  1. My 18-month-old son has had conjunctivitis for six days. The doctor gave us a some eye drops on day one and said it should clear up by day four, but it's still lingering. How long does it usually last for? Just wondering at what stage I should contact the doctor again. It's not really bothering my son, just when he can't open his eyes in the morning. Thanks!
  2. I agree that a drop-in, regular Cinema would be more popular. The indoor market behind Cafe Nero would make a great Cinema. It doesn't seem very successful as a market
  3. A friend mentioned hearing about a nursery/creche near the Horniman Museum where you can drop your child off for just a couple of hours at a time. This would really suit me as a full-time mother of a 15 month-year-old for those times when I just can't take him with me to the dentist or need to get other stuff done etc. Does anyone know where this place is, or of any others locally? Many thanks
  4. I called Fairlawn a few months ago and was told that Mundania, Shelbury etc are too far away for their catchment area now. Though I also heard from someone that a little boy from one of those roads got in this year, so who knows...
  5. I am just wondering what Ivydale School is like these days, and what direction it is going in. I've read the 2008 Ofsted report, which was so-so but said that the school had improved a lot over the previous 2 years. It seemed to think that it didn't cater very well for children who were at the academically more able end of the spectrum (of course, my child may not be 'more able', but you have to be hopeful as a parent, don't you!). We are near Barry Road now, but are thinking of moving to the roads around Homestall/Mundania/Shelbury etc, or near to Ivydale Rd, which is why I'm wondering about Ivydale School. (Are Shelbury, Homestall etc near enough for kids living there to be offered a place?). Our son won't be applying for a school for 3 years, but we don't intend to move again before then so want to make sure we are confident that the nearest school is good (though of course I understand that schools can improve or deteriorate a lot in 3 years). Many thanks for any help you can offer.
  6. Tuesday or Wednesday mornings would be good for us. Thursday mornings has Sparkle Music, the Mum & Baby Pilates at Push, and Baby Sensory in Honor Oak already as options.
  7. I've just started reading a book called 'The Truth about Vaccines' by the GP who campaigned for the removal of mercury from vaccines given to infants (Dr Richard Halvorsen). So far I've found it very informative. Incidentally, he is not anti-vaccine but suggests that parents like myself who have a number of autistic family members may want to consider delaying starting vaccinations until a baby is 3 months-old, and spreading them out over a longer period of a few months.
  8. I'm just wondering which nurseries have a good reputation round here. Are there any that I should be thinking about putting my baby's name down for way in advance? Also, I haven't got my head around how all this works, but I believe there are some state nurseries in ED? Are they any good and do they work out significantly cheaper than private nurseries (sorry - I'm completely ignorant about all this but am I right in thinking you get a bit of financial help from the government with private nurseries anyway - tax credits or something like that?) Thanks!
  9. I go in that direction a lot to see relatives and Clapham Junction to Wandsworth is always a nightmare. Going via the A3 instead of Richmond, as Jeremy suggests, is a good idea. If you want to avoid Wandsworth, sometimes it's faster to head to the Embankment instead and drive via Hammersmith up the dual carraigeway to Richmond and onwards. You have to make a judgment call as to which is going to be more trafficky.
  10. I don't understand why I was unaware of these recent meetings... I attended the meeting last year (in late summer I think) at the Girls' school, put my name down on EDGE's list, wrote to Tessa Jowell and wrote a letter to the planning committee spelling out my concerns about the plans. What do you have to do to find out/get invited to these meetings???
  11. Fantastic!!! My boyfriend and I have been wishing that a Vietnamese would open up here ever since we moved to East Dulwich. We spent a year going around the world recently, and the food in Vietnam was my favourite by far (with Japan a close second). I love all the fresh herbs and delicious soups. Great news!
  12. My boyfriend heard two girls on the top of the 176 bus saying that a Strada is going to open in the empty shop next to White Stuff. Anyone know if that's true. Not mad about Strada particularly, but haven't found anywhere in East Dulwich that does decent pizza. Does anyone know of a decent pizza delivery place by the way? Thanks
  13. Louisa, where is the Vietnamese on Bellenden Road? I've never noticed it and I loooove Vietnamese food.
  14. Thanks everyone
  15. Could anyone tell me where the nearest dumps are? I need to get rid of some rubble. I've had a look on Southwark's website and am none the wiser... A colleague thinks there's on on Rosendale Road somewhere... I live on Peckham Rye
  16. Anyone know of any good Ashtanga Yoga classes in (or near) East Dulwich? Thanks
  17. Has anyone heard anything about the big derelict school building on Peckham Rye near to the end of Friern Road? I'm moving into the block next door and wondered if the school is going to be developed. I called Southwark Planning dept, but they were a bit clueless.
