  1. But perhaps not persecution
  2. Hahahaha I like that. But be careful for what you wish for
  3. Oh no ... the thought of children running around on that roundabout so close to traffic is making me feel very tense! (I know you were joking :) )
  4. ?When the North Cross Road/Lordship buildout was created a couple years ago, we campaigned for planters with seating to be installed on the corner by the Londis, to work in tandem with the market concept across from the pub seating...? I agree a community space with chairs and planters would be nice somewhere in Lordship Lane but the Londis corner is not suitable. Since the build out, there is much more space for pedestrians which was needed especially with the increased foot traffic using the crossing to get to M&S. There just wouldn?t be enough room for planters and seats as well. The seating outside the pub makes the footpath very narrow and many?s the time I?ve had to walk in the road as the path has been blocked, or to accommodate an oncoming pushchair. That part of North Cross may be closed on a Saturday but it?s open to through traffic the other six days of the week.
  5. Perhaps to detract from the surname?
  6. I?ve seen it described as sepia - seems apt
  7. I knew you?d say that! I am a non driver and do not see car driving as an unalienable right, indeed I applaud any measures that reduce car ownership and driving, but this has to be dealt with by an overall strategy, not by one road at a time declaring a kind of UDI.

Nevertheless, it is still a residential road and cannot be classed as ?non-residential? ?So if people have houses or flats that are not in cul-de-sacs they have no right to campaign for their streets to be cleaner, quieter and safer?? Of course they do but demanding their road is closed to all traffic other than their own is a very extreme anti social solution.
  9. ?Denmark Hill, at least up to the top of Ruskin Park, is nearly all shops and hospital premises...? And Ruskin Park to Herne Hill?
  10. As the term ?non-residential road? is being used, it might be useful to define what is meant. The roads described here as ?non-residential? have many residents living on them, probably at the same density as other roads. What also is the criteria for describing them ?primarily? non residential.
  11. You?re just seeing the finished piece without seeing the journey taken to get there. I think the artists themselves are happy to be called street artists in the contemporary sense of the term with their roots in graffiti.

See my previous post regarding the former evolving from the latter. Maxxi: Totally agree. The street art we see around Dulwich is a sanitised version of the art form. Some murals I like, others I don?t.
  13. If Camberwell Grove is permanently closed and part of the public highway becomes inaccessible to many road users, will Southwark Council still be responsible for maintenance, road sweeping and lighting?
  14. I find it very bizarre that residents on a street are even able to request that their road is closed permanently to through traffic. See also Melbourne Grove.
  15. Exactly the same reason I?ve put mine on for short periods the last two weeks!

Unlikely as they?re funded by CGS funding for East Dulwich ward

Towards the end, the fruit and veg shop, Pretty's, opened very intermittently but I think there were a lot of problems. Before that time, it opened regularly.
  18. The originators of graffiti as an art form probably started as 14 year olds doing crap tags.
  19. When I posted earlier, I was thinking of the origins of street art which emerged and evolved from graffiti in the 1970s as a spontaneous and subversive art form. The Dulwich Street Art Gallery epitomises how street art has been assimilated into the mainstream traditional art establishment, and made respectable, losing all its guerilla roots and expressiveness. I?m not saying that?s a bad thing, but I think there?s a statement made by the graffiti on this mural, whether it was made consiously or not.
  20. Love this mural, one of my favourites. On the other hand, there?s an interesting discussion to be had about the spontaneity of graffiti occurring on a managed piece of street art.
  21. Some shops are only open say between Wednesday and Sunday but I suspect they are responding to footfall and when there are likely to be the most customers. In fact it probably makes good business sense, rather than incurring expense for opening a shop when there are likely to be few sales.
  22. I had my flu jab yesterday and was offered a pneumonia jab which is a one off available to over 65s. Has anybody had this? I was told your arm can hurt for up to a month afterwards
  23. Very sorry to learn about your sick dog. Seems like there were similar incidents in Peckham Rye Park, a year ago, the same time of year http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1731903,page=1
  24. Little has changed in Dulwich Village for longer than that
