  1. Oooh I am impressed by your list, Marmora Man. I remember in the 80s a friend said London was divided between those who had seen David Copperfield and those who had not. I did not. Tended to spend what little money I had on seeing gigs. Another list beckons! MY list so far would be 1) Royal Court - Jonathan Pryce in all 4.5 hours of Hamlet when the Equity Minimum was ?90 a week and that, apparently, is what he got! 2) A play about the American physicist Richard Feynham at Hamsptead 2 years ago. Brilliant and funny. 3) Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead - Greenwich a few years ago. Actor playing Player King was Brilliant. 4) Being in the 2nd row of the audience at the very first preview of Romans in Britain at NT and the next day after the press night wondering what the fuss was about. 5) Anthony Hopkins in Pravda NT. 6) Sus, a little play I think at Royal Court Upstairs in 80s. Changed my teenage views about police and the state more than the very wordy and worthy and LONG piece at NT by David Hare did a few years ago! 7) Restoration by Edward Bond. Royal Court. 8) Stephen Berkoff's Metamorphosis at Mermaid theatre starring Tim Roth. 10) ANDDDDDDDD NEXT YEAR I already have tickets for Dame Judi Dench as Madame de Sade. I already know it's on the list!
  2. Tell Americans you are about 15 miles from the site. House swap. You will get the better deal. I live in a 3rd floor flat and I've had an offer to swap with a rich couple in San Diego (friends of friends) who know it will take them months to get to the Olympics on public transport (assuming that's possible) from my home in a tube free area, and know my flat is not that modernised and is very small. And they still want it. Meanwhile, their house is big. And in San Diego. And I have no car and they're letting me use their car. And my flat is 3 floors up no lift and --- they have a swimming pool. Hmmmmm!
  3. I LOVE Tony Curtis so to see him all big and fabulous up there is the deciding factor. Some Like it Hot. Having said that, ?7.50 is steep for me too. If you have corporate backing get them to back a bit more! :)
  4. OMGSimonM! Celine and Julie go Boating! How wonderful is that movie! I had completely forgotten it. Q the Wing Tipped Serpent anyone? ;)
  5. Is it OnnDyne then? Or Onn Deen?
  6. It's a Wonderful Life. My Cousin Vinny. Internal Affairs. Spinal Tap. Singin' In The Rain. Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. 2001 Being There. Postcards from the Edge Sixth Sense. But that's today. Tomorrow I may have a different list!
  7. Damn Moos you're good.
  8. Just went there. It was shut. It was shut the other day when we went. Said it opens at 5 but it wasn't, so we went to lovely Nun's Head. Not giving up though!
  9. Is that pronounced "pee er" or "pee-ear" I always pronounced it the way Friern in Friern Barnet. "Free urn" Now, how dya pronounce De Crespigny?
  10. Oh well done! This gives us all hope! Hoorah! fiskaroo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > appeal, appeal. 11. The rather nice Slate Chippings have been bought and liberally placed around replanted plants in troughs and hanging baskets. 3 floors up, the home-loving cat watches the activity on the balconies through the glass panels in the balcony door, from the safety of her bed thereby. I wish I could set a webcam going so as to record the situation.... hey wait a minute, lemme find me webcam.
  12. You really aren't taking this at all seriously, are you. ;)
  13. Wasn't Lordship Lane. It was Peckham Rye! Pahhh! :D
  14. This one's lovely - Princess Anne told it herself (she told me never to namedrop but there you are). She was visiting some hospital or hospice in Australia and she was by one old guy who was miserable in his bed and she said something like "You didn't come in here to die" and HE said "No, ma'am, I came in here yesterdie" [Aussie accent].
  15. Sidhue and Madworld, I made a mistake when I typed chips, of course, I meant chippings as you had suggested. Wasn't being funny in any sense. I'm gonna get some and will report back. Another plant got dug up and chucked out another pot yesterday. The cat's nerves can't take it, either!
  16. Errrrrrrr so who do you recommend?
  17. And/or go to one on Forest Hill Road. Lovely people. Not always a queue, often quiet around 11.00am.
  18. Has it licencing to be a club? I mean, if it is a public house it does not have the right to charge for entry under the licensing rules for pubs. I think. Again, a complaint/enquiry to Southwark Council should help. IF you can get past their CallCentreFromHell!
  19. Slate chips. Right. Great! Thanks! I'll get some from anywhere but B&Q! I have a book called How To OutWit Squirrels, which was useless for this purpose but maybe useful for people with gardens. Hey! Maybe should take it Monday to Clockhouse to Book Swap!
  20. Well it sounds interesting. Don't quite understand the hushhush nature of the meetings though. As an aside, I just heard that the building the British Humanist Association occupies in central London is, er, apparently haunted. You have to laff.
  21. Indeed we were there the other evening and there were cards on the tables advertising various clubs at the pub. I do think you should ask the council about this. They have a noise abatement number you can call any time http://www.southwark.gov.uk/YourServices/environment/NoiseProblems/ 002 7525 5777 My sympathies are with you!
  22. I love squirrels too! And I feed them in the park. In the PARK. Where they belong. Not 3 floors up my flat desecrating me sunflowers and rose bushes and all me other flowers. Any ideas? I haven't the heart to trap them either. But I am losing it. I am I am.
  23. So how do I prevent squirrels climbing up 3 floors to my balconies and ruining my flower and plant pots and troughs. Eh? Eh? My cat is TERRIFIED of squirrels. And pigeons, and all the other birds who go to my squirrel proof bird feeders. But these squirrels are causing havoc. Should I use a mousetrap? I am beginning to feel reeeeeeeeeally mean about the bastards. We've poured a little oil on the drainpipe in the hope the squirrels will slide back down but of course they just climb up the brickwork. Probably wrong thread, but as you're all thinking about pests I thought I'd ask!
  24. Read this thread with interest. You can't create atmosphere can you? Only the people who visit, can. I know decor and lighting create atmosphere but they're things that can be changed with the types of people coming. I would ask for to NOT have music. Sorry but lots of pubs and bars do music and even my beloved Clockhouse has fabulous music (lots of rock from 70s 80s and contemporary stuff too) but they do at least have the music turned down low so you can have a good conversation should you so wish. Music creates atmosphere of course too. So it's all a balancing act innit. I really wish you well with this Nico and look forward to what happens. I am a real ale drinker and also cider does me nice as well so please offer more than one type of real ale also as requested by someone else above!
