  1. There was a consultation by Southwark Council that closed about a year ago that did in fact involve pedestrianising NCR from The Old School / Archdale Road to Lordship Lane on Saturdays with stalls on both sides of the road. I understand the suggestion was very popular but since then it?s gone very quite EXCEPT signs were installed prohibiting traffic along NCR from the old school on a Saturday. Perhaps James Barber would be able to bring us up to date?
  2. I believe the section of the road you're looking at is due to become part of the enlarged market on a Saturday and will have stalls set up there. May not be relevant for your purposes but thought it would be useful for you to know

  4. You haven?t allowed for the sale of bread and cakes, my mouth always drops in amazement when I see how expensive they are
  5. This thread from last summer has some information http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1856082,1884417#msg-1884417
  6. It depends where East Dulwich as a whole goes, a high street reflects its area?s residents.
  7. I'm very doubtful it's the same group. They haven't replied to questions regarding how they're constituted or with more specific details about the High Street Challenge they say they're involved with. My hunch is that whatever it's about, it's focussed on marketing/branding to promote businesses with little, if any, benefit to residents. I don't go along with the proposition that a thriving high street that becomes a shopping destination for those outside the area is good for residents.
  8. Ha, just seen the advert for No Flies in the right hand panel
  9. I see OP has edited their original post to add : > > EAST DULWICH ACTION GROUP > The East Dulwich Action Group is comprised of > local residents and businesses working together to > deliver Southwark Council's High Street Challenge > Initiative, provide a sense of identity to East > Dulwich and promote the area to residents and > visitors alike. As has been pointed out the High Street Challenge has now closed but this may be for a project approved before it closed. Is this in fact about delivery of the previously mentioned banners?
  10. Before completing your questionnaire, it would be helpful if you could advise what the aims of your group are, it?s a bit vague at the moment and could cover all sorts of scenarios. The reason I?m asking is that about a year ago money was allocated from Southwark to provide banners from lamp-posts which in the main would benefit local businesses (if indeed they are of any benefit at all!) rather than residents. Thanks.
  11. There are other Booth notebooks which are not yet available online but I believe are in the process of being digitised. These includes interviews with local clergy throughout London. Not for a moment considering these interviews would be available for all to see 100 years later, some of them are most wonderfully indiscreet.
  12. That?s so annoying. Probably won?t be much help in this case but would suggest you get in contact with Collect Plus to let them know this particular point is not operating as per their advertising. Collect Plus say on their website their pick up points are open early to late 7 days a week and V7?s opening hours are given as 6.30am to 7 pm. https://www.collectplus.co.uk
  13. It?s called sensitivity to others? feelings: we are not discussing a celebrity who is looking for attention.
  14. I don?t think anybody?s saying that people shouldn?t give blankets and other items. This thread does make me uncomfortable though, that someone few of us know personally is being discussed in such a public way.

Not sure what your point is but since you asked, see http://www.ideal-homes.org.uk/southwark/assets/galleries/camberwell/glebe-house East Dulwich estate was built much later than the rest of East Dulwich. ETA If I was living there, I?d rather like to live in a ward called Champion Hill, reflecting a more historic heritage, just as I?m happy my own ward is changing to Goose Green from the parvenu East Dulwich.
  16. Champion Hill was a distinct area that existed long before the creation of East Dulwich, in fact East Dulwich Station was originally called Champion Hill.
  17. Have you tried finding out your collection day on the following Southwark Council web page. http://wasteservices.southwark.gov.uk
  18. It would be helpful if you could advise the course you are doing and at which university.

That reminds me that one time I saw a roof survey carried out in Dunstans Road by a camera mounted on a long thin telescopic device. The surveyor was able to move the camera remotely and look at the photos transmitted in his truck to assess condition of roof that way. No idea if this would be cheaper than erecting scaffolding but would certainly involve a lot less faffing about. There are companies who provide this service on the internet.
  20. Though changing at KX is worse in the rush hour, it?s pretty horrendous any time of day! Or OP could catch London Overground at Forest Hill to Highbury and Islington and then pick up the Victoria Line from there. (Confused as to why Bethnal Green was mentioned)
  21. In my experience, changing onto Victoria line at Kings Cross is a nightmare due to large numbers of people and best avoided. Would agree catching VL in Brixton or Vauxhall
  22. People aren?t shy about leaving them on the street in a way so as not to cause obstruction. In other years, the caged pick up trucks have prowled the streets looking for them to collect.
  23. Just saw sign in window saying ?Commercial Premises to Rent?. Very sad, I remember when it opened and has been a stalwart on LL for about 25 years.

Unrelated, but this thread reminds me of a time, probably mid 80s, when the phrase du jour was ?This is it? said very meaningfully and implying someone has just uttered something of great depth.
