  1. I see the word Barber in the heading and I briefly think it is about Mr J Barber - not for a moment suggesting he is associated in any way with the other words in the heading.
  2. Ye-es but collecting whole Christmas Trees is advertised by the council and I think people are just confused that they are not being collected.

(Does anybody else keep thinking this thread is about our own dear Councillor?)
  4. Trump is a clueless clown, a bullying buffoon lacking any tact or diplomacy, a total hysteric. Sorry to state the obvious but I just cannot get my head around the fact he will in a few days be the President of the USA. Just when you think he's gone as low as he possible can, he manages to go even lower.
  5. The story I heard was that Jimi Hendrix wanted to release a white dove for peace but as there wasn't one to hand he released a green parakeet instead.
  6. Perhaps though if the proposed changes to the market go ahead and the road is closed from Archdale, the stalls would then face inward onto the cleared road. Makes a lot more sense and make for a more comfortable experience for visitors to the market.

As Meryl Street said, disrespect invites disrespect. If Russia did have something on Trump, it would explain so much, not the least Trumps erratic behaviour.
  8. If your blue bin had been collected every week you've been lucky. Collection of blue bins alternating with collection of the big green bins every two weeks has been the practice for (guessing) three or four years.
  9. If you trip and cause an injury due to uneven pavement you can sue the Council if the trip hazard is over a certain measurement. I don't see why the same can't apply to Thames Water installations. Take photos of where you fell and the "pot-hole" that caused it and photos of any bruising. Any injury would have to be confirmed by a medical report.

I don't think this has been taken account of in the seemingly least innocuous position of bird poo.

    Camberwell 1963

I believe Dairy Farm Place was built on the site of Hatcham Dairy Farm. At the time the film was made it was within the borders (just) of Camberwell Borough Council so this might be the farm referred to. ETA. Here is a link to a photo that shows the Hatcham Dairy Farm. The date it was taken is given as 1970 and there is a 'Lease for Sale' sign up so perhaps it was still an operation farm in 1963. Edited again to insert link https://collage.cityoflondon.gov.uk/view-item?i=57917&WINID=1483785366083
  12. This section is for posts about East Dulwich only. Posts about extra terrestials should be in the Lounge.
  13. A very quick google will tell you that hair grows back if lost through chemotherapy. Is this an inappropriate way of advertising hair transplants?
  14. I came across this film on the BFI website, a documentary about Camberwell in 1963 at a time when a lot of reconstruction work was being carried out. It's 30 minutes long but I was fascinated. Hoping the link works. http://player.bfi.org.uk/film/watch-changing-face-of-camberwell-1963/
  15. I put mine out yesterday and it disappeared overnight or very early this morning. Guess it was the guys in the caged lorries.

  18. Surprised but pleased to see Ray Davies receive a knighthood.
  19. Are you paying a greater share of the freehold purchase price or are you each paying seven equal amounts? Perhaps the share issue would reflect the proportion that each leaseholder pays.
  20. It's all got a bit weird in the last few years. Used to be if you were travelling on a bus and wanted to get off at a compulsory stop you didn't have to ring the bell but now if you don't the bus will go sailing past the stop. A couple of times I remonstrated with the driver who told me I should have rung the bell. So just to be sure, when I'm waiting at a bus stop I always stick my arm out unless the bus is already indicating and when wanting to get off I always ring the bell.
  21. If he was casing properties I'd have thought he'd have kept a lower profile. Sounds to me someone with mental health problems.
  22. I'm going round to the Co-op and stare at the bread shelves then blink an eye and see a miracle happen.
  23. I was there a couple of weeks ago and asked if they would be back in January. They hummed and haad and said they didn't know and advised me to go to the recycling plant on OKR. So I'm guessing they won't be back.
  24. Really good to hear memories about the swimming baths, reminds me of where I grew up in West London where there were not just first and second class but also a third class pool, really tiny. But getting back to the chimney, sorry to be a downer, but if you look at it in relation to the spire of St John's Church the chimney in the picture is quite a bit to the right/east whereas as has been said the swimming pool's chimney would be much closer. The swimming baths chimney is very much shorter and is in fact still there, exposed by the current building works. The chimney in the picture is very very tall, unusually so.
