Renata, if you're reading.. One o'c club

If you're sitting on the Common's grassy area, you wouldn't be able to see into the play area to keep an eye on your kids. Plus a hedge needs maintenance. Baby swimwear - anywhere in ED?
Saffron replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm in SE4 if anyone else wants the Happy Nappy... xx -
Here's what Wikipedia has to say on the subject... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laundry_ball So, it would appear that laundry balls of various types are the 'homeopathy' of laundry cleaners. Your clothes will be clean if you perceive them to be so. ;)

Baby swimwear - anywhere in ED?
Saffron replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Does Mothercare or another swim shop have next day delivery? You might be able to avoid going out altogether if you order today. I have size large Splash About Happy Nappy that you could have for free... but it's pink! -
kid Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I heard echoballs are rather bad > > in fact i dont use nuts on my kids at all > > as that frowned upon Kid, what do you mean by 'rather bad'? Is it that you think ecoballs don't work to clean the clothes, or that you believe there is some harmful or negative effect of ecoballs? Also, when you say that 'nuts' are 'frowned on', do you mean that you dislike soapnuts, or that they are somehow bad for your children, for example are your children allergic to them?

Just heard more sirens here too. Couldn't tell if they were headed south towards Frst Hill or east to Lewisham.

I'm in se4. Can suddenly hear LOTS of sirens in the distance!

Edited to read "We're going to pelt them with cat litter and nonbranded children's plastic building blocks." *Actually the plural is LEGO® bricks, but I'm having trouble typing since my toddler pulled half the keys off my laptop and just days before my thesis is due!!!!

We're going to pelt them with cat litter and nonbranded children's plastic building blocks.

No ill will taken here, Alan Medic. But perhaps you could have elaborated on what you were suggesting in reference to my first post, when you replied, "It didn't sound like it was 'over nothing'. We are grown ups here." ?? Your statement is fairly vague. My reading of it was that you thought my understanding of the OP was naive and my reply childish. It was of course neither, and so I don't take any offence. But it's exactly these kinds of vague comments that would have put me off replying if I were the OP. The Subject line, is "Child Abuse... advice please". The OP did get some good advice before the thread descended into a grey zone of endless speculation, moot debate, and virtual rubbernecking. All very entertaining, but it's not *advice* is it? So, my advice to the OP is not to post anymore on this thread! Red1, I'm sure you've made the best decesion you could given the evidence and resources you've had. ;)
-
Could it also be that the OP simply wanted advice and didn't want to get involved in what turned into a rather elaborate though relatively unsophisticated debate on this thread? I'm keeping positive and sticking by my original hope: all a big hoohah over nothing.

What to do with bottle feeding equipment?
Saffron replied to mima08's topic in The Family Room Discussion
If it's new enough to be BPA free, why not offer it on the family classifieds section? -
Let's hope that's b/c it was all a big hoohah over nothing, and that children and parents are all fine?

flying with toddler on lap and 33 weeks pregnant...
Saffron replied to nikki73's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi nikki73- Sorry no advice to offer, but I agree walking up/down. I'm sure you must have checked that 33 weeks pregnant is ok -- some airlines have a lower allowance. Even still, it's a good idea to take a midwife's letter with you. And don't forget to take your pregnancy notes and birth plan! -
Have you thought of starting Tiny Talk classes? This is British sign language for babies and toddlers. Or Makaton? Another type of signing for children. Signing supports speech development. It can help ease frustration for toddlers that don't yet have their words. Equally, if you do find that there is a speech problem you've already got the signing to help you. I sympathize w you re rubbish advice from HVs. It happened to us too. If you're really worried, of course see your GP. Any GP worthy of their job should be sympathetic. If you're not happy with the outcome, wait two weeks. Go back to the GP and say that you're concerned your problem hasn't been fully explored. Tell the GP that you need help to develop a plan you're all happy with. Actually you're little boy sounds pretty normal, and I bet in 6 months he'll be bursting with words. But it's never nice to worry. I hope everything gets easier for you soon. xx

But if you have to add a liquid tablet, or a special sachet for stained laundry, then what's the point really??? You might as well just be washing your worn or lightly soiled clothes in a long warm wash w/o any detergent, soapnuts, sachets, or ecoballs. It would probably be just as effective. A long plain warm wash will clean most day-to-day grime. And as others observe, stained laundry will require separate extra attention anyway. I've always been intrigued by ecoball, but I remain a skeptic.

Do they also have shoes for toddlers?

removal of chocolate ice cream stains?
Saffron replied to nikkinuts's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Did you try a specialty stain remover like Dr Beckmann's 'Stain Devils'. This brand makes specially formulated stain removers for different types of stain. Look for the one that says on the lable that it treats chocolate. Chocolate is a complex stain. It's a mix of oil and protein. You need to emulsify the oil, then dissolve the protein. Use only tepid water when treating this stain. Water that is too hot will 'set' a protein stain. As a homemade stain remover, try first rubbing the stain directly with fabric conditioner liquid to emulsify the oil. Next, wash the conditioner out of the fabric by hand with some washing-up liquid applied to the stain. Rinse the fabric thoroughly. Treat the remaining stain directly with a small amount of biological laundry liquid, and then soak it for some time. Finally wash the garment in the machine as per the label's instructions, but using only tepid water. xx -
I agree, try dioralyte, or diluted juice. And definitely try Calpol (paracetamol). You can alternate it with children's Neurofen (ibuprofen). Teething can be very painful for some babies. Having a cold on top is miserable. The diarrhoea is probably the cold virus working its way through Baby's little system. Try giving Baby a cool bath 2-3 times a day. Keep it short and gentle. Offer warm milk or water afterwards. Then cuddles and quiet time. When you give the eye drops, try to bring them briefly to body temp by keeping them in your bra or pocket for a few minutes. Babies don't generally like a cold drop in the eye. (Incidentally, the same is true for pets.) If nothing has improved in 5-7 days, see your GP again. xx

Opinions seem divided on whether/not to leave children unattended, e.g. what age / how long. http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?29,672999 I don't think personally I'd feel comfortable leaving my toddler in a car with a baby. She's not far off from being able to houdidni her way out of the carseat, I fear. I'm pretty sure there's a pay-at-the-pump place in Lewisham, but surely there's one closer to ED too?

GP's at Forest Hill Rd surgery
Saffron replied to intexasatthe moment's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I didn't find Dr Graham helpful. It might have been a clash of personalities. It's important that you're able to communicate well with your GP and vice versa. We definitely weren't 'on the same page'. But if you're happy with the service you receive that's the main thing that matters.
