  1. Polmoche, you are entitled to your views but at the same time, other parents are entitled to theirs. I didn't say the NHS should license anything, I said that these clinics are using unlicensed medication. These parents are paying their taxs for the NHS also, and if they want to pay extra to have the jabs as singles, or to space them out, they should be allowed.
  2. There is supposed to be a loophole that allows these clinic to sell unlicensed medication but I presume there would be no fall back if anything goes wrong as the NHS does not hold any information on these private clinics and do not recommend them. A bit like someone setting up a clinic in Harley Street with no formal qualifications and offering cosmetic surgery and teeth bleaching!
  3. This is from the NHS website: There is no source of single licensed vaccines in this country and those that are being offered privately are unlicensed - which means that there is no British testing on their safety and efficacy. http://www.immunisation.nhs.uk That is what I mean about choices. I know of people going to France in order to get the jabs as singles for their babies. I can understand people thinking they are crazy, we get the jabs for free on the NHS and so on but the point is, people like choices, there will always be people who don't want to be told what and how to do things and there will be people who are dubious about the vaccines and therefore will want an alternative and an option should be offered so that parents do not opt out altogether thus leaving their children at risk. I don't see anything wrong with using homeopathy before the immunisations in order to lessen the reactions to them, people on here might not believe in it but thousands do and if they say it works for them, who are we to disapprove that? After all how many of us have had drugs that have been tested in labs and issued to us by our GPs that has not worked on us? I know I have! So if someone wants to use herbals, homeopathy to try and lessen the reactions of their jabs then good for them! Others use Calpol, some use homeopathy.
  4. Did you have a mamas and papas cot to go with the mattress as the sizes on their website is different to the cot I have and the mattress size. Molly, Mothercare has gone downhill in the quality of their products, I bought some maternity wear and baby clothes, they were thin and fell apart after a couple of washes, for the price they charge I would expect a bit more. I have foam mattress for the crib from Mothercare and it just looks so cheap even though it is not and the mattress that came with the cot has the springs nearly ready to pop out and it is an expensive one. I prefer Jojo's quality and they fit properly also!
  5. I have checked online on the NHS website and it says the jabs cannot be offered separately and any private clinic offering the jabs as singles are not licensed, well I am not going to go to a clinic that is not licensed! My son had his first jabs and reacted badly, so I am just wary about the next lot and the third lot which is three injections... So is Skip talking about Homeopathy to limit the reaction to the jabs or Homeopathy instead of the jabs?
  6. I had flu for the first time ever when I became pregnant, it was absolutely and utterly awful. I ended up in hospital. BUT I would not take the swine flu jab simply because it is too new, I don't want to take that risk and unless I was out and about mixing with lots of people, commuting etc I would not take it. Only you can make that decision.
  7. There does not seems to be private clinic who offer the jabs separately. I have no problems paying for it, but according to the NHS website, these clinics are not licensed and so on. I want my son to have his jabs but at a pace that I feel comfortable with in order not to compromise his immune system since he might inherit a rubbish one like mine and I don't want it to trigger off psoriasis in him so I prefer to not overload his system but as I said, in the UK it does not look like we have any choices at all, that is my issue, we should have some choices.
  8. You can never ever tell. When you become pregnant, you become public property and everyone thinks it is ok to tell you that your baby will be late, early, that you are big, small, that its' a boy and girl...I say, ignore them all!
  9. A lot of parents use homeopathy before immunising to limit the reactions to immunisations, maybe that is what Skip means? Also we don't have much choice because I cannot find anything with regards to splitting the 5 in 1 etc injections, it seems to be all or nothing leaving some parents to opt for nothing. I do think parents should be able to spilt the jabs if they're worried about overloading their babies immune system such in my case as my immune system is compromised and judging by the way my son reacts to treatment in hospital and his jabs, it was too much for him. The USA has a catch up schedule for parents who space out the jabs or start the jabs when their babies are slightly older, I cannot find any information for the UK version online leaving me to believe we don't get any choices, can someone prove me wrong?
  10. The bottom line is that more and more parents want options. If we don?t provide them with options they are comfortable with, more parents will opt out of vaccines altogether. We will then see more and more disease fatalities and complications.
  11. I second what antijen says!
  12. There is nothing wrong with going out at all, No one is disputing that, but at nine days old, I would not have wanted to go out without my son even if I could, I wanted to bask in motherhood and enjoy being with him. The newborn stage goes so quick. Even now, he is 10 weeks old and I don't want to leave him with anyone and I have all my family close by and they are fantastic but I enjoy being with him so much that the thought of leaving him with someone has not entered my head as I take him out with me. I am sure in time I will leave him with my family whilst I go out but for now no and certainly not when he was barely two weeks old. I have spent years clubbing it with the girls and drinking that I didn't feel I needed to do that when he was 9 days old. I was too busy getting to know him and feeding him non stop. Not to mention trying to wee without crying!
  13. Thanks for that Pickle, I checked the website but it does not seems to do it in the size I require, their sizing is quite different! Lorraine, I was actually looking at the purflo and was going to get it after reading about it but then I decided against it as Mr Heidihi won't sleep in a gro/sleeping bag at all and the purflo works better if they are in a sleeping bag. I did also like the idea of the naturalmat but I want to hear from people who have used them as I don't believe in reviews ( I always think they are the business people themselves posting!) it would be nice to have someone recommend a good mattress so I don't want to make an expensive mistake. Amazing how having a baby can make us first time parents ummmm and ahhh over simple basic things like a mattress!
