"Anyways, why say 'UK taxpayers', do you not think immigrants pay tax?..." UK taxpayers includes immigrants

AFAIR when the Glazer Delmar sign appeared at the end of North Cross Road, JB was outraged it had been put up without planning permission. Now it is intended to put up 35 banners from lamp-posts - 35 - which JB appears to support. Surely these would need planning permission? My criticisms are that, as someone has pointed out, these banners can look very tacky in a very short space of time and that this is a business led initiative that will benefit only the businesses while the residents have them imposed on them without any discussion. I see there is one resident on the "steering group" but as they are part of the initiative they are clearly in favour when in fact many of the residents may not be so may not be representative.

The guy who owned the pet shop in North Cross Road told me it had been a struggle for a while, he was unable to compete with the supermarkets and online so I guess running a pet shop is just not viable these days. Shame, there are very few pet shops about now.

Tony Blair has become toxic. Even though he may be speaking sense, he is doing more harm than good.

I've found the attached article http://www.semgonline.com/RlyMag/ForeignDepotsofSthLondon.pdf which describes and has a photo of the coal depot in Walworth Road which opened in 1871. The photo shows a wider area than the railway line at the station shown on the ordnance survey map of 1916 but a little to the north, where the old council depot was and Manor Place Baths, there is a stretch of railway with some sidings to the east. http://maps.nls.uk/view/103313387 So maybe this was the coal depot? BTW, the article also has information on the Peckham Coal Line which I think the people behind the proposed new Peckham Coal Line have used as background information.

I don't think so but would explain the steep incline. As far as I know, it was a regular station for passengers on the London, Chatham and Dover railway.

A golden oldie of a thread about Le Moulin from nearly 10 years ago. Plus ca change and all that ... http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,13969 -
Walworth Road Station was a station on the railway line between the old Camberwell Station and Elephant and Castle which closed in 1916. I came across this drawing on the Southwark Collections website which I thought may raise either a smile or a groan. http://heritage.southwark.gov.uk/objects/21433/the-walworth-road-railway-station-c-1876?ctx=1cc05064-3af0-4544-a552-0c2a83eee67b&idx=245

Rats amid filth surrounding Sainsburys car park
nxjen replied to grancabrona's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm afraid the problem of rats in the grounds surrounding Sainsburys is nothing new though I thought the problem was more under control now. I spoke to the manager about this over 10 years ago and was told I should get in touch with Southwark Council as the rats were coming in from outside their boundary and it was up to Southwark Council to get rid of the rats so they couldn't enter Sainsbury's property. Hmmmmm. It is worrying they have reappeared and close to the nursery at that. I think contacting the Council is your best bet, not for the reasons given to me by the store manager, but I would have thought they would be able to put pressure on the store to clean up the mess as it must be a H&S issue. Can the nursery add more weight? -
Southwark Plans for Camberwell Old & New Cemeteries.

I don't think anyone is disputing it is a significant nature conservation area. It does however put peoples' backs up, well it does mine, that certain people take ownership of an area through renaming and rebranding it. -

It's like no one had heard of Southwark Woods until a couple of years ago! -
I'm interested in how this benefits the community as well, it seems there is only one resident on the "panel" and I wonder if s/he has any connection with the businesses. Given the market is only open one day a week, banners on lamp-posts seem to be an overkill. What are the "community elements" referred to in the original post? I have no problem with businesses marketing themselves but to say it is for the benefit of the community is disingenuous.

Are Southwark's "Missed Bin" Collections Entirely Fictional?

Good luck, though I've found where the brown bin is concerned, as this is on a weekly collection, they will expand the three days to coincide with the regular collection next week. -
And wouldn't you know it, it was thaoly10 who was looking for a dentist on the other thread.

I'm wondering if the courier company is DPD? They give a one hour delivery window and an online tracking facility that lets you track progress of the delivery van. I've had deliveries from them when at about 9.30 I've been about the 50th drop but still they've made the delivery window of say between 11.30 and 12.30. Allowing 10 minutes per delivery is over generous as in fact the delivery addresses are close together and often there's more than one parcel delivered to the same address. I'm a big fan of DPD, even paying slightly more if there's the option that they deliver rather than a free delivery with another courier.

Bakerloo line extension - have your say for Peckham Rye
nxjen replied to Goldentoothpick's topic in The Lounge
TFL have already consulted on which route the extension should take and as a result of that the proposed route via Old Kent Road to Lewisham was chosen. The current consultation is regarding proposals for that route. -

Who says there's no class system in the UK? -
Well no, they're just considering asking for online identities, i.e. Usernames. Though why US immigration think anyone who has posted rabid anti American messages on Facebook is going to meekly complete a form with details of their online alter egos is a bit strange.

I am heartened though that there are people willing to stand up to him and to use the law to do so, that the judiciary have asserted their independence to remind him he has to act within the law. Early days I know.
