Famous People Seen in the Co-op
PeckhamRose replied to nowittyname's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Should we start a "Famous people in the Co-op seen nicking food" thread? I saw Mickey Flanagan in the Dulwich Therapy Rooms but it's not quite the same, so sorry! -
"maybe things have got so bad for people that they have to" Things have always been bad for many people. What planet have you been living on. Years ago we sent people to Australia for nicking bread. In some countries they cut folks hands off. Sorry but that was a bit of a naive statement.

I accept that the future of our 'young' people is an important issue to deal with. I hope you get a lot of input and ideas. I would, however, also argue for the future of those people who have a lot of talent and skills and life experience to offer but because they are not 'young', and assumed to be wanting to live on a reasonable wage, they are not considered employable even though they have so much (more) to offer.

Go make an appt with the very experienced and lovely and patient Stephen Butler at Dollond and Aitchison. Forgive them the state of their premises. I have been under his (and his predecessor's) care for my own (hard gas permeable) glasses for the last 28 years and highly recommend. I recall when I first used them and I would estimate it took me 6 months to really get comfy with them. I would not use soft lenses as they can absorb infections more easily. Of course you can get daily disposables if money allows. If money allowed I'd get laser treatment! best of luck.

Get some paper and a pen, and write every single thing you can remember of that day, using diaries, and receipts, and memory. Sign and date it and keep it and amend it as more memories / evidence appears. Horrid business. Best wishes.

There was a thread in here a while ago where there was a link given to a website where someone had painstakingly plotted every bomb that had fallen, on to a map so you could see which street and where. As one walks around many streets now, the 60s houses at the end of a terrace or so, that is where a bomb dropped. Haven't time to search for it now, but it was very interesting. Might be worth looking for that.

Any decent restaurants in or close to London Bridge?
PeckhamRose replied to mothercourage's topic in The Lounge
We were rather impressed with the Chinese on Tooley Street but that is closer to Tower Bridge near Bermondsey Street junction. Just sayin'! -
Thanks, but just asking for people from here who might have fave recommendations of places they have been to. :D
-
If any of you have recommendations of places we absolutely must see on our two week road trip around new England we would be very grateful to hear them! Also, reasonably priced hotels too. And to start with, any in Boston? We start and end there. Well, we start and end here obviously but are flying into and out of Boston! We are sadly unable to fund a budget to do wonderful American B&Bs so budget smaller places will be preferable. Thanks!

Have you? Go along to community councils.

Southwark council recycling and waste collection
PeckhamRose replied to Toulouse's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Email Veolia at their new recycling site on the Old Kent Road. Ian McGeough I think is the name of the man you need to aim for. If everyone told them what they need and the fact that people would have to stop recycling if they don't collect regularly enough, Veolia would have to do something about it, as they have targets to hit. -
This is a good EDF story happening. But what have the council to say for themselves for having let this happen? Maybe someone could ask question at the next Commmunity Council. Well done you lot!

Don't worry, the whole front area of the station will be pulled down and open up the entire square so it will look beautiful and clean and fabulous. But if you are worried about it NOW, email the station master and / or the council. Go get their email address from notices or staff at the station.

A point I shall raise is the fact I had to call police at 2.20 AM the other night and was put on an answerphone!!! The operator came back to me and was able to put me through to another number and to be fair the police arrived at the situation 5 mins later. Even so, that was scary. Hope some of you can come to this meeting.

Lived here nearly 30 years and it's a gem. May I also recommend AG Flowers - Wendy who works there has become a friend over the years I have been a customer and they are so helpful and friendly. Sopers don't just sell fish. They will advise on how to cook it if you ask them, and for someone like me that is so useful! Short walk to the north end of Peckham Rye Common so links to all the rest of the world. Welcome to kyoto! Oh oh oh and you also have The Best Doctors Surgery in Southwark. The Nunhead Surgery is at 58 Nunhead Grove and they retain 020 numbers, humans answering the phone, and are an independent NHS practice not owned by some American conglomeration.

So you'll qualify as a brander in advertising. What do you want to specialise in? Have a great life and travel and enjoy yourself! And when you get down here to East Dulwich I hope you will have a lovely welcome and enjoy all the green areas and architecture this area has to offer. It's surrounded by more local great areas and on it goes!

interesting Peckham characters for TV documentary
PeckhamRose replied to peckham_docs's topic in The Lounge
The film maker students at Chelsea Art School have been making series of films all based on individual businesses and characters in Peckham. We get to see these films at the Peckham Plex. Each year we see about 10 or so different films each made by a separate group of students, so after 3 years there have been thirty of so businesses and characters covered. One of my particular faves was the guy that ran the launderette but clearly did not want to be filmed in the end and couldn't make up his mind whether it would be a good advert, or he may be identified in the end! Another fave was the people who run Oz's cafe and the people who run the chrome making factory on the Old Kent Road. We have watched and learned all about the characters and the companies and people of Peckham. One omission to my mind is the very wonderful woman who runs the motorcycle shop Honda Rider Motors, but she may be included in the next year's series of films, I don't know. So, PeckhamDocs, it has and is already being done. But go for it and make more! -
Can't help you in research but I would say loads of us go there to see the fireworks 5 Nov and at New Year's and there's a great atmosphere. I always take visitors there to see the views and it's soooo much better than Primrose Hill! It's one of my favourite places in London to see London! I look forward to hearing / reading your work and thanks computedshorty for the links!

the vale pub - changes afoot
PeckhamRose replied to chrisharvey's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
... and some Belgian fruit beers now and again that aren't twice the price of other beers. (Like at EDT!) Looking forward to seeing you in there. Don't go past often but will definitely pay a visit. Will it still be primarily a sports pub?