  14. I have been given a very lovely cotbed but I need to replace the mattress ( which was an expensive one from Mothercare and has already shown signs of damage after just one year!). I am unsure which is the best mattress to get because the ones from Mothercare does not seems to last and I want a safe long lasting mattress for my son since the cot converts into a bed also. He likes to sleep on his tummy also so it needs to be firm. Does have anyone have any personal experience of a good mattress for their little ones? Thanking you in advance.
  15. My health visitor just phoned up out of the blue and said she was on her way up! I was quite surprised as I was not expecting that, I was expecting a letter and an appointment date. She came up, chatted lots, I wear a breast feeding apron as I am a bit shy when it comes to breast feeding and she told me am I only wearing it because she is there? I said 'No. I wear it regardless' I did think it was weird she asked that because it is none of her business whether I want her to see my boobs or not. I have only ever been to the clinic once because my son was ill, my doctor said he was fine ( but has since apologised to me for what happened after) my HV just laughed at me and said my son had wind when I said to her that I was concerned about him because of his cries, the rash of his skin and so on. But she actually LAUGHED at me and just wrote he had wind in the red book, well, I took him to Kings A&E and good thing I did because he was seriously ill with an infection, was in horrible pain and very nearly died. We spent quite a few days in the hospital overnight, it was not nice and I felt such a bad mummy that I didn't take him to the hospital straight away because I listened to my doctor and HV even though I knew something was not right. Since then I have found it hard to go to the clinic. I shall be going on Tuesday as I am curious to know how much he weighs and I shall certainly be telling the HV what happened to my son after she laughed at us and dismissed him as having wind.
  16. I think that is too soon personally but alas that is my view . My son is 9 weeks and I am still not ready to part company with him yet. When he was 10 days old, I could barely walk never mind go to a concert and a bar!
  17. I am also exclusively breastfeeding. My son won't allow me to feed him from a bottle, he fusses and cries non stop if I do try. He will let others feed him ( though he still fusses at the beginning) but despite finishing the bottle he will then want my boobs! ( I think it is a comfort thing too). My son is fine with closer to nature teats, he is not too keen on the breast flow teats. I have a few breast flow bottles that have not been used if you want to try one of them to see if it works? Edited to say that it is meant to be helpful not to be in the room whilst your husband is feeding him.
  18. Thanks for that read Redjam!
  19. These days our eggs tend to be salmonella free, especially the lion eggs. I ate peanuts, Mr Whippy, Mayo, Sushi and the rest througout pregnancy and my baby boy is absolutely fine! I think they put these guidelines so we don't go OTT on them especially since we have cravings and can eat LOADS of the stuff, but I still ate whatever I wanted. I would not worry about it.
  20. My son sleeps on his tummy, it is the only way he will sleep all night. He has busy legs, hands and arms, so he keeps waking himself up when he sleeps on his back and he will not sleep in a grobag and hates being swaddled. He also brings up milk a lot and chokes when he is on his back. I think as long as you don't smoke around babies ( and let's face it, years ago people were smoking around babies all the time) as long as there are no obstructions, and you have a good mattress ( one that does not have chemicals etc) so that when baby is breathing, fresh air is being circulated, and as long as the room is not hot so baby overheats, there should not be any problems. You could always get a monitor to be on the safe side. The rate of SIDS is not even anywhere close to 1% for a tummy sleeping baby. Even though the rate has dropped since BTS, it was never high in the first place. As a matter of fact in its 1992 statement on sleep position it was actually said that all parents should keep in mind that SIDS is EXTREMELY RARE no matter how the baby sleeps. This might help: http://www.askdrsears.com/faq/sl10.asp http://www.babble.com/content/articles/columns/parentaladvisory/Stomach-Sleeper/ I don't panic at all, I think we are nannied too much by the state, everything seems to be bad for us and the baby. I spoke to my doctor about this also and he stated that the cases of SIDs he knows, the babies were actually on their backs and he said we all have favourite sleeping positions and my son obviously likes his back. He has great head control also and can easily move his head side to side. He is also in the bedroom with me.
  21. Jam daughter got into reception, she applied a few weeks before term started. Though her daughter is not due to start until January.
  22. Thank you so much everyone, I will keep hold of the Ergo and see if I can get a Beco second hand!
  23. Sorry, I meant it seems to be a waste of money in that I got the Ergo in order to use it from birth and as he does not like the infant insert because his feet is hanging out, it seems pointless to keep it until he is three months etc as i need a sling now. I wanted to know if it was safe to put his feet inside the ergo in a squat spread position with the infant insert so that I can still use it? thanks.
  24. I have a baby bjorn which my baby seems to like, but in which I am dubious to use because of the issues surrounding the lack of support on the baby's spine. I also have an ergo baby carrier after reading lots of reviews about it on here and elsewhere. As my son is coming up to three weeks old I also purchased the infant insert so I can use it straight away, however he really hates being in the sling position, that is, being swaddled in the insert and having his feet out by the side, he cries and does not look comfortable, is it possible to put his feet INSIDE the carrier, i did this and he liked this but I didn't carry him like this because online it said the feet must be put to the side to support his spine but as he does not like this position it seems like the Ergos is a waste of money. I have now come across the Beco carrier which seems more ideal as the baby's feet are inside the carrier with the aid of the insert and this would suit my baby but it is rather expensive and I already have a brand new ergo I cannot afford to buy the Beco, any advice? Thank you.
  25. If I ever have another baby I have to have a C section because of the scarring I will get down there, to be honest, after seeing my best friend who had her baby last week recover amazingly after her c section, I am jealous! She had a major op but seems to be coming on in leaps and bounds and she actually feels sorry for me!!
