New Parking Restrictions East Dulwich Road
EDmummy replied to suzyq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Thanks for sorting out my confusion. Gosh, I can now imagine how annoying it must be then for this very narrow road to have restrictions. I do have a great deal of sympathy for those living along this road. -
New Parking Restrictions East Dulwich Road
EDmummy replied to suzyq's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I'm confused. There is only one East Dulwich Road and it does not have speed humps. I always thought there was parking restrictions on this road. I didn't think you were ever allowed to park on this road from the junction from Crystal Palace Rd to the LL/Grove Vale roundabout and the top half of the road had some parking in front of the shops but not much. Edited to correct my atrocious spelling! -
No. 1 used to be The Bug (he used to borrow into his dad when he was very small) and Mr Smelly - now too old to be called either of these although Mr Smelly may come back when puberty hits! No. 2 was The Goo from birth (a dribbler for the first 3-4 yrs of his life). No. 2's name can be shortened in many ways as well so he often has one of a wide variety of names.

Missing Hospital on East Dulwich Grove.

I am sure you are right, Heft, regarding secondary girls schools but there are a number of coeducational schools and the girls school over the other side of Peckham Rye (it may not be ideal for your child but schools can change at an incredibly fast rate). Are we in fact missing a primary school that could fit on this site? -
Any packing tips for holiday with 3 month old baby????
EDmummy replied to MrsMc's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Definitely agree with allowing as much time as needed and stop when baby needs to stop. Sometimes simply taking them out of the car seat for 10 mins does the job. Once went to the North West with 4 week old and ended up in a detour of M6 through country side and huge traffic jams. Was sitting in the backseat with baby so I simply took him out of car seat whilst the traffic was very slow and breastfed him there without pulling over. My advice would be to not stress and go with the flow. In hindsight you will realise this is the easiest time to travel with baby! -
My mum always referrred to it as a "fanny" which I can understand by why she called my brother's eqiupment a "penny whistle" I do not know. I don't have girls but we call it their 'willy' but they prefer to call it their 'penis'. I must say I did not imagine that there were so many different names used for the same body part. I have a friend who calls it a 'puffer' which is the same name I call my asthma inhaler - cue children laughing hystericallly!

Missing Hospital on East Dulwich Grove.

With promises to cut government expenditure by all parties, I would suspect it unlikely that voting one way or the other would change any plans that may now be abandoned. Who knows, if bankers/business had not been so greedy the Govt may well have had the money to give the community what it had planned to offer. I too miss the building in my landscape but I will not miss the building's interior or odours! -
Perhaps they have been delayed in getting to your part of the street because someone didn't move their car.

Poor you. Sounds like you have really been through the wringer lately. I had rubella twice as a child and although I was older, it was quite a mild disease. The risk of rubella is, I believe, only to pregnant women so sadly incubation is the ticket. All the very best.

These last few posts really put the baby issue posts into perspective. I know how comforting parents with younger children find this section of the forum to find out about issues or to share but it would be great to see more posts from those who have older children. All stages are part of a journey and the child who at 2 exhibits independent tendancies will not always end up the suicidal teenager. Society is such that a lot of teenage children will experiment with drugs and/or sexually risky behaviour etc. We have a responsibility as parents to have a relationship of respect and openness. HH's post really opened my eyes to the foundations of that type of relationship.

Had nice day at Rotherhithe Farm today
EDmummy replied to Fuschia's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Is this the one near Surrey Quays cinema etc? We went to this one during the last half term and there was no feeding of animals and no cafe. Perhaps it was a bit early for all this to start. Love to know if it was the same one as we will definitely go back if so. My two absolutely love Christmas Tree Farm. A bit further thought. Although you have to buy feed and now has an entrance fee (we have been going for many, many years and it used to be free entry) the kids absolutely adore the experience and always end up having to drag them away. -
Poor, poor thing. I do hope the person recovers both physically and emotionally!

Dulwich Baths - refurbishment timetable

Hopefully Cllr Barber is going to get back to us and confirm the opening date. -
I walk through this area. Anyone know what time of day it happened?

Dulwich Baths - refurbishment timetable
EDmummy replied to EDmummy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
That is considerably past the original proposed opening date. Gutted. Did they tell you why there was to be a delay? -
We bought a fantastic bunk bed from Marks and Spencer about 2 yrs ago. It can be easily split into two single beds and is not as high as a lot of bunk beds so does not restrict head room for the top bunk. They were discounted at the time and cost about ?200. Not sure what the full price is but worth a look.

incident on east dulwich road (abuse from kids)
EDmummy replied to rgutsell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Not "unhelpful", Peckham Rose, just a different perspective. -

Must be the way you are reading it, SteveT. I absolutely agree anti-social behaviour needs addressing but sometimes it can be dangerous to be the one to take action. I was more concerned that someone could pull a knife on rgutsell. Maybe I am being over cautious. -

EDmummy replied to rgutsell's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yes, nasty experience. Did you consider not confronting them? Do you think they would have still damaged your car if you did not yell at them and opened your drivers door in a confrontational manner? Any police officer would have told you not to confront them for your own safety. These kids want a reaction and attention. You gave it to them. What have you gained? -
Take a virtual tour of the new Harris Academy
EDmummy replied to Reg Smeeton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
We have to accept now that the school is here. Many of our friend's children will have to attend it (mainly because they did not get their chosen school). I feel, we should, as a community, accept and support it. Nothing we can say is going to change that up to 900 boys are going to be attending this school so it is up to us all as a community to proud of it and make it the best school it can be. And, for those who don't want it on their doorstep, if it does succeed, it will certainly increase their house prices! -
Summer mat leave vs winter mat leave
EDmummy replied to ryedalema's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Done mat leave in both and summer is definitely my favourite time for mat leave.
