  1. To add, you will be automatically be added to the waiting list of any primary school on your list above the school you have been offered. You can also ask to go onto the waiting list of schools you didn't originally apply to. Renata
  2. 100% of Southwark's on-time primary school applicants have been offered a place for September 2012 - the same as last year A Total of 3,468 applications were received, 231 more applicants than last year 78% (2,692) received a first preference school, slightly lower than last year's 79% 94% (3,269) received one of their six preferences, the same as last year 6% (198) families did not get any of their preferences, so were allocated a school. Note that some families only gave one preference. 61% (2110) of applications were online - compared to 50% last year 'bulge' classes are being created at 9 primary schools to meet demand. Bessemer, Bellenden, Ivydale, Albion, Charles Dickens, Grange, Robert Browning, Langbourne and John Donne. Parents wanting advice can contact admissions officer Liam White 0207 525 5211 or [email protected] or go to the drop-in sessions on 19th-20th and 25th-27th April at Cator St. 9.30-12.30 and 13.13-15.30 except the 26th which is an 11am start. Renata
  3. To confirm, if you applied online, you can access the results of your application today, the letters are going out by post today and therefore those of you who applied by post should hear tomorrow. If your email says you haven't been successful (this is a computer generated email), it means you didn't get a place at one of your chosen schools. You should receive a letter in the post with the name of the school you have been allocated. If you need assistance following the allocation, please contact me (email is best) or one of the other councillors or Liam White the School Preference Advisor, [email protected] Good Luck, Renata
  4. Both Langbourne and Goodrich Primary schools have recently been assessed as Good schools by Ofsted :)-D. The Goodrich report is not yet on the Ofsted website, the link to the Langbourne one is below: Langbourne well done to staff, pupils and parents at both schools, Renata
  5. To confirm this is now all done and dusted (well until the next time the roundabout gets damaged!) Renata
  6. Unfortunately, I was away for a few days and missed the opening. I am looking forward to go and see the completed project over the next few days. Thanks to the Friends of PR Park and the organising committee for your hard work. The site originally contained greenhouses for the Park that were dismantled in the 70s and it was then used as a storage area. For several years the FOPRP have been working hard to bring this site back into the public domain as a wildlife garden. The project was funded by the Council's Cleaner, Greener, Safer fund and a big Lottery Fund Grant that we supported. The site has wheelchair friendly paths and even beehives! If you want to help out on the monthly workday, contact the Friends on [email protected]. Renata
  7. Brilliant! >:D
  8. A meeting was held on site with the contractor and representatives from London Transport to finalise the timings of the works and to discuss the appropriate traffic management. The works will now commence on Tuesday 10 April and should be completed within 3-4 days dependent on weather (up to Sunday 15th if weather is poor). This is at the suggestion of London Transport due to the Easter school break and the perceived lower demand on their services. A further advantage of this way of working is that the working time will be increased as there will be no need to remove and replace the required temporary road closures each day. The traffic management will comprise three way traffic lights on the roundabout with temporary road closures of Spurling Road (two way access only from Crawthew Grove), Tintagel Crescent (access only from Elsie Road) and the minor East Dulwich Road (access only from Adys Road). It is appreciated that there may be some significant traffic disruption during the works. Consequently, there will be signage erected well in advance of the work start date, and a letter advising residents and businesses of the work proposals is going out within the next few days. Renata
  9. I spoke to Mark Newell yesterday. The dog involved in this case is to be muzzled. One thing to be aware of is that the dog involved in this incident came from a large litter and all it's littermates live locally, with different owners. This means that even if you seen another dog that looks the same, it may not be the same dog but a sibling. There have been other dog-on-dog attacks in the area eg one a few weeks ago in Nunhead Cemetery. Mark has asked that any attacks are reported both to him and to the police. Renata
  10. Hi I think the church is called St Thomas More. The primary school in ED is called St Anthony's. I've found this webpage church Renata
  11. Both Athenlay (based on football grounds next to Harris Girl's just to the south of Peckham Rye Park)and Caribb (based in Peckham Rye Park) football clubs cater for this age group. Details of football clubs in Southwark can be found here football clubs Good luck with the move, Renata
  12. Coram Fields is great for this age group. It's on Guilford St. Take drinks in case the Cafe isn't open while you're there. Also buckets and spades for the sand play area if you can (there are some but never enough to go round!). Renata
  13. Hi Fuzzyboots, I am truly sorry to hear about the vicious attack and death of Morp:(h. Please do report it to Mark Newell and to the police. Renata
  14. Thanks for flagging that up Katgood, Heber primary well done Heber!:)-D Renata
  15. Hi Monkey, I think that since St Anthony's bulged and then expanded to 2 forms and with William of York (Lewisham Catholic, over the hill) being close by too, there is a slight excess of Catholic places in the area (last year there were 180 in a small area). As a consequence, I believe that St Francesca Cabrini has taken a few non-Catholics in the last 2 years. Dependant on the no of Catholics and if they chose to apply to Catholic Schools or not, you have a chance with that one. Your chances would be increased if you or partner are C of E or Orthodox etc. I don't think St Anthony's has taken any non-Catholics recently. Renata
  16. Just to let parents know, if you want to apply to Deptford Green or any other out of borough school, you will need to put in a late application via Southwark. There are posts about Deptford Green on other threads in the Family room. Renata
  17. Hi ????, children with statements of SEN usually have priority when it comes to allocation of school places (Academies set their own admissions policy, but statemented children usually have priority there too). Please email me if you want me to look into this for you, Renata
  18. St Anthony's recently had a full inspection and was rated as a good school by Ofsted: St Anthony's Following it's 2009 "good" rating by Ofsted St Francesca Cabrini had an interim inspection by Ofsted and as it's still doing well, isn't to be inspected for a while. St Francesca Cabrini Well done to both schools :)-D Renata
  19. Haberdasher's Aske, Hatcham, just over the border in LB Lewisham are planning to open a English/German biligual Free School next year (English in the morning, German in the afternoon). As this quite unusual and a new school, I have no idea what the catchment will be like! Renata
  20. HI Blueskies, going from last year you are probably looking at St Francesca Cabrini rather than St Anthony's if you want a Catholic primary, unless there is a year of low sibling numbers. In terms of community schools, Fairlawn. All three of these schools have been rated good or better by Ofsted and have SATs results in the 90s. Renata
  21. Leane, it was the right thing for you to report this incident to the police. Renata
  22. The consultation closes today, it's your chance to make your opinion heard! thanks Renata :)
  23. Hi FatherJack, your friend should have received a letter by post on Friday 2nd March with a school offer. The email implies that they weren't successful in obtaining a school that they applied for. Please ask them to contact me with their address details, child's name and DOB and schools applied for and I will investigate it tomorrow. It's important that this is sorted out quickly as the first round responses need to be in by the end of the week. Renata
  24. Virgo Fidelis is fee paying. There is St Joseph's, and depending where you are exactly, St Francesca Cabrini in Honor Oak or St William of York, Forest Hill. Renata
  25. Hi FatherJack, firstly, is your friend a Southwark resident? secondly, did they apply on time? Did they receive a letter saying they hadn't got a school place offered? The email may be the one that is sent out in the Londonwide process. They may have not been successful in obtaining a place at a school on their CAF form, but all on-time Southwark applicants were offered a secondary school place this year. Renata
