enter the stage for a good 20 mins into the play and his character (a Murdoch media type) was built up. When he enters the stage he was nearly all in shadow, moved a bit, scared the life out of everyone, and he got a standing ovation before he'd opened his mouth. Astounding. ooooooo I am so looking forward to seeing Judi de Sade!
  11. But is that "row" as in boat or "row" as in fight?
  12. I'll just leave my bicycle in the garage, they ain't using my motorcycle!
  13. I say Dull-itch but then I grew up in Margit, which is near Ramsgit.
  14. I can understand why you stopped buying TVs! Way too much complication. Very grateful for all your explanation though. Freeeview and TopUpTV drives me nuts, and Sky is out the question, Virgin Media MAYBE, but not heard anyone talk about BT Vision 'cept that nice man off the telly wot used to be in MyFamily. Sooooooooo BT Vision anybody?
  15. I thought the C4 Top 100 best films and Top 100 Actors oh oh oh and the top 100 stand ups, were pretty good. I really should start some work now and no I was not taking you seriously...!
  16. Lists remind me about the good and bad things I have seen. Good to ponder and provoke. As a result of seeing some of the films mentioned on the film list I have made a list of DVDs I want to rent. And another result of seeing some of the theatre plays people have seen is that I realise just how little money I earn being self employed which has depressed me for the day.... Top Ten Reasons to ban lists?
  17. Oooh I am impressed by your list, Marmora Man. I remember in the 80s a friend said London was divided between those who had seen David Copperfield and those who had not. I did not. Tended to spend what little money I had on seeing gigs. Another list beckons! MY list so far would be 1) Royal Court - Jonathan Pryce in all 4.5 hours of Hamlet when the Equity Minimum was ?90 a week and that, apparently, is what he got! 2) A play about the American physicist Richard Feynham at Hamsptead 2 years ago. Brilliant and funny. 3) Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead - Greenwich a few years ago. Actor playing Player King was Brilliant. 4) Being in the 2nd row of the audience at the very first preview of Romans in Britain at NT and the next day after the press night wondering what the fuss was about. 5) Anthony Hopkins in Pravda NT. 6) Sus, a little play I think at Royal Court Upstairs in 80s. Changed my teenage views about police and the state more than the very wordy and worthy and LONG piece at NT by David Hare did a few years ago! 7) Restoration by Edward Bond. Royal Court. 8) Stephen Berkoff's Metamorphosis at Mermaid theatre starring Tim Roth. 10) ANDDDDDDDD NEXT YEAR I already have tickets for Dame Judi Dench as Madame de Sade. I already know it's on the list!
  18. Tell Americans you are about 15 miles from the site. House swap. You will get the better deal. I live in a 3rd floor flat and I've had an offer to swap with a rich couple in San Diego (friends of friends) who know it will take them months to get to the Olympics on public transport (assuming that's possible) from my home in a tube free area, and know my flat is not that modernised and is very small. And they still want it. Meanwhile, their house is big. And in San Diego. And I have no car and they're letting me use their car. And my flat is 3 floors up no lift and --- they have a swimming pool. Hmmmmm!
  19. I LOVE Tony Curtis so to see him all big and fabulous up there is the deciding factor. Some Like it Hot. Having said that, ?7.50 is steep for me too. If you have corporate backing get them to back a bit more! :)
  20. OMGSimonM! Celine and Julie go Boating! How wonderful is that movie! I had completely forgotten it. Q the Wing Tipped Serpent anyone? ;)
  21. Is it OnnDyne then? Or Onn Deen?
  22. It's a Wonderful Life. My Cousin Vinny. Internal Affairs. Spinal Tap. Singin' In The Rain. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. 2001 Being There. Postcards from the Edge Sixth Sense. But that's today. Tomorrow I may have a different list!
  23. Damn Moos you're good.
  24. Just went there. It was shut. It was shut the other day when we went. Said it opens at 5 but it wasn't, so we went to lovely Nun's Head. Not giving up though!
  25. Is that pronounced "pee er" or "pee-ear" I always pronounced it the way Friern in Friern Barnet. "Free urn" Now, how dya pronounce De Crespigny?
