  1. Not much help, but just to say East Dulwich Community Hospital is part of Kings College NHS Trust - neither of which are really nothing to do with Guys & Tommy's as they're totally separate NHS Trusts. I would suggest you call your community midwife at Kings and ask them for a contact for the classes - you should be able to change the days fairly easily. Hope you get it sorted.

Yes, I don't know when seenbeen's children attended, but mine were there 2000-2013, and through that time the huge majority of parents walked their children to the village schools. It was always an irony as we headed past Alleyns and down the hill to DVI & Hamlet, to see all the little darlings being driven UP the hill from outlying areas to JAGs and Alleyns.
  3. Roisin came and pruned our micro-orchard, she was a delight to have round. I was very impressed at her knowledgability, she bought all her own tools, and was prompt, friendly, flexible and forgiving (I arranged to see her then couldn't be there and forgot to tell her. She didn't hold it against me!). If you need any kind of gardening services then I could not recommend Roisin highly enough. Our fruit trees have never looked better or happier. Don't delay, call her now.
  4. I think the residents parking in Albacore crescent is free from 6pm - then you can just go in via the women's health entrance.
  5. ..and your post is still in the wrong section. Please delete and repost, or admin to move it to businesses.
  6. Greendale's been used like this for time immemorial - it's not not a recent 'occurrence'. My husband & his brothers all learned to ride a motorbike down there in the early 70's. Kids have been using this way since well before any flats were built around it.

A friend of mine worked for them and they were unpleasant to the extreme, they made her life a living hell and in the end she took them to (and won) an industrial tribunal. Don't believe the hype - all that glisters and all that...

VelvetBlueBerry - unfortunately he isn't. I think he's learning caution, but he's learning it the hard way. I can only hope he learns enough of it before he encounters a seriously nasty or dangerous person. I would never have imagined that being a shop worker could be such a hazardous profession. :(
  9. I contacted Beverly and had a text conversation. All went well, and she was agreeable to the 2.5hrs a week I was asking for, until I asked for references then she closed me down very suddenly stating that her minimum clean was 3hourly and she couldn't meet me. Disappointing and frustrating.
  10. We are looking for a reliable and reasonable book keeper for our small, and just getting off the ground, new business. Can anyone recommend one please?
  11. El Presidente Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've been patrolling Tesco with my nunchukas > recently and no one has nicked anything. Problem > solved. Could you please patrol the Tesco in Herne Hill? My son works there and has twice in the last 6 months been beaten up - requiring A&E & stitches - for attempting to apprehend shoplifters (he's not the security guard by the way). He has an overdeveloped sense of right & wrong & insists that he will not stop trying to stop the thieves. I live in fear that one of these days, one of the shoplifters he tackles will have a knife or a gun. You and your Nunchukas could make that a little less likely.. (I know you were adding some levity to this rather depressing thread El P, and I'm not serious of course about your help) But, I did want to raise the reality of the dangers these people pose to the shop workers. Maybe the OP didn't use PC terminology but she was coming from the right place by posting to raise awareness, and maybe to let the scum-bags know that they are being watched - that just because they walked away doesn't mean there will be no consequences to their crime. With Police resources and manpower at a low, we the community need to step up in our vigilance and willingness to step in to help when weaker members are being attacked or crimes are committed in front of us. Whether it's by filming on our phones to help the police, paying close attention so you can give police a good description, following at a safe distance when they walk away to help police find them, or actually stepping in to help physically if you feel able. Our world is becoming more lawless, our elected representatives don't seem to care much because mostly they appear to live in the rarefied atmosphere of a different world order, so communities need to get used to taking on more responsibility for policing ourselves and doing more to help ourselves to keep our communities safe.

