  1. Wander around the Isle of Dogs. Get there via either 12 to Westminster then Ferry or DLR from Lewisham. Go south of the island to the Mudchute City Farm for a cuppa and a wander around and see the llamas. It's the biggest city farm in England so I understand. Canary Wharf has great buildings, views, walks and history. You could also pop into one of the pubs along West India Quay, and go to the Docklands Museum there, or walk along the river towards the city and pop in to the Grapes, or even Prospect of Whitby. But a long walk from World's End (go down as far as Chelsea Harbour and then walk back via Lots Road and wander around Cremorne Gardens), then walk up Kings Road to Peter Jones. Perfect.
  2. Thanks maxxi, boy was that tempting! Right: In order of being asked: (But remember I am hoping for a discussion of what they are about and what they mean to people, I still don't understand why some folk are almost religious about Apple). Windows xp (but I don't care long as it's not Apple. It's like cooking with gas or electric. I'm just used to electric / Windows!) Don't care about version long as its the latest when I buy something new. My current laptop is a Toshiba but was put together by E&M as above; ie 6 month old versions of various bits all put together in one laptop at about half the price (maybe that's why they went out of business!) I think they call it 'reconditioned'? Budget - maybe ?500. Microsoft Office but willing to learn others long as all my current documents in Word and Excel can be opened read and worked on still. DVD Webcam - yes but I have one I attach for Skype so not a problem. I am with BT Internet and connect to them via HomeHub, wirelessly. I am very happy with them (Have BT Vision too, it's really good!) and can connect around the country using BT Fon. I have never bought (or needed) a dongle. Thanks acm! Would I be able to connect to BT Internet on a tablet? And which tablet? I rather like the idea of something smaller and lighter to carry around long as I can connect via BT Fon when I am not at home.
  3. Don't tell 'em, Pike.
  4. This MAY get moved to the wanted section as it is advice I am after, but rather I am asking for a discussion and opinions on what sort of devices are best for what sort of occasion. The laptop is dying. I am forced to consider buying something new and lots of fancy new fabulous tricknology has come since I bought this high end Toshiba made up laptop from E&M computers in Grays Inn Road. (Sadly, after a hundred or so years of this family run business ("E&M" stands for electric and manual!) they have had to close their business. I always relied on them for all my computer needs since the 1980s. I know. Anyhow, so the question is for this thread is, who has what. Why did you choose that? What is your ISP or connection choice. If I get a notebook or tablet can I use my BTInternet or how do I connect? Do I have to buy a dongle. I am not into games and need my future device for emails and internet explorer. I am not into Apple so don't want - nor can I afford - an iPad. (I admit to having entered competitions to WIN one, mind you!) Is a note book just a smaller laptop or does it have any other deficits to it? I suspect it is, and yet has just as much capacity as my laptop. I won't (yet) touch cloud technology. I need full Office facilities so something that that runs on. I suppose I want the same again but willing to be persuaded of something lighter and smaller but just as useful! In pink* There is so much information out there, and I read as much as I can and learn and try and keep up. But getting all your thoughts and opinions would be useful too, because you lot come without baggage and no advertising! *Just kidding.
  5. I agree about wondering about how much notice councils / governments take of people when we vote for certain things. But they're committed to getting our opinion; maybe not committed to acting on it. Thanks for your thanks though neilson99!
  6. A McTimoney Chiropractor (there are 3 at the Therapy Rooms above the Health food shop on Lordship Lane) did miracles on my back after a motorcycle accident many years ago. Now I go once every 6 months or so just for a straighten up! I am so sorry to read this sad story though, and I hope some of the answers will help. Here's information about McTimoney Chiropractic. http://www.mctimoneychiropractic.org/
  7. One the voting forms there are various sections you can vote for, for example on the Peckham Rye changes you can vote for raised zebra crossings at various points (or vote against), cycling paths, and the right turn filter lights to take you up both sides of PEckham Rye Park. On the One way system round Copleston / Heaton you can vote for two ways (or not), raised crossing areas (or not).
  8. theboond, After your bad experience and being an intelligent caring sort of person who would want to encourage things to get better, what did they say when you complained to the PALS (Patient and Liaison Service?) And please please please would everyone who ever goes to Kings consider becoming a Member of the Foundation Trust? You get to have a say in what happens and you get to go to meetings to learn about the different aspects of the hospital. I just went to one two weeks ago about the Medical Assessment Units. thebond Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've lived all round the country and over two > years ago I had call to use Kings A&E, their > diagnosis was totally incorrect and the treatment > I received after was second rate. 9. Will this affect me getting to Brixton on the 37 for an 11.00am meeting with a client? If so I'll leave earlier.
  10. Nunhead Surgery on Nunhead Grove, Nunhead has some of East Dulwich in its catchment area and is wonderful; I got to be on their patients forum. They absolutely refuse to have anything but a human answer the phones (ie. none of this "Welcome to RipOff Surgery, you are now being charged for your call but you won't get to actually speak to a human till you've gone through the five options" nonsense. They have telephone consultations and the doctors do phone you when they say they will. I have been with them about 15 years and can't praise them highly enough and the surgery comes in the top three of all surgeries in Southwark when it comes to patient satisfaction.
