  1. I am a cat person. And not those fecking MEERCATS either. Anyway, back to that laptop. Can't work out if any come with Office or do I always have to pay an extra ?250 or so for it to be added on.
  2. Ha! I am also planning on fighting re the car park. And I don't have a car! This thread is good for having highlighted the snobbish holier than thou hypocrites than populate the society and needs to be eradicated out via eugenics. Sorry, I mean they need to be "educated".
  3. I would feel ashamed and feel pretty small. But I don't earn much money and can't afford those morals. And nobody dies. I'll sleep tonight. I shall never, however, ever be seen shopping at Primark. Promise.
  4. I did tell John Lewis what I was doing and gave them the opportunity to match the proven price I was buying on line. I reminded them of their Never Knowingly Undersold. They still refused. So their loss.
  5. I had no idea that their salaries was not a matter of public knowledge. I was considering applying to be a governor but the time is not right for me but in the next round I may, and may if I win election try and get this changed. I have accounts with Nationwide Building Society and just got sent voting forms, and the non exec directors salaries were published within the literature. That was scary, given four local branches have been closed down. Anyway, thanks for your time educating us all, Alex K!
  6. acm, your recommended sounds like a better version of what I now have but one still has to buy Office professional which I believe comes in at something like ?250. Yikes! I bought my current Toshiba reconditioned laptop about 8 years ago with it already loaded - for ?400 total and with bluetooth.
  7. Thinking further, I am wondering if I want the same but better (ie a faster better Toshiba laptop) because that is what I am used to, or do I need to be made aware of "excellent/better but different" (ie tablet). I suppose this could refer to many aspects of our lives: partners, environments! I hope this thread could be useful for all of us to hear opinions on different choices. I shall also go to John Lewis as mentioned above. They must realise that people go there for advice then buy on line somewhere else. I did that with my washing machine and even their on line price was a lot more expensive than where I got it from eventually. "Never Knowingly Undersold" is so not true, because I told them I was getting it cheaper elsewhere and they did not care!
  8. Yes it does look rather small. I have contact lenses prescription of +10.75! Don't make it worse!
  9. As a member of Asthma UK, I highly welcome what you are doing. I shall assume you are contacting Asthma UK for their help too. I am on their volunteer list but they also have lots of volunteers who may be able to contribute to this very important research. http://www.asthma.org.uk/index.html I would love to read the finished piece!
  10. I am so grateful for your time and references and ideas. Pink was a JOKE!!!!!!!! Because I spend a lot of time on my laptop I do want something bigger than a notebook but lighter than what I have, and I accept tablets (as someone who has to take 6 tablets a day, having one to carry round with me all the time is quite amusing...) may not be appropriate either. I am checking out acm's references and will think on. I DO, however, need bluetooth facility which my current laptop has, and I need its ability to be able to connect via my BT Internet connection, and thereafter when away from home, through BT Fon when available.
  11. As much as I despise those sorts of papers, chances are the folks who were there 10 years ago are not there now. And anyway, also chances are many people in ED don't read that paper or am I making assumptions? Either way, I don't think it will make any difference. If people did not read those papers, Murdoch et al would not create them.
  12. Grateful to everyone. Not just browsing and email, but certainly don't need it for games. I think a visit to John Lewis is on the cards. Get their thoughts, then buy cheaper on dabs and the like.
  13. Call the police Safer Neighbourhood Team (and it's this reason I hoped my earlier post would be stickied) but if you look in the LOCAL INFO tab above right, you will find the number for your area.
  14. Hi BasemCigar I hope you can add to the discussion. I also hope other folks can talk about them here so we can all share experiences and opinions.
  15. Thank you. BT Vision has iPlayer / playback on all the channels. It's why I love it! But tnanks for all the other hints. I would rather go in to a shop than look on line, actually ask a human specialist. That's why I am asking you lovely lot. But I would go ANYWHERE but PC World for this.
  16. I Do Not Know That.
  17. I was only kidding, ff-hake. :)
  18. Wander around the Isle of Dogs. Get there via either 12 to Westminster then Ferry or DLR from Lewisham. Go south of the island to the Mudchute City Farm for a cuppa and a wander around and see the llamas. It's the biggest city farm in England so I understand. Canary Wharf has great buildings, views, walks and history. You could also pop into one of the pubs along West India Quay, and go to the Docklands Museum there, or walk along the river towards the city and pop in to the Grapes, or even Prospect of Whitby. But a long walk from World's End (go down as far as Chelsea Harbour and then walk back via Lots Road and wander around Cremorne Gardens), then walk up Kings Road to Peter Jones. Perfect.
