Try contacting the lovely Avril who is the boss of the cemeteries dept. You could find her details on the Southwark website. -

East Dulwich Road traffic jam: a proposal
PeckhamRose replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sounds all well and good DJKQ but the fact is there is a lot of traffic at those junctions caused by 1) the fact that Foresters Road was cut off to traffic going up Peckham Rye so now it all has to come all the way to where the traffic lights now are - and 2) traffic lights by their existance, especially when in close proximity to other traffic lights, cause congestion when lights are red, specially if there is nothing actually crossing on the green lights at the cross junction. I have said it before and I shall say it again!: I do not have a problem with cyclists going over red lights. It makes perfect sense. There are too many red lights, and the cyclists are exercising their common sense and road skill by crossing when it is safe for them to do so (in most cases). And yes, the word 'overused' is simply daft. -

East Dulwich Road traffic jam: a proposal
PeckhamRose replied to Lee Scoresby's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I have tried over many many years (literally so, the local councillors and ex ex councillors can back this up) to improve the safety especially at the junctions where we / I have to turn right to go up Peckham Rye (east SE15 side). I argued for a roundabout at the junction where the traffic lights now stand. When it was clear they were installed Traffic Lights we begged for a filter light to turn right, but they ignored us all. Meanwhile, talking on here is pointless. If everyone went to Community Councils and / or wrote to the Highways Dept and so on, it might be more effective than just the few of us who used to be ar$sed to do so. -
What a bump! I have now lived here nearly 27 years! That's how big a bump! And it's got better! Ripping off the workers, and shops ripping off customers, is something that is NOT unique to Peckham, honest. Have you ever shopped in Harrods? Well there you are then.

Goose Green Fair - this Sunday (8 May)
PeckhamRose replied to Michael Palaeologus's topic in The Lounge
Nice post maxxi and I agree your point even tho I am a girl. I was at the Grand Designs thingy last week and in the food area heard a woman say, "What the bloody hell IS it about poncy fairy cakes!" Having said that though, it was very very busy today and I liked the general vibe. -
I may be a Humanist Funeral Celebrant but I also have attitude and I am not perfect. My comment was daft and silly, but I still hated the politician that she was.

I read that her daughter has to remind her Mum that Denis has died. That must be sad. I had to remind my own Mum last week that her brother died years ago, and she cried so much. It's heartbreaking. But this is THATCHER, so - you know - hope it HURTS, BITCH!

But to be honest, I will always prefer Mudchute, well, as long as they keep their llamas!

It's here and indeed there is quite a bit of free parking along the road. http://www.surreydocksfarm.org.uk/

But you don't really go for the cuisine do you? In the dim and distant past I went there and the cafe actually closed for lunch! But it's nice for what it is and there seemed quite a good selection of stuff there today. Maybe it's a new menu/cook because it was advertised outside the farm itself. But anyway, enjoy the farm!

Interesting post, though. Me, I feckin' HATE meercats now. If I saw one I'd run it over then post it to the insurance company wrapped in two slices of bread.

So I turned up to this client today to do a job and since getting the job I had cancelled others and am very busy anyway with other things. And she had forgotten I was coming and was not ready. Pee'd off, but in bright sunshine, I took myself off to the nearby Surrey Docks Farm for a delicious Passion Fruit Sorbet and a wander around the farm. The baby goats are adorable and it was all just heavenly. There's a really good cafe there now. The tide was in otherwise I'd have gone for a squelchy walk down to the 'beach' next to the park. Ooooh I felt so much better! Go visit this weekend if you're stuck for something to do. It's fab. And he is king of all he surveys!

There is a petrol station on the Old Kent Road with an M&S Food store attached, just west of the Bricklayers Arms floyover. That's the one I was referring to, not sure if the one on Walworth Road is closer or what.

London Bridge to Holborn by bus, how long does it really take?
PeckhamRose replied to Smiler's topic in The Lounge
I walked from Holborn to London Bridge the other day. Can't remember exactly how long it took but there was SO much t see, you could go different ways each time for ages. And yes, Lincoln's Inn and Temple Inn and so on, fabulous. -
The nearest must be on the Old Kent Road. And if THEY can have one... I'm still wanting (not yet needing) a White Company, though.

Met consultation on Police Station front counters
PeckhamRose replied to joobjoob's topic in The Lounge
Huguenot you are thoughtless and cruel about this. Also as you don't live here I do wish you would think and even try and be a little empathetic, although you probably can not imagine the situation some people find themselves in, where they absolutely need police intervention. I know of two people who had to report awful crimes, and it took them ages to summon up the courage. They needed to see a police officer face to face who they knew would take them seriously, believe them, and take down notes. The day they walked in to the police station was the best day of their lives, and they reported it and were met by professional officers who sat them down in a private room and let them take all the time in the world to report what happened to them when they were a child. They told me that the police were brilliant and got back to them on regular bases with the details of the investigation. Had there been no police stations, they might never have done this. The off chance of seeing a police officer on her or his beat is one thing, but having time to gather nerves and walk in to that station to report a crime whether it happened this morning or thirty years ago is a very important landmark for some people. On a more local / regular level, reporting something more 'usual' we / society needs a base or some sort of 'shopfront' and the police need it too, to know that people can walk in and report or even add information that might solve unsolved crimes. It is discriminatory against the elderly or anyone who can't use a phone or the computer or anyone who feels they can only report their crime face to face, to shut down police stations. Where is this consultation paper? -
So where AM I to buy one of these wii fit contraption thingies so I can get moving without getting out of me nighty?

Good news for Richmond anyway. And an interesting article on shared use roads. Exhibition Road is doing this. Don't know when it will open though.
