Waterloo Bar and Kitchen is consistently good, and not pricey. Ditto Tas on The Cut.

This happens thousands > of times every day to women all over the world. > Stop shouting 'look at me' and just get on with > it. How unbelievably depressing and reductive this is. The women you are lumping together here are not a homogenous group with one world view. They are workers, sisters, daughters, friends. Individuals. The thing they have in common is that they're at the same stage of their lives, so have some shared needs. How can you resent them all? Is it because they have nicer buggies than you did, or access to better coffee? In reducing them all to a group to be judged and resented, you are no better than the women who judged you when you were a new mother. I welcome the daytime custom many of these women bring to our local shops and cafes. They're contributing to the local economy and they have an incredibly important stake in the local community. Why can't women be more supportive of each other and their choices? -
North Cross Road Market (where's it gone?)

Many have tried on a Friday, and many have failed. They probably mean that Saturdays are full. If you ask about Friday, they'll likely bite your hand off! -
Really sad to hear this. If Mackerel's lovely owner is reading this, Mother's Dumplings are terribly sorry for your loss x

This is what the proprietor told me. Why would he lie? Designerjooles Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I highly doubt they will be serving allpress > coffee when you can get a few doors down at toast!

They'll be serving Allpress coffee. All I need to know...

Love this thread! More please... -
You could try Bar Soho - might be too late for somewhere so central though... http://www.barsoho.co.uk/planthings/reservesomespace

A real loss. Will miss the great coffee, Tunisian Orange Cake, Welsh Rarebit, the proper homemade-ness and quality of it all...
-
Bambuni in Nunhead sells the quite excellent Volcano coffee beans. Worth the 10 minute trot over there...
-
Watch out for cronuts - only a matter of time before they hit these shores. Selling on the black market in NY for $100 apiece. Nothing you put in your mouth can be THAT good!

Number 22's catering arm, Casa Paella, make the best paella I've tasted on the street food circuit, and they're local. All made from fresh ingredients using real stock, free-range chicken and quality rice. We used to trade next to them so saw the whole process.

There's a food marker at One New Change tomorrow lunchtime to mark St George's Day. Mother's Dumplings will be there selling free-range sausage and mash with onion gravy/beans, and there will also be great fish and chips, pies, oysters plus more English fare... Stallholders have to have handwashing facilities on site. We earned 5 points at Mother's Dumplings - and we use a hand basin, hot water in flasks, cold water for mixing, anti-bacterial soap and a hand towel. As well as disposable food gloves. If in doubt, ask the stallholder in question... susiq Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > where do the people in north cross road, who sell > food wash their hands etc., befor the Palmerston > opens its doors?

He should just take it as a condiment...

Assault on East Dulwich Grove

Assault on East Dulwich Grove

Not trolling, but a response to the notion that women shouldn't go out alone at night, as suggested earlier in the thread. -

Maybe a curfew on men, so that women can wander the streets all night if they wish to? -
Sorry to disappoint Razors and DulwichFox, but as one of said food traders, I cam assure you that we are all inspected regularly by Southwark Food Team. In our case, we are also inspected by Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Camden and Lambeth, as we trade elsewhere in the capital. We are also inspected at home by Southwark. And by law, we have to keep HACCP records which relate to storage, preparation, cooking, re-heating and holding temperatures. In some respects then, we are more closely monitored than cafes and restaurants. It really isn't in any of our interests to sell food that could make our customers ill. Not good for business. Of course you don't have to eat any of our food if you don't want to. But please check with the traders in question before making unfounded allegations. This is how we make a living, so we take it extremely seriously.

Thank you, Showboat. Brilliantly put...

Brilliant! Thanks for the update, James.

Best vegetarian restaurant in London- recommendations please!
MissDumpling replied to zeban's topic in The Lounge
Definitely Vanilla Black - a cut above any other vegetarian restaurant I've tried in London Town... -
Poule au pot with turnips, swede, carrots and shallots. Served with mash and a sauce gribiche - heaven! Or - to knock out on the night - butternut squash and blue cheese risotto. Quick and yummy.

You have to apply to Southwark Council - temporary pitch fee is ?24 for a Saturday. Good luck!
-
I think there are 30 available pitches, rather than stalls. And in theory, traders could pitch up Monday to Saturday, but in reality there just isn't the footfall in the week to make this viable.
