Rogue moped riders operating in this area
sillywoman replied to Robert Poste's Child's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Poor poor woman, and poor poor us that our society is crumbling to the point where this can happen on our streets and the outcry is ...well... muted. Almost as if we've become immune to this type of brutality. I think that the Police cannot protect us anymore we are at a tipping point, the other side of which is that motorbike gangs rule the streets. It's all very very scary. -
Dropped kerb: planning application needed?
sillywoman replied to Fringe09's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
No no, you can park actually ON someone's driveway. Yes it's trespass, but the police won't touch it cos it's now a council matter, and the council don't have the facility to deal with it, so they won't do anything. Of course they COULD issue a PCN as per Sally Eva's (rather odd) post (why would they lie?), but they won't/don't. My poor friend had someone parked on her drive (locally) for 6 months with no recourse to any law to help her for the whole time. -

They can complain to the council, but the council has no facilities to take any action and so they don't/won't. Google it to see. I was told by a friend who had an awful time with people parking on their drive near a train station, discovering that there was in fact nothing they could legally do, I was very suprised, so investigated further, and sure enough.... -
Dropped kerb: planning application needed?
sillywoman replied to Fringe09's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I learned the other day that you can park on anyone's drive and it's not illegal as long as you're not blocking anyone in! It was a bit of a jaw dropper to be honest. So if your neighbours put in a drop kerb, you can't find anywhere to park on your road & their drive is empty, you can just use it as a parking space. -

I'm not patronising you, I'm chastising you for giving terrible advice. It's still terrible. If you're not coping please DONT call an ambulance, get yourself to hospital in the manner you have planned. Ambulances are for emergencies only - most labours are not emergencies (appreciating there will always be exceptions such as those I mentioned in a PP). vicki08 - Oh my! brave choice, gulp!

MrsTP that's terrible advice. Please don't call an ambulance, unless it's absolutely an emergency(e.g. unplanned home birth or someone is unconscious, or bleeding badly). Ambulances are not hospital taxi's, and if it's too uncomfortable to sit in a car then the same will apply to an ambulance. If it's too late for a taxi (i.e. baby is on its way out) please do call 999 and they will send a community midwife & a paramedic to you. Please don't use the ambulance service as a free taxi to hospital.

Parent & baby spaces at Sainsburys ED

Im in the category you describe, and have the utmost sympathy with parents of young children using those spaces. I well recall the difficulties of manoeuvring a full trolley of shopping, a baby and a few toddlers into the car in a busy car park. In normal spaces this can be quite a hairy process as either the baby in the trolley, or the toddlers are inevitably left the road behind the car whilst you try to get them all in as speedily as possible. The bus thing is not relevant at all - do you imagine parents of young children now don't go on buses? How embarrassing to have you suggest that I might share your closed-minded 'it was worse in our day' attitude based on my age. Nothing like. I never, never park in P&C spaces because i don't need the extra space now, parents with babies and toddlers do - to keep them safe. -
Where's hot and not - SE22
sillywoman replied to sticklebackplastique's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Angelina Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > If you'be got kids presumably your priority is > school. So, either SE24 near Charter, or near the > new Charter. Not sure why Angelina thinks you need to be in SE24 for The Charter? We live firmly in the SE22 area OP described (Tross/Tarb/Glengarry, and all the kids (who attend state secondary) from this area go there - including ours. Also, RPC's feeling that this area is one of the "hotspots for burglary, stabbings and muggings" couldn't be more wrong. In fact in the 23 years we've been in this house it's been very quiet - last week notwithstanding - most of the crime in ED seems to happen around the area she mentioned on the other side of LL.With respect PRC you're talking nonsense. Our gardens get a nice breeze in summer. If that kind of thing is even relevant? -
"we are lucky to have these fine establishments so close to us" What utter poppycock. These fine establishments do nothing to benefit the lives of me or mine, and only serve to irritate and aggravate with their loud, arrogant, drug taking students hanging around our streets and arrogant, monster-truck driving parents using our near by roads as a free car park or racetrack on tier way to drop little Johnny at school - not to mention their teachers using us a car park since they built over their quadrangle parking. How on earth do you think they are of any benefit to people living near them? In what way do they benefit 'us'. What an ignorant comment. Tchk!

Attempted burglary - Trossachs Road - 5pm 3 April
sillywoman replied to ak100's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
They're either very cocky, or very thick to still be hanging round here - mind you, with the notable lack of Police visible in the area, they're probably quietly confident that they can get away with whatever criminal activity they chose - and sadly with good cause in my experience. :( -
Maternity at Kings and St Thomas
sillywoman replied to Calvert's topic in The Family Room Discussion
The postnatal care at most hospitals is the weak link in the maternity chain - always under resourced and the midwives are overloaded. I wouldn't be too concerned about Kings in particular. I'm a midwife locally and can definitely assure you that over the last 15 years I've heard many many just as bad (or worse) stories about the other local units too - Kings is not alone. You're lucky to live in an area where you have a choice of world class birth units, some consultant led and also a gold standard birth centre. There's no perfect solution, I would suggest you consider booking with the hospital that's easiest to get to from your home. -
Thankyou :)

My son tells me that the tel website is not as up to date as he would like. Can anyone recommend an app that is better for checking whether trains are running?

Ah, taking the kids to see where the 'next stage' of education could lead? Got ya OP :D https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_triangle_(universities)

Yeknomyeknom, In the interests of clarity I have to point out that if all is going well and baby is breastfeeding regularly without problem it's not at all 'normal'- as your post claims - and in fact extremely unusual indeed to 'run out of milk'. I don't know the specifics of your circumstance so obviously can't and won't presume to comment on them, and I'm sorry you feel that your feeding experience led you into depression, but it's not right to allow women to think that it's 'normal' to run out of milk when it isn't. Breastmilk can decline of baby isn't being put to the breast enough, there are some specific health conditions and medications that can deduce milk supply, & some women have breasts that are a particular shape that makes milk production difficult from the start, but these are very separate and specific issues and none is 'normal'. If any woman has breastfeeding concerns she should speak to her midwife, or a breastfeeding specialist asap. Edited to say: Sorry OP for sidetracking your thread, and I'm sure the midwives will be in touch soon with dates for your antenatal classes.

A newsletter? Interesting .... don't recall having seen one of those before, but well done bels123 for taking action. It was the mains power before wasn't it? Don't they have a night watchman on site who's keeping an eye on this sort of thing to make sure it doesn't happen, or that appropriate action is taken when it does?

Last night at 12.30am a bird was singing it's heart out in our street - does anyone know which birds would sing at night? It's highly unusual and I couldn't see where the bird was to see what it looked like.
-
No, I don't think so. Scotch Corner is the streets Gengarry, Trossachs, Tarbert etc.etc. - I was told these streets were sometimes known by this name when we moved here >20yrs ago - apologies if you know better intexas'and are offended.
-
I live near the crane (Scotch Corner) and it does worry me that the light isn't always working - especially as we do - as macutd said - get some very low flying police helicopters from time to time. Does anyone have a number or a contact that it can be reported to so the problem can be resolved. Although its concerning that the crane operators don't have their own system for making sure its functioning overnight while no-one is on site.
