  1. Well it's nice to know I got a rep as a biker, at least! I have been trying to locate a long message I left about a year ago with heaps of useful links (bikesafe.com etc) but it seems to have been wiped. To my knowledge there is no East Dulwich bikers group although there are quite a few of us on here who are indeed bikers. But we don't meet up! I am a member of TheLondonBikers and strongly suggest you join them. Look them up (remember the 'The'). They do rideouts and are linked to other useful biker groups and informative stuff like FirstAid courses for bikers (FBOS - First Bike On Scene (tho they all agree that should be 'Second Biker On Scene' since the first will possibly be the poor sod involved in the accident)). ANYWAY, for now that is all I can recommend as a bikers group. They're good folk. But to be brutally honest, I see biking as a solitary thing and prefer to ride alone! Having said that, I also tend to work weekends (all over London, on my bike; nope, not a courier!) so rideouts are not possible anyway, but a meet up with you me MrPr and other bikers on here to bomb down to Thanet or Bexhill or somewhere one weekend day that I am free would not be a nightmare! Anyhow, welcome to the forum. And I hope you have a garage. Some reports of bike thefts have been posted recently. And if it is a Southwark Council garage then yes, a 50% increase in rents! Oh - and mine's a Virago 535cc. (This thread is really useful when student sons and daughters of members want holiday work, I get 'em to clean my bike. Life's too short to clean chrome though.) Here it is at the High Pennines which is perhaps a bit too far for a day out.
  2. Back to the thread, this is such a shame, and again sadly typical of the level of service in this country. If they were working for tips they'd change their attitude!
  3. The Americans are moving out of their embassy in Grosvenor Square. A bit far from East Dulwich but a bigger place. They may have moved out already. I'm going near there today so shall report back if it's a goer and I'll check out any broken windows etc. I am also going round Mayfair later so shall do similar recce-ing for you.

  5. I have read all three pages of this thread to try and read and understand the opinions for and against and am just as confused about my opinion. The concern I have about changing from the current system is that people will not understand it and make mistakes, deliberate or not, which could have disastrous consequences. Could someone explain the difference between proportional representation and alternative voting, please?
  6. PM sent. My neighbour has a flat in Spain!
  7. Fair point, and I agree. Thank you. Also, when buying, remember they may / probably will sting you for the service charges. LAS2000 is realy good at trying to ensure the Council are held to account for what they charge.
  8. Yep yep yep. I hope to be there!
  9. Well, as they say in America, 'Happy Holidays!'. I agree: PC gone mad.
  10. And ! (great animation by the way!)
  11. It was there, and the photo was of Christine Keeler, if I remember rightly, the sex worker at the centre of the affair played by Joanne Whalley in the film! Philby Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > but what happened to 'British politician sex' > wasnt that profumo?
  12. This is all true, Pugwash. But I still feel it is up to the buyer to make their choices, don't you? Being a member of LAS2000 helps with ensuring the bills are fair and reasonable. And when paying the price for new and VERY good new double glazed windows, the council give people three years no interest credit. Still, it's a lot of money but when doing the search you should find out if anything is planned in advance by about five years, like new windows for example!
  13. Thank you for your posting, Pugwash, by the way. We are living in very worrying times indeed.
  14. May I also recommend all Southwark Leaseholders to be a member (for only about ?12 a year) to Leaseholders Association of Southwark, also known as LAS 2000. They don't have a phone number and are run by some very professional and expert volunteers, but you can write to them on the address here and ask for membership. They have saved me loads of money in payments for things, and offer a lot of very good advice.
  15. (Broadstairs Ramsgate Margate - that bit at the end of Kent!)
  16. Well sorry but I hope Pull The Other One remains at the Tenants Hall. TWO PINTS FOR A FIVER!!
  17. Thanks everyone! (Tarot, I be PeckhamRose, not Sue!) Spacey has just awoke and is now embarrassed she's been photo'd like this (yes, named after Kevin!) A walk from Broadstairs to Ramsgate, fabulous! Now try Broadstairs to Margate at low tide facing the setting sun. Can you believe Clacton though? I ccouldn't. First time I have been there.
  18. Hope you enjoy them. Byeeeeee!
  19. Construction on Donkey Alley and you can see the Shard in the background. And Clacton! No, really!
  20. Now do you see the window cleaners? Dawson Heights
  21. If you look to the distance you can even see an Olympic construction. See the window cleaners on the Heron Tower?
  22. Love that coastline. Broadstairs from the jetty. Joss Bay
  23. A tiny cul de sac in the City. Fancy living in THAt house! And my favourite seaside resort, Broadstairs.
  24. Lazy Spacey and Sudden Snowfall on 17 December 2010 when I was at British Museum!
  25. Shard image by Shard itself. The shine at the top is from the image itself, not my camera! And the Chocolate stall at the food festival at Southbank.