  11. You will get an answer by emailing: [email protected] So ask 'em and report back!
  12. Ricky Gervais answered a similar question, "The dog the cat and one of the twins". My big bag of diaries My second bag of diaries. That's 41 diaries, I don't think I'm strong enough to carry my laptop as well unless it was in its bag then I could carry that over my shoulder.
  13. Wow. Who's got stuff buzzards like?! That's incredible.
  14. Aha - so being directed by a man who is an actor. This is good for his actors! Hope it is a fantastic script!
  15. Copied from someone else on the justfortheloveofit website "http://www.walworthgardenfarm.org.uk/ Free Introduction to beekeeping sessions Introduction to Beekeeping is a free 1-day course designed to give a general understanding of the role of bees in supporting wildlife and agricultural production and a taster of what it would be like to look after bees. Courses are held on Sundays throughout summer, from 10.30am until 4.30pm (with a break for lunch) and are open to anybody aged 19 years or over. In one day we can only offer a range of topics for consideration, together with the chance to have a practical session working on the Garden’s hives with the Garden’s experienced beekeepers. Some of the basic topics covered will include: the importance of beekeeping bees and honey-bees; the life cycle of queens, workers, drones, and their division of labour the life cycle of a hive: swarming and swarm control the products of the hive: honey, wax, propolis and royal jelly Dates: Sunday 26th June 10.30am – 4.30pm Sunday 3rd July 10.30am – 4.30pm Sunday 17th July 10.30am – 4.30pm Sunday 24th July 10.30am – 4.30pm Please note: The course is FREE but you may only attend once. To book your place contact the Farm on 020 7582 2652 or email [email protected]. Please state the date you wish to attend, along with your full name, contact telephone number, email and postal address. Please note that dates may be subject to change in exceptional circumstances. Beekeeping is a wonderfully rewarding activity and it has an essential role in supporting wildlife and agricultural production. Even in London you can plant fruit bushes or small crops and see them pollinated by bees, or keep bees yourself, if you have a garden and a good relationship with the neighbours." End I did this a few years ago. Really interesting and fun!
  16. obviously. As it goes, my Cousin went with this. He was only 53 and it was a humanist funeral so we all laughed at the irony. , just for a laugh too. And for number three Comfortably Numb as someone mentioned above. ANYthing but bloody Bette Middler Wings Beaneath My wings or anyone's version of My Way!
  17. "That would be the sensible approach". It would, wouldn't it. But this is Southwark Council! I hope you will get some brochures and have your say too, kford!
  18. Oh - and the Copeland-Consort-Heaton improvements, basically allow that those roads shall now be two-way and not one way, but there will be a lot of traffic 'calming' and (hooray) zebra crossings (and not traffic lights!)
  19. Hi all I did not make it to the Peckham Rye and Nunhead Community Council last week. However, I did discover that there was to be a discussion on plans to install right hand filter lights at both traffic light junctions, from where you turn right (coming from the Goose Green end) to go up Peckham Rye SE22 (towards Clock House) and also at the next junction where you turn right to go towards Brockley / and Strakers Road which is the road that leads into the park itself and the cafe. The 484 turns right up that road. I asked for copies of the consultation sheets to be sent to me, within which are comments and a questionnaire for you to fill out and send off. Now, there has been a lot of discussion for years on this site about both junctions and finally the council are considering doing something about it. If you are interested in looking at a brochure of the plans and commenting, please email: [email protected] and ask him to send you the brochures (there are similar ideas for the Copeland-Consort-Heaton gyratory environmental improvements so you could ask for those too if interested). His direct number is 020 7525 2305 The forms for both have to be returned by 11 JULY 2011. The corner of East Dulwich Road and Peckham Rye SE22 is still East Dulwich so I hope this won't be moved to the Lounge. My comment in the form shall be along the lines of, that I hope the right turn filter light will not be a separate light; ie. that we will still be allowed to turn right on the onward green light when it is safe to do so. I think this is good news. And I have been persistently asking for this since those traffic lights went in, years ago!
  20. Mergers, also known as a Marriage, when there are already children or a child ('acquired') by the one (usually the female) being 'taken over'.
  21. Hot pants. I was eleven stone. Oh dear.
  22. Thanks for this. Truly interesting.
  23. Hi MrPR found a passport today when cycling on the green bit through/ under the Commercial Road. He went to hand it in to the Tower Bridge Police Station but there was a queue there and he had not time, so he asked if he could just leave it. Police desk person shouted at him saying he couldn't. But he did thus proving them wrong.... Anyway, he says the address with was not from our imediate ED area, hence I write this in the lounge. Still, shame about police attitude. I mean, that's just wrong.
  24. It's not librarians who choose the books for their libraries anymore. Neither are the staff (all) very well educated in literature matters. I once asked for a book by a well known writer who happened to be female and was told matter of factly that the feminist section was 'over there'. And there was not one Chekov play in the whole of Southwark libraries so I bought my Chekov from Cheners for ?2. Libraries have been going downhill for years. It's sad. My first job out of school was in a library where no advertising posters for anything was allowed, no religious meetings, no political advertising, just books books books. Mind you, computers had not been installed either and we had to put things in alphabetical order. Remember those days? If librarians can't choose which books are bought for the libraries anymore, in many cases keen volunteers would probably do a better job of running the show. They'd need to be covered - insurance wise - for when kids come though. Kids have to get their music and Playboy games from somewhere. And I can't believe I wrote that!
  25. A distrust of most adults.
