  1. It would be good if this could be placed over a streetmap so we could see where we were, as it were... Really interesting to see that ridge of hills which I assume are the ones including Forest Hill, Nunhead Cemetery, Rye Hill, and alone to Kingswood Allotments hill by South Circular.

    Slutwalk

What a completely wonderful event. I wish all you sluts and slutters(male?!) a wonderful slutwalk. If I were able to be there (as a bikerslut, natch) I would.
  3. Wot, MacBeth? It's okay, I said it whilst I tossed salt over my shoulder turned round three times, got dizzy fell over got up and walked under the touched wooden ladder as the black cat crossed my path. It's all nonsense, it really is, made up by people who wanted to pretend there was some kind of power, or to tell stories to explain stuff that science had not yet got round to explaining. Bit like religion, but dafter. Like homoepathy. ;) (pulls out pin, throws, runs away!)
  4. Macbeth MacBeth MacBeth Macbeth Macbeth!
  5. Could I just ask, what's the problem? So they erect scaffolding in your garden to fix his roof which ultimately could benefit you too. Am I missing something here?

    Mugs

HAAAHAAA THIS one, which my best mate bought me. Only bring it out when the posh folks arrive though.

    Mugs

Nahh you're right, the big one for morning coffee but the posh bone china for afternoon tea.

    Mugs

Thanks DJKillaQueen! The biggest mug I have.
  9. Is anyone here a Resident? What's your experience? Just wondering.... It's either that or knitting when I am tired of doing what I do.
  10. No, our work here is done. I award myself the prize, but await transfer of cash to my account....!
  11. Dee Woffaz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > On the subject of Dolphins.... Do they have fat > birds tattooed on their tits? Brilliant.
  12. Nice point new mother - I remember years back a news item that some broom cupboard in a block of flats in South Ken had gone for thousands and was now on sale for a million. I'd still prefer my tiny flat overlooking Peckham Rye and with views of London, than a massive house in the countryside. My mate and boss has a big house in about 3 acres in the middle of the High Pennines, a long drive from Alston, the nearest town. It is soooooo beautiful. Not another building in site in 360 degrees from his house except the out houses that store the generator. Of course I LOVE biking up there and staying with him and playing with his llamas (that's what they are! not a euphemism!) but couldn't live there. He feels the same way in reverse. And that's as it should be.
  13. Beauty Place and Beauty Plus are two local Beauty 'parlours' that do their thing. They each get one another's phonecalls and bookings, as customers think they're phoning one for a booking them turn up at the other and wonder why there is no booking for them. So you want something without the word Beauty in it, for starters. You have obviously done the marketing thing to see if there is room for a third such shop in the area. It's not catchy but thinking along the lines of your company being in the business of topping up what nature has given us, and how we have Top Ups for cards, utlities, etc., how about The Nature Top Up. Now, to whom do I address my invoice for this excellent name and advice?!
  14. Who? and I loved his music!
  15. I simply just had to share. OK, it's American, but still adorable. And no, the cat does not fall in.
  16. I'm with James May on this. There should be just one law. For everything. The law is, Don't Be A Prat. It does mean that some thinking is involved, and personal responsibility has to be increased and all that soft stuff, but it makes a huge difference. When MrPR did some teaching of young teenagers he announced there was only going to be one rule. They loved him already. Then he told them what it was. And he had them. It could easily be applied to The Road. Earth to PeckhamRose, your time is up. Back on the bike!
  17. Congrats!
  18. But remember my photo of one of them eating his lunch parked on a double yellow line where there were no other cars around? Justify that anyone?
  19. Well it's a start! Well done lilolil!
  20. Leaseholders Association of Southwark Join. It's ?12 a year. You get a lot of volunteered professional help for that. Edited to add: There is a meeting of the Leaseholders Association of Southwark this coming THURSDAY 2nd June 2011 at 7.30pm at the UNWIN and FRIARY Tenants and Residents Association Hall, 33 Frensham Street, off Peckham Park Road. Come along, meet the members and committee members who act on your behalf (or will do when you join) and ask questions.
  21. Getting back to the opening post (for a laugh), Peckham Common as I said might have covered a much wider area and may not be in the area we refer to as Peckham Rye Park. I think I am right in saying that Peckham High Street is part of the original Watling Street leading from london to Dover, so there would possibly have been more inhabitants along that stretch to watch the hanging, and maybe Peckham Common was the area around the canal? I am sort of thinking in type ('aloud') but if all this were true then maybe such hangings occurred at that junction/area. But do see my previous post for ideas of how to find out for sure.
  22. Not all council estates are full of nasty bad people. There are some right villains living in 'nice respectable houses', but I get your concern. The houses look fine, so move, make friends with your neighbours and have a great life. There are a lot of good things happening in Peckham, great artists' communities, bars and fab architecture. Join The Peckham Society, go along to the Choumert Square Garden Party, make connections. Enjoy! If you need anything, remain a member of this group and post on it now and again!
  23. Well I'd have thought Mr Beesley would be your first port of call, but remember that what we now call Peckham Rye Common may have covered a much larger area at the time, if I remember correctly. Interesting question! Perhaps you could also write to The Peckham Society and have them publish the letter so someone might come back to you. Let us all know what info you get!
