I'm not sure how responsive Southwark Council are in these matters but when my brother had a similar issue (a threatening dog and even oweners) it took Lewisham ages to do anything about it. When I first contacted them they weren't very helpful and said if the dog hadn't actually come in to contact with anyone then there wasn't anything they could do - my brother has 5 young children and lives next to a very aggressive cross breed dog that, at the time, was left out in the garden all day either trying to dig it's way under the fence or head butting the fence trying to break through. Quite clearly this wasn't the response we had hoped for as they wouldn't even send anyone to assess the environment. I ended up mass mailing all Lewisham Councillors stressing the point of why should anyone have to wait until someone is violently attacked by this animal before anyone takes any notice, to which I did finally get a response and my brothers partner was invited to meet with one nominated to handle the case along with the RSPCA and dangerous dog control people. To cut a long and boring story short when everything was looked in to the neighbours conveniently denied the dog actually lived with them and only visted from time to time. The council couldn't prove otherwise as the majority of residents near by didn't want to get involved and so could not really do anything about the dog. Everything, however is noted and my brother and partner have regular contact with the council on this matter. Be persistent with the authorities and gather as much support from those around (who will really do something rather than talk about it). (tu)

"seriously damage ED" a bit excessive don't you think? Not that I've ever been to GandB but yes it's departure from the lane would certainly be a loss for the area and those who frequent the establishment. *sighs* :( -
Brendan which Halfords was it... ?

From 250k-399k and it was a wreck? Don't think they would be making THAT much of a killing on it :-S -
I once had a "chugger" declare their undying love for me and got down on his knees in proposal... I suppose one could see that as a strong devotion to the cause...

I suggest half an hour as to start with they think they're on to a "sale" and then as time goes on they get annoyed at you wasting their time... ;-)

I often find, if you personally have the time, stopping to talk to them, get them to do their whole "sales pitch" stuff ask them some totally random questions that are quite indepth about the charity in question which they are unlikely to be able to answer, get into a loudly spoken but not shouting debate over such questions allowing others around to hear and then after say half an hour tell them you're not interested works a treat :)) This approach also works well for those religious fanatics who insist on forcing their views and beliefs on you! Also, politely pointing out, when going into a shop, that you only have money to spend on your shopping and then when coming out of the shop that you have spent all your money leaves them speechless hehe I can understand raising money in this fashion for charity is a big fund booster but really I do object to days on LL when there are several different charities stretched on both sides of the Lane all the way down and they won't leave you alone. To donate to charity is by choice yet they make you feel as if you're an evil person if you don't surrender to their harrassment.

Dog attacked my child (St Aiden's Road) (Lounged)
KalamityKel replied to mandyw's topic in The Lounge
James, just to further interupt the flow of this thread, I would like to point out I am not "middle class" and would kindly ask you to stop making judgements of people you do not know. You are provoking others into arguing with you over an issue that is not relevent to this thread. If you would like to continue this else where then please do but please refrain from making personal hits on people based on factless, pointless and empty opinions. Back on track... I agree with brendan and also a much earlier comment of re-introducing the dog licence. Stronger monitoring and even controls of who actually owns what type of dog and where the dog resides, i.e. in an area where either many kids are or indeed a large number of other dogs could help prevent others getting hurt. -

Few children from SE22 are privately educated
KalamityKel replied to trinity's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
James can one not go to a normal comp school and still be bright? Is that not an insult to the hard working kids who actually do do well at such institutes? Yes everyone is entitled to want the best for their child but don't give up on a place just because it has a bad reputation or fails to reach highly on any league table. some of the "rubbish" schools can produce high scoring achievers that go on to do well in further education and employment. -

James why are you making it a "class" issue? Neither DC or Chav have mentioned anything of the sort yet you continuously bring up this rubbish AND keep harping on about "chavs"!!! You mention "patronising"? Yes indeed! -
ClareC can you not draw cash out of your account if you take ID and various other bits down to your bank? IME Abbey are usually very good in getting a new pin and card out as soon as possible :-S
