  1. I don't have any info on a specialist, but a friend who's son had a fall at a similar age was told to use sunscreen on the damaged skin every day, even if it isn't sunny as its way more delicate and any sun damage would make the scarring worse. You can barely see his scars now so it seemed good advice for him! Good luck with it all - the behaviour thing might just be being 4 though - my 4.5 year old seemed to have a personality transplant around 4 ish that lasted a couple of months. She's much better now....
  2. I'd echo the bit about - enjoy your last month of maternity leave - you never get that time back, why spend it mopping the floor repeatedly - surely there are better things to do with your 11m old.
  3. also recommend Stikins - was suspicious but they really work - take a couple of seconds to apply (including time to peel off the label in the first place). Works on clothing, coats and water bottles. Much preferable to sewing / ironing!
  4. I'm sure I just come on here to recommend this cookbook - and no, I'm not on commission, but would recommend Anna Jones 'A modern way to eat' - she has a second one 'a modern way to cook' too, but I find eat more useful. Its all veggie and mostly vegan and she gives swaps for vegan alternatives. Its my most used cookbook (I'm not vegan, but don't eat meat). Maybe get a copy from the library and give it a try or check out her website.
  5. Would also say that finding out what names are really popular now in schools won't necessarily tell you what will be popular by the time your baby reaches school age. Probably better to go to a local playgroup and see what all the kids are called. Based on a non scientific sample size though the following are popular: Girls: Olivia, Isla, Amelia, Annabelle, Isobelle Boys: Felix, Alfie, Charlie, Harry Also worth looking at the 'most popular baby names' lists. Whilst there are local variations, if you avoid the top 2 in each category it cuts down the chance of multiples. Basically though you can't control it. We chose a name I'd never heard locally before and was way down the popularity list but I've since heard of 2 or 3 more locally. Choose a name you love - there is a reason why some are more popular after all!
  6. Thanks for your response re the leisure centre James. Its disappointing that's what the council agreed, but thanks for letting me know.
  7. Hi James. Wondered if you could help re the contractors on the site next to the ED leisure centre. We go for swimming lessons straight after school. Frequently on the way there the site is having deliveries and the pavement is closed with a sign that just says 'use other footpath'. By the return journey it is always cleared though. Given that the site is right next to a council run pool that has swimming lessons starting at that time and is on the direct route to that pool from at least 2 schools, could the contractors be obligated to make a route through that doesn't involve crossing the road away from the crossing (it isn't always clear at the point of the lights that the footpath is closed, and in any event this would mean re crossing at a point with no lights or central point). There are plenty of barriers at the site so its not unfeasible that they could fence off a pathway next to the delivery. Many thanks
  8. Just to clarify for anyone else searching on this thread - there is no law that restricts the age of passengers in the front. There are laws on appropriate seat belt usage and who is responsible, but not who can sit in the front of an ordinary car. More generally if you do have to have a child in the front seat it is safest to have a rear facing seat with the airbag switched off (ie if you have the choice between a younger and older child as to placement). For older children in High Backed Boosters you need to check what the manual of your specific car says in relation to whether the airbag should be on or off.
  9. Depending on his age, East Dulwich Academy of Music and Performing Arts could be an option? Saturday mornings at Goose Green School. http://www.eastdulwichacademy.org/music/
  10. Peckham hydrotherapy pool is lovely and warm
  11. Night time, consider popping her back in pull ups, sounds like she's not ready and that's just a lot of washing! Daytime - would encouraging her to drink more help? ie so that she feels like she needs to go more? Failing that (and probably out of line with any advice) but would bribes work - ie a treat for every wee on the toilet and an extra one for dry pants all day? Am assuming that given you've been to the Dr there is no medical reason for the wetting, so a bit of 'encouragement' could help?
  12. Think it depends on what your car manual says, but there should be info on there as to what is the safest option for make and model.
  13. Quickest way would be to contact the school directly, but you might want to wait until they get the info through from Southwark - ie would wait until next week or so.
  14. We went to snappy snaps in Camberwell for passport pics - not of a baby but of the kids. They were great and they check them. So much easier than our efforts to do them ourselves. The bus stop to get there drops you off opposite and then the bus coming back is right outside.
  15. Before you switch to a bike with stabilisers you could consider taking him to the strider bike sessions at the velodrome. They have them in the week and on a weekend so check the schedule. Its nice as there are lots of kids doing the same thing which usually encourages them and the coaches are lovely.
  16. https://www.locrating.com/schoolsmap.aspx?tab=schools You could also try this, but not sure exactly how accurate its data is - it claims to remove siblings and those allocated on other priorities other than distance from the maps.
  17. For academies its usually easiest to ask the school. Bear in mind that the opening of the Belham and the Harris Lordship Lane is likely to affect distance criteria too .
  18. When Southern are running a reasonably normal service I get the train from ED to Peckham Rye (where you wait on the same platform for the Overground), then Overground to Canada water and jubilee to CW. Takes about 40 mins generally as the changes don't always work out well between Southern and the Overground plus the Overground is annoyingly slow as you generally have to queue outside Surrey Quays station, whereas if the trains just went straight through it would be about 5 mins quicker I reckon. Think I heard something about getting 6 Overground trains per hour, but not until 2018, which should improve things if it happens. When Southern aren't working I get the bus or walk to Denmark hill and get straight on the Overground.
  19. With the waterproof mats I think it probably works best if a) the ones you buy are pretty large and cover most of the bed and b) your child doesn't move around so much in the night. Our eldest never ends up sleeping with his head anywhere near the pillow so when we tried the mats he'd just scooted straight off them and wee'd on the non protected part (thankfully also had a waterproof mattress protector underneath)!
  20. I haven't done it with a bunk, but this is what worked for us: 1. I didn't let him have no pull ups until he had been dry for 10 nights in a row (know some people won't agree with this as you should seize the day re their interest, but I had no appetite for loads of washing plus they get really tired if you have to keep changing their beds in the night). 2. Waterproof mattress protectors (the ikea ones are nice and not rustley x2 and making up the bed 'twice' (ie mattress protector, sheet, mattress protector, sheet) so that if they do wet then you can just whip off the top layer and theres a ready made bed underneath. Not sure how easy this would be on a top bunk, but we found it easiest if we both went in so that one of us could change pjs whilst the other sorted the bed, so perhaps you could do the PJs part? 3. Boys will wee all over the duvet I'm afraid. I just had a spare one with a cover readily on it so could swap when required and stuck the other in the washing machine He only wet the bed maybe 4 times in total but it made the process much smoother. The other thing is to sit them on the loo when they do wet as sometimes they have started to wee and woken up and then stopped, so its worth checking they aren't about to wee again!
  21. the ikea one with the top section that has a microwave. It fits in alcoves, it has a light up hob, whats not to like? There's a reason why they're so ubiquitous.
  22. We have a whole Victorian house heated with UFH - its lovely even in cold weather. We have double glazed sashes though and lots of insulation on the roof.
  23. Go Karting at JAGS is eye wateringly expensive in comparison for a relatively small group - and there are only 2 go karts I think so suspect would be lots of standing around. T shirt printing is fun. Also trampolining at JAGS
  24. Theres a group on facebook called 'car seat advice for mummies and daddies' that is useful for this kind of thing. Think that the Britax evolva is narrower for a HBB. Might fit between 2 rear facing for the other 2?
  25. We go to the Gower lots and love it - but we don't camp so can't help you with specifics. Know there's a campsite at Oxwich and another at Port Eynon, so worth checking them out. Of those two beaches I actually prefer the beach at Port Eynon, but the restaurant at Oxwich bay (Beach house)
