  1. He should just take it as a condiment...
  2. We used Sandelsons - and paid a bit more for British-made shutters which are sturdier than those manufactured in China, so have a longer guarantee. They look lovely.
  3. I can't recommend Rosie Jones highly enough. She's managed to banish my sciatica after one treatment which feels frankly miraculous.
  4. 5. Not trolling, but a response to the notion that women shouldn't go out alone at night, as suggested earlier in the thread.
  6. Maybe a curfew on men, so that women can wander the streets all night if they wish to?
  7. Sorry to disappoint Razors and DulwichFox, but as one of said food traders, I cam assure you that we are all inspected regularly by Southwark Food Team. In our case, we are also inspected by Tower Hamlets, Westminster, Camden and Lambeth, as we trade elsewhere in the capital. We are also inspected at home by Southwark. And by law, we have to keep HACCP records which relate to storage, preparation, cooking, re-heating and holding temperatures. In some respects then, we are more closely monitored than cafes and restaurants. It really isn't in any of our interests to sell food that could make our customers ill. Not good for business. Of course you don't have to eat any of our food if you don't want to. But please check with the traders in question before making unfounded allegations. This is how we make a living, so we take it extremely seriously.
  8. Definitely Vanilla Black - a cut above any other vegetarian restaurant I've tried in London Town...
  9. Poule au pot with turnips, swede, carrots and shallots. Served with mash and a sauce gribiche - heaven! Or - to knock out on the night - butternut squash and blue cheese risotto. Quick and yummy.
  10. Si Mangia - if you tried it when it first opened and were underwhelmed, do give it another go. They've really raised their game. We gave it a second chance and have been back for more... Tasty!
  11. Favourite local eatery has to be Number 22 in Herne Hill. Great for sharing, and fantastic wines. Oh, and sherries. Lovely!
  12. You have to apply to Southwark Council - temporary pitch fee is ?24 for a Saturday. Good luck!
  13. I think there are 30 available pitches, rather than stalls. And in theory, traders could pitch up Monday to Saturday, but in reality there just isn't the footfall in the week to make this viable.
  14. Thanks, Charliebrown, and other positive posters. We work incredibly hard to produce our wares for this and other markets, so it's pretty disheartening when people write the whole market off in such a dismissive fashion. It's a bit quiet at the moment, but this market isn't dying - and we are very grateful to all of our lovely regular customers who are so supportive and positive about what we're doing. May the market go from strength to strength.
  15. The Licensing Committee meets this Tuesday from 7pm at the Town Hall. Northcross Road is the last item on the agenda.
  16. The online survey is here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Transport_Plan_Survey
  17. Our beef and ale stew and dumplings is certainly catching on in East Dulwich, Huguenot. It flies out from our stall on North Cross Road on Saturdays. Pop along to Mother's Dumplings to have a try!
  18. Thanks for the tip, Tarot. Will get the dumpling researchers onto it forthwith.

Just made me laugh so hard something snapped. Not sure if foundation garment or ligament - am investigating...
  20. To trade on North Cross Road, you have to apply to Southwark Street Trading for a temporary licence. They grant licences on the basis of pitches available, commodities offered, etc. Not sure if there's a waiting list for Saturdays at the moment. If you get a licence, you then trade as regularly as you wish, paying only for those days. You have to provide your own stall. The pitch fees go to Southwark Council. Hope that answers a few of your questions, Tarot.
  21. We saw a kingfisher in Peckham Rye Park a couple of years ago, darting back and forth up the brook and finally settling on a tree for a good ten minutes. We just stood and stared, spellbound, while passersby walked on oblivious. Wonderful to see one so close to home!
