  1. Well, here's what we did yesterday, but feel free to add your own ideas. We spent the afternoon walking through central London to include Museum of London, a walk through the above-ground walkways through the Barbican, then up the Champagne Bar at Tower 42 (which we had to book in advance and spend ?10 at the bar, so naturally we drank champagne). Here's a view!
  2. It is such a shame Radio 4 is being expected to change to try and appeal to different types of people. They have plays about different cultures; are those plays to attract different cultures to Radio 4 or to teach those of who Radio 4 may assume is their core audience about those cultures? Or both, or just because they are good plays!? Oh - from about 1.30 I listen to Planet Rock (unless the after-Archers play sounds like it may be interesting and not some boring play about rich white folk in Indiahhhh)! But (and this reads like a Radio Times letter - and I subscribe to the Radio Times) Ed Reardon is worth the price of the telly licence all on his own.
  3. 3. carpets. 4. CDs If you want fresh fish go to Sopers in Nunhead. I do not benefit from mentioning them.
  4. Deleted because of yet another PM
  5. And if we were all not so **** self righteous and **** cynical when we post in answer to another's opening post, that would affect how we see and treat everyone else, maybe. I don't care if the poster is someone half of you know, and whether you love or hate him (very community minded), the question was a reasonable one.
  6. Well to start with we can hold our councillors and council officials and police officials to account. And there is opportunity to do that already with community councils not many people attend, police ward panels hardly anyone attends (I usually post dates and venues of these in the What's On section), and make our demands heard. We can also stop whinging about others' lack of action and start acting for ourselves. And we also need to define community and whether that means a geographic boundary and so on. For starters. Or we could all go out into the streets and take part in the Big Society debate like Egypt is doing which is exactly what Cameron suggested. I like that idea!
  7. ..... Tonight, I'm in a two hander. Thankfully it's a rehearsed reading; I've not had to learn anything! But yes, Queenslanders, too!
  8. And The Persuaders!
  9. WTF??? "Every childrens programme it seems is fronted by an alien to these shores, which is political correctness gone bizarrely wrong."
  10. That's politics and politicians for you. I remember the House of Cards and Ian Richardson's character hiring a statistician played by Kitty Aldridge (Mrs Mark Kernof fler) telling him she could devise a questionnaire for a referendum telling him exactly what he wanted to know or results he wanted to hear.
  11. Many council garages are on estates, and take up relatively small amounts of land; certainly not big enough to build more flats on. It is also pointless to compare the price of garages (which store our vehicles which we need and use every day; and no, public transport is not an option for some folk's working lives) with storage spaces.
  12. Well they won't know, will they!
  13. Re my question about garage rents and Sean's useless reply. Sean I did not ask you. And your comment is very unhelpful and unrealistic. Mr Barber (and Sean): There are many empty garages in the council, because people can't afford the current price let alone a new one, which is why the council are advertising them on our rent statements at the CURRENT price (without telling them of the proposed 50% rise in April, the devious s0ds!). 2 years ago Liberals put the prices up 25% which we thought was bad enough, then last year did not put them up because of the elections. I know it is not the most important concern on people's minds, but I just thought I would ask the councillor's opinion.
  14. hahahahahahhhahahaha Brendan. You tinker!
  15. www.southwark.gov.uk then do a search. The council are advertising them for rent at the prices they are now, cheeky s0ds. You'll need a V5 document (the log book) of the vehicle. Or were you being cheeky too!
  16. Could you explain why Southwark Council are putting up garage rents by fifty percent? I expect many will simply stop renting them. Is that their plan, do you think?
  17. I think they meant ont' pitch. As for electric and ovens, isn't that why we have takeaways and fast food joints so we don't have to worry our little heads with these things?
  18. ---- are, apparently, going up FIFTY PERCENT from April. That means they'll be about ?18. A week. Just so's you know.
  19. No, I don't. But you could email and ask them? The consultation period I think is till mid March?
  20. Hope you don't mind Medley but why not start a new thread?
  21. Hi all - the Southwark Transport Plan is a 5.15mb file you may be interested in wading through to see what it has to say about plans in your area. Remember, there is a consultation period and the opportunities to have your say by mid March. All the information can be found via the website link.
  22. " They will also try and solve the root causes" The root causes? Kids just wanna have fun! Still, they're being irresponsible and dangerous to themselves and others, so definitely call the police number above, though doubt the police will catch them.
  23. John Beasley writes history books about East Dulwich and environs. Google him and get an email address. (Not that he has an email address; he lives in the past, too.) Someone else will give him the info that you email him.
  24. Nevertheless that was a great link there lmgtfy.com, pearson! Welcome to the area. You also have great parks, specially Peckham Rye Park and of course nearby or nearby ish you have Dulwich Park Sydenham Woods Crystal Palace Park Nunhead Cemetery and others!
  25. A2 all the way. It's really very easy and quick. Or M2 and junction 5 to Sittingbourne. But M2 is technically more miles, but obviously you can go faster. But the A2 is somehow always prettier. So make your decision. I go through on the way to Thanet many times a year and go both ways, but on a motorcycle not breaking any speeding laws I could get there door to door in about an hour (via M2) to an hour and a half (A2 all the way). Enjoy your journey!
