That was not the Festival, but a kind of 'benefit' gig. All of those bands, plus another 4 or so will be performing on Festival day, which is on August 31st. So can you jump in and have a board, or not? It is non-intrusive, costs you absolutely nothing, and will help with funding. Not an appeal for money, just an appeal for local support. As a part of this year's fund raising prpogramme, apart from grants from Southwark's Community Awards fund and (hopefully) the Arts Council), we are trying to encourage local estate agents to support the Festival with funding. The obvious pay-off for the 'bidding' estate agent would be the erection of their branded boards advertising the festival, posted around the area. Many of the Golf Clubs members will be volunteering to support this activity, as a way of supporting the Festival, which will be in its 4th year this year. I am reaching out to the East Dulwich community for any residents who would like to join us in supportin the festival by having a board erected for the month of August. Obviously, privacy is essential, so please PM me with your address details if you would like to help. Also, reply to theis thread with the simple response, 'I'm in' to keep the thread lively and near the top of the Lounge listings. I know that East Dulwich is packed with musicians, music lovers, and supporters of the arts, and we wasnt to keep the Aquarius Festival running and improving year on year, so the additional funding is essential for our ongoing development. At the end of the day your involvement will cost you nothing, will help to contribute significantly to a local Community festival (on Saturday August 31st), and the estate agent will get a major splash of local promotion as a reward for their investment. Hopefully we'll see many of you there, and also at our 'Festival Primer' tomorrow - see 'What's on in ED' thread for more about that. This is a call for help that involves no additional cost or intrusion. As a part of our fundraisng for Aquarius Festival this year, we have approached a number of estate agents in East Dulwich. To reward them for sponsoring/investing in the Festival, they would like to put up boards around the area that serve as advertising for them, and also advertisning for the festival. The boards would go up at the beginning of August, and the festival is at the end of August, on Saturday 31st. Are there any Aquarius Festival fans out there who would volunteer to have a board outside their house for just a month? The greater the response to this, the better the funding for the Festival, and, consequently, the event will get better and better year on year. At the end of the day your support will be entirely free, and non-intrusive, but would also be helping to raise the funds we need to keep Aquarius Festival running as the Biggest Little Festival in London. I have attached a running order for this year's event, which just demonstrates what a feast of music of all genres we are providing, for the local community to enjoy, in a safe, secure and quite stunning environment. This is a simple call for help that involves no additional cost or intrusion. As a part of our fund-raisng for Aquarius Festival this year, we have approached a number of estate agents in East Dulwich. If you've got any energy after the afternoon and evening's live music, you could mosey on down to the Rose to watch the live boxing on the big screen afterwards. A great local pub, doing the very best for the local community.

Just listened to two who Slapped John CDs/albums, and they are like a cross between Pink Floyd and the Pet Shop Boys - and eclectic sound indeed! Steve Boltz is a great performer on his own or with his amazing band, the New White Trash. Louis Vann Johnson is capturing all sorts of music industry attention for his outrageous talent as a musician, singer and songwriter. Country Dirt are a breath of country bluegrass air, with the bewitching Marriane fronting the band. Bruise are one of the best live acts you'll see. Guaranteed. Don't waste your time thinking about what to do on Saturday 25th. Spend it wisely at Aquarius Golf Club.

A brief bit of detail about who Slapped John. Really looking forward to this set - the opening set on the hall stage. Having already recorded 2 albums under the name Who Slapped John, singer/ songwriter Allan Evans has turned his hand to performing the material with this recently formed band, and they?re already making waves with their performances. Anyone familiar with Who Slapped John will know that the music is eclectic to say the least, and this is what an audience can expect from a live performance from the band. Although the material covers a whole spectrum of musical genres, from country to funk to acoustic rock, it is all held together by Evans?s songwriting sensibility..strong melodies complimented by interesting musical passages.

Every year I make a hamper for my Ma & Pa with a visit to Greens (Wines & Spirits) Lordship Lane Deli (all kinds of stuff) and also Franklins Deli in case there's anything really interesting. Usually my finished hamper is around a quarter of the price of a commercial/pre-pack, and the shopping adventure is a bit of a hoot, too, involving often thoughtful selection of small but quite costly items that you would only ever buy at this time of year. Now my folks are in their 80's, this actually gives them a buzz on Christmas day opening up a box of mystery delicacies. If it weren't for Lordship Lane, this would never have become such a fun holiday ritual, which I can firmly recommend to anyone stuck for a gift for their parents. Get Vocal & Shop Local!!

I had no idea there was a section for witches!!! Interestingly, here's another excerpt from the internet's vast library of Witch Bottle information. Modern-Witch-Bottles Very generally speaking, the modern day Witch-bottles are very similar to historical Witch-bottles in their basic structure, even though their intended purpose has changed. The most common purpose for constructing a Witch-bottle today is capturing negative energies targeted at the constructor of the bottle, her family or her home. Even though some bottles are "mirroring" in nature, they aren't normally built to cause agony to the sender of negative energy/caster of curses. Some Witch-bottles are intended to change negative energy into positive one and then release it into the surrounding area. This kind of bottles could be classified as "guard and protect"-bottles. Just a shot in the dark!

A little time on my hands has revealed an interesting potential avenue: Witch Bottles. Commonly used in the 16th and 17th Century as a spell to attract and trap negative energy. The bottles are usually used by people who are frightened of or feel threatened by the 'black arts'. Usually they also contain symbolic body waste, like hair, navel fluff and fingernails. Not sure if anyone's had a close enough look to see if that kind of thing is in there. The sheer volume of the 'Witch Bottles of East Dulwich' as I now like to think of them, could be indicative of an individual or group who are somehow playing with dark forces, or involve someone who believes his wife to be a witch, and is resorting to the old craft. Here is an excerpt from an Old Bailey record from 1682, which documents a husband, believing his wife to be a victim of witchcraft, being advised to: "take a quart of your Wive's urine, the paring of her Nails, some of her Hair, and such like, and boyl them well in a Pipkin." The Witches of Dulwich are at it again!!

There are notoces on a number of trees in the park that are being cut down, including one on the Forest Hill Road entrance opposite the boys school. I suppose the amount of water was affecting the tree.

I seem to recall when a dog was unfortunately killed by a car on Marmora Road that the idea of blocking roads in and around Scutari Road was raised. The fear was that it would simply force traffic to use Mundania/Shelbury/Dovedale as an alternative. The routing in Honor Oak Park is a definite example of how this can be done well, so there is a great local example to be considered.

If you get yourself a freeview HD box, (I bought mine from Amazon, massively discounted for just ?40.00 or so) you can also get BBC HD (2 channels), plus ITV & Channel 4 in HD. Makes sense, if you have a 1080p or 720p TV. You may need a 'proper' digital aerial to support the signal though. Another local option is to go for a BT Infinity 2 broadband account, and get the BT Vision package, which includes countless additional free on demand TV channels, including the best of american (HBO, ABC, National Geographic, Comedy Central) plus free HD movies. I know they do an introductory deal, but since switching from Sky many years ago, I cannot believe the value and variety that BT Vision brings for just ?14.00 per month (compared with ?50.00++ for Sky). I really have nothing to do with BT, but have been super impressed with the entire Broadband/TV package, with outrageous download & upload speeds, and would heartily recommend it over Sky, unless you are an avid sports viewer. If you want live HD, you still need the HD Freeview box.