  13. Thanks garages, where in Kent would you suggest (it's a big place :D)?
  14. As the title says, I'm feeling the need to revel in nature's beauty and wondered where our nearest bluebell woods might be - can anyone recommend any? Happy to drive or travel by train.
  15. Once an epidural is sited it stays in until the baby is born. Consequently you would have to stay in the consultant led unit from that point (siting of epidural) onwards.
  16. Just to be clear: If you are using the midwife led rooms (which research suggests will improve your chances of having a straightforward vaginal birth without interventionshttps://www.npeu.ox.ac.uk/birthplace/results)and you decide you need an epidural, then you be will transferred to another room a short walk away on the same floor in the consultant led unit and you can have your epidural there. Using the midwife led rooms does not exclude you from choosing an epidural at any point.

Tricia at Portrayedphotography does utterly beautiful pictures, she's a local Mum herself so she really knows how to get the best out of children, and is so patient, kind and fun. Check out her website - her work is lovely and really worth considering. very reasonable rates too. https://portrayedphotography.smugmug.com
  18. Hey snoopy17 - why such a miserable attitude to this place that most on this forum are pleased to call home and raise our children in? It's not a rough area (and not in-between Peckham and Camberwell - a quick check of google maps will tell you that). In the 24 years I've lived in ED, and the 60+ years ,my husband has been here it's never been 'rough' - London is becoming a brutal city to live in and this later incident is just a consequence of that. Im not rich (I wish!) but this area is very special to me, because it's my home. This is a forum for the people of ED, if you don't like the place and consider it nothing special then please feel free to go live somewhere 'special' instead - Im sure you and your miserable negative attitude would be warmly welcomed in some special place ... somewhere.
  19. On the day, after family pressies and a 'special' birthday breakfast I had organised for her to have her colours done, then we had a lovely trip up to Oxford street to choose a Mulberry handbag as an investment piece. Lunch at a place of her choosing, then in the evening a family meal at the OXO tower restaurant (cost an arm and a leg!). She celebrated separately with her friends, and seemed very happy with both the day and her lovely bag.

Thanks for your post alex_b, not to worry - I wasn't insulted at all, just concerned :D I did pm you if you'd like to elaborate further off thread. OP I'm sure whichever you choose you'll have a great time, meet some lovely people and make some new, strong friendships. :D
  25. Actually Greengrammaphone, some NCT sessions in East Dulwich ARE run by a local midwife (me) :) I also run some of the Bump and Baby groups in ED, the others being run by the extremely experienced, highly trained, knowledgeable and entertaining Becky (those of you who have had the pleasure of being taught by Becky will know just how much fun and humor she injects into her classes - she also runs the NCT courses in Nunhead). As far as I can tell, course structure is inevitably similar throughout all three providers in East Dulwich/ Nunhead - NCT & B&B also aim to cover antenatal and postnatal issues, usually over 12 hours and divided roughly into half labour and birth and half postnatal issues. The main difference in all these classes as far as I can tell is that the B&B sessions include a specific 'first aid' session run by a qualified infant first aider, and that with the NCT all the money from your booking goes to a charity that lobbies for better conditions for new parents - it's a not-for-profit organisation. Otherwise it's really down to which timings suit your personal circumstances best. I would just add that Alex_b I am very sad and disappointed to hear that you felt you didn't learn much. I will pm you separately as if that really is the case then I suggest that you ask for your money back. All these classes are expensive - personally I'm aware of this, and I work hard to give good value for your hard-earned money - If I was your NCT teacher I want to know about it and will be following up. I hope this helps you decide which classes are right for you. Really there's not much to chose between them, and as for being run by midwives or antenatal teachers - well after 15 years of teaching antenatal classes, and being a midwife Ive actually found that the most, informative and entertaining sessions I've observed have been those run by highly qualified facilitators who have been trained to teach adults to a high standard - sometimes these are midwives, but more often they are not. Did you know that now NCT teachers have to have a degree in teaching Antenatal Education to run classes, and up until recently they also had to have been through labour and birth themselves? So I wouldn't concern too much over knowledge base - it's much the same for midwives and NCT teaches - just coming from a slightly different angle.