  19. Thanks maxxi, boy was that tempting! Right: In order of being asked: (But remember I am hoping for a discussion of what they are about and what they mean to people, I still don't understand why some folk are almost religious about Apple). Windows xp (but I don't care long as it's not Apple. It's like cooking with gas or electric. I'm just used to electric / Windows!) Don't care about version long as its the latest when I buy something new. My current laptop is a Toshiba but was put together by E&M as above; ie 6 month old versions of various bits all put together in one laptop at about half the price (maybe that's why they went out of business!) I think they call it 'reconditioned'? Budget - maybe ?500. Microsoft Office but willing to learn others long as all my current documents in Word and Excel can be opened read and worked on still. DVD Webcam - yes but I have one I attach for Skype so not a problem. I am with BT Internet and connect to them via HomeHub, wirelessly. I am very happy with them (Have BT Vision too, it's really good!) and can connect around the country using BT Fon. I have never bought (or needed) a dongle. Thanks acm! Would I be able to connect to BT Internet on a tablet? And which tablet? I rather like the idea of something smaller and lighter to carry around long as I can connect via BT Fon when I am not at home.
  20. Don't tell 'em, Pike.
  21. This MAY get moved to the wanted section as it is advice I am after, but rather I am asking for a discussion and opinions on what sort of devices are best for what sort of occasion. The laptop is dying. I am forced to consider buying something new and lots of fancy new fabulous tricknology has come since I bought this high end Toshiba made up laptop from E&M computers in Grays Inn Road. (Sadly, after a hundred or so years of this family run business ("E&M" stands for electric and manual!) they have had to close their business. I always relied on them for all my computer needs since the 1980s. I know. Anyhow, so the question is for this thread is, who has what. Why did you choose that? What is your ISP or connection choice. If I get a notebook or tablet can I use my BTInternet or how do I connect? Do I have to buy a dongle. I am not into games and need my future device for emails and internet explorer. I am not into Apple so don't want - nor can I afford - an iPad. (I admit to having entered competitions to WIN one, mind you!) Is a note book just a smaller laptop or does it have any other deficits to it? I suspect it is, and yet has just as much capacity as my laptop. I won't (yet) touch cloud technology. I need full Office facilities so something that that runs on. I suppose I want the same again but willing to be persuaded of something lighter and smaller but just as useful! In pink* There is so much information out there, and I read as much as I can and learn and try and keep up. But getting all your thoughts and opinions would be useful too, because you lot come without baggage and no advertising! *Just kidding.
  22. I agree about wondering about how much notice councils / governments take of people when we vote for certain things. But they're committed to getting our opinion; maybe not committed to acting on it. Thanks for your thanks though neilson99!
  23. A McTimoney Chiropractor (there are 3 at the Therapy Rooms above the Health food shop on Lordship Lane) did miracles on my back after a motorcycle accident many years ago. Now I go once every 6 months or so just for a straighten up! I am so sorry to read this sad story though, and I hope some of the answers will help. Here's information about McTimoney Chiropractic. http://www.mctimoneychiropractic.org/
  24. One the voting forms there are various sections you can vote for, for example on the Peckham Rye changes you can vote for raised zebra crossings at various points (or vote against), cycling paths, and the right turn filter lights to take you up both sides of PEckham Rye Park. On the One way system round Copleston / Heaton you can vote for two ways (or not), raised crossing areas (or not).
  25. theboond, After your bad experience and being an intelligent caring sort of person who would want to encourage things to get better, what did they say when you complained to the PALS (Patient and Liaison Service?) And please please please would everyone who ever goes to Kings consider becoming a Member of the Foundation Trust? You get to have a say in what happens and you get to go to meetings to learn about the different aspects of the hospital. I just went to one two weeks ago about the Medical Assessment Units. thebond Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've lived all round the country and over two > years ago I had call to use Kings A&E, their > diagnosis was totally incorrect and the treatment > I received after was second rate.
