  1. I'm confused, the 172 currently does not go anywhere near East Dulwich according to TFLs service map http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/gettingaround/maps/buses/?r=172
  2. of course all we need is for a few consecutive empty units to appear then we can have our holy grail a big fantastic waitrose, assuming they were not scared off by the brick through the palmerston during "the ED riots" ;-) (I apologise I couldn't resist, I'll now run a mile!)

  4. so why is it that extending this route to New Cross seems to have little impact whereas to extend the 63 to honor oak oark station is apparently asking the world?
  5. and vice cersa, using this same line you can get to LB from PR/DH
  6. I take it you've seen this site which details a UFO sighting over the HErne? http://www.theufochronicles.com/2008/08/more-ufo-sightings-reported.html
  7. I'll keep my opinions about whether or not I agree to myself, but I do question your business model. ED is mostly families so I cant imagine there is much of a demand for lapdancing club in ED. I think you would probably end up out of business pretty quickly. However the more I type the more I question why I am responding, this is obvioulsy a wind up...like anyone would come to ED and think "I know whats missing... a lapdancing club!" Also you better be sure not to take any of the buildings earmarked for a "potential" waitrose or M&S simply food, that would really wind up the forum ;-)
  8. If you are having slow speeds in many cases this is due to Wi-Fi interference. The first thing I would do is plug your computer directly into the Ethernet out of your modem and switch off the Wi-Fi on your computer. If you find your speed is still slow then you have a genuinely slow connection which you should contact Virgin about. If however you find its a lot faster its likely that your home is suffering from a lot of Wi-Fi interference. This is because the frequency which many routers use (2.4Ghz) is very crowded as its also used by home TV senders, DECT phones and even some microwaves will interfere. Have a look at the settings on your router and see if its possible to switch it onto 5Ghz, this frequency is generally less crowded and therefore results from better connections. You should also check in your router settings which "channel" it is using. There are generally 11 channels and it may be that other networks in your area are using the same channel. If so try switching to another. You may even do well to discuss with your neighbours so that you can all co-ordinate which channels you will use. Its also useful to note than when most routers boot up, they will often pick the least crowded channel, therefore resetting your router regularly will ensure its always on the least crowded channel. I also think the quality of your router will make a big difference. I used to scoff at those who bought branded routers when in essence I viewed them as a commodity product. How wrong I was. I replaced my ?20 router with one (much more expensive!) from Apple from which I noticed that not only was my signal stronger throughout the house, but it also travelled much further while maintaining good speeds. I would also say that you should distinguish between Virgin Cable and ADSL. ADSL uses BT's infrastructure and generally is slower than Virgins Fibre service. The speed you get on ADSL will be dictated by how many other people are using the connection and how far you are from the exchange. The cable service should be faster and more consistent. IF its not you should call Virgin, but in doing a speed test on ym Virgin Cable 20Mb service just now I registered a download speed of 19.75Mb
  9. i think the engineering works are on the branch that goes from PEckham Rye down through ED. The trains that are not busses (if that makes sence) will likely be those running from Victoria to LB via Denmark Hill (therefore they will not be affected by the works on the ED branch.

  11. Those who are experiencing pressure problems, are you on the top floor? I know my upstairs neighbour has similar problems but our pressure (on lower ground floor) is generally very high, but drops off slightly in the morning (though still sufficient).
  12. I read somewhere that its part of some "Southwark Mural" project. I noticed today that already someone has ruined the mural painted on the wall behind the bus stop. I was surprised at how angry that made me, seems no matter how hard people try to make things nice other people just want to ruin it.
  13. My flatmate and I go to the Herne pub quiz every Sunday at 1930. Its a really good quiz and the quizmaster is excellent!
  14. Thanks for all the advice. I took M4/M25/M40/M6(toll). All in it took me around 5 hours which is what I was roughly expecting with bank holiday traffic. I've done the same journey in the middle of the night before but from Dulwich and it only took 3 1/2 hours!
  15. Similar question from me. I'm starting from my work in Westminster and am looking to get to Manchester. I cant decide whether to go up edgeware rd and on to the M1 which will be a nightmare as it involves being in town for so long. The other option is to take the M40 either from the westway, or by going through Hammersmith M4/M25. My instinct says that in normal circumstances going by Hammersmith would be best, but not sure about venturing on the M25 around rush-hour on a bank holiday weekend.
  16. I love the Boris bikes, but why is the gearing so bad? Loz Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > You get fit in a matter of days. And if not, > there's a good A&E close by for when the body > gives in.
  17. The lane is open to busses again!!! Hooray!!! :)-D :))
  18. free school meals are not just about giving meals to the poorest children. By making provision universal you encourage all children to take the option. That way all children are getting at least one healthy meal a day, which for a large proportion will be more than they are currently getting.
  19. BBC London news running a story about free school meals in Southwark. It then cut to ED and stated "Is it fair that everyone, even in these affluent suburbs" gets free school meals!
  20. Thames Water were replacing pipes along the length of Rye Lane. According to Thames Water's original timetable, this was meant to take 3 month (ending in November) then the council would resurface. Thames Water fell miles behind, also holding up the council as there was no sense in resurfacing prior to the water works finishing.
  21. Just in case we'd forgotten (I'm sure we haven't) Thames Water first embarked upon this project at the end of August. 8 months to replace some pipe! I for one can not wait for this to be over. It does seem that the hole which exists at the bottom of Rye Lane has been there fore a while now without anyone actually doing any work on it (unless they start late in the day as it was past 9am when I went by this morning).

  23. Well as sods law would have it, after me posting above how reliable virgin is that's now 2 nights in a row where I've had no internet. It was back this morning and out again this evening. All virgin can tell me is that there is a fault in the area. Well duh!
