  1. Both mine have had the BCG jab in their upper arms - eldest when she was 8 months and the scar oozed and did all sorts of interesting things and didn't heal for a good 6 months. My youngest was much younger at 4 months old and the injection site healed very quickly. Living in a high risk area coupled with the fact that we also previously lived in China was reason alone for us to have them. I'm pretty the jab is always given in the upper arm as a matter of consistency. Good luck with your decision.
  2. Despite having both of my children privately, I was surprised to have a HV visit me at all. She was absolutely lovely and was also the same for both children (I called her the second time because I wanted her again). She also kept in touch to do the childrens' 8 month, 2 year, etc, review, was very supportive/interested with breastfeeding issues, children's development, our move abroad (!) and got back to me with any questions I had about jabs and all the other crazy questions I had in the early days of baby no 1. Am happy to pass on her details if you're allowed to request certain ones.
  3. Oh I hope so as I would! Sorry, forgot to add my winky smiley ????, it was tongue in cheek!
  4. Agree with Stuey, maybe not on the bus, but fat people definitely should pay extra on airplanes - excess baggage and all.
  5. Hi Belle, My eldest had night terrors which coincided with her being tired. These began EXACTLY when she started nursery school (no more day time naps), got rid of the dummy (for nursery school), was potty trained (for nursery school) and had a 2 month old sibling that obviously changed a few things in the household. It was all the changes she was going through coupled with the stress of it all and being over tired. We used to have to take her out in the garden and look at the stars and the cold air would wake her up. It was pretty distressing because she used to scream her head off and look straight through me as if I wasn't even there. As things adjusted and she got used to school, sister, etc, they tapered off and eventually stopped (4 months or so). Good luck to you and your little one. Best, -C
  6. Just turned 40 a few months ago. My favourite age so far, but then I have nice skin!
  7. I agree with SteveT that Piazza Navona is a great area to be near. We stay at the Hotel Rafael when we go (pre and post kids). Nice hotel and nice, friendly staff. Behind the hotel is a great antiquing area dotted around with restaurants and enotecas if your daughter likes that sort of thing. Also you are a short stroll across the Tiber to the Vatican should anyone need to repent! Obviously one should see the Coliseum (not near to P. Navona but nice long walk or taxi ride away), the Pantheon (short walk from P. Navona), the Spanish Steps (great shopping area and people watching area), and one of course should also throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain. The weather won't be boiling hot this time of year and the crowds hopefully have abated a bit.
  8. My GP once said to me that you should know roughly how many breaths your baby takes in a minute when they are not sick. Then when they are ill and their breathing becomes very quick (I think it was more than 60/min), shallow or are struggling it would be 'doctor-worthy' and you would know based on what their normal breathing was like. But also use your own instincts as a mother when you feel something is not right no matter how irrelevant you might think it is. School started this week and my eldest already has a running nose. Hurray, here we all go again! Hope your little one (and you) is/are feeling better soon. Best, -C
  9. Nighty night all. -C x
  10. I got the chance to meet him once in LA. Very nice man indeed.
  11. Have a lovely two weeks ladies, babies and dads.... Happy half term as well. Best, -C x
  12. Herne Hill School also has a Christmas Fair on Friday, 27 November. Not sure if they have all their vendors yet as space is limited, but PM me if you need details.
  13. I noticed that as well. I think it was recently when a bendy-bus was stuck on the roundabout - the driver didn't cut the corner sharply enough and his backside and wheels sort of tore through some of those bricks.
  14. So the plan - be nice and quite on the first day or two and when Mark is well entrenched in his holiday, pop up on one of the other forums and say hello. Will he really be checking??
  15. Louisa Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > candj, I am impressed you can too stomach that > ridiculously long journey! It is ridiculously long, but not so bad in business. ;-) Best, -C

I've stomached the trip to HK many times if only because it indeed has some of the best airport shopping in the world (except maybe for Bahrain). ;-)
  17. Okay I'll bite. Why are they annoying to you Louisa if they are just going about their business patronising local cafes, shops, etc with other friends? NCR is a slightly nicer road to sit on as it has less traffic than LL and nice selection of useful shops, ie, green grocer, cafe (eeeeek, kid-friendly), chemist. You don't want to turn this into a 'yummyist' rant, but you already have. Best, -C
  18. We could always use the west dulwich forum. It needs a little help as it is always soooo quiet there.
  19. Power is actually lower in the US at 120v than here so you won't blow your computer up, it might just take longer to charge.
  20. Jimmy Burns is the contact we used for a kids birthday party. If you go inside the hall you can usually find him behind the bar serving drinks. I believe it was about ?75 for two hours on a Sunday. Hope this helps, -C
  21. Agree with Buggie's advice with the addition that perhaps a few drops of Olbas oil on a tissue near to her, but out of her reach is good or you can get the plug-ins that work well. I believe you can also use the Vick's rub on their chests, but not sure how old your little one is. There was a time that Medised was usable on children as young as 3 months old and it was great because as a decongestant it also had the side effect of making them drowsy and sleep well, but I think parents got carried away and the age group was changed to 24 months. Hope your little one feels better. Best, -C
  22. Ditto what ???? said about Kissinger! Animal. Obama is apparently donating the money to charity.
  23. There is the Dulwich Riding School on Dulwich Common that offers lessons for children/teenagers. You then have access to ride on the horse trail in Dulwich Park which would be lovely. Edited to add, there are many swimming pools in and around the ED area that your teens can use ie, Brockwell Lido (nice outdoor pool), Beckenham Spa, and the ED Baths/Fusion Gym which is currently refurbishing their swimming pool to be ready by next summer.
