Breast Milk STINKS...............apparently
EDmummy replied to FatherJack's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thank you Helena for your first post on this subject. Added a great deal of balance to a thread that has frankly made me re-evaluate a lot of the usual posters in this section. Just to add, in case no one noticed, EMC, who is a journalist, said that she had investigated the claim that a women had been asked to get off a bus because she was breast feeding and had found that the story did not hold up. Correct me if I am wrong, EMC. So, the Daily Mail, a newspaper or record?! -
Babies have been eating mush for a very long time and I don't see that many children or adults who can't feed themselves. As I have said before, it is all about balance. There are certain foods that are very nutritious that are just difficult to give to a baby unless they are mashed. My child that was fussy about mashed food as a baby is the one who is still fussy whereas the one who didn't care what his food looked is the one who will eat everything.

Lee B, you do 2 loads of washing a day for a 7 month old?! I can only imagine this might be because you are using real nappies, otherwise, bizarre. Sorry to hear about your washing machine, Monkey. Afraid I can't help

Well said Fuschia and Nappy Lady. I remember exactly what is was like fretting through these cluster feeds the first time round. Give yourself ... and your baby a break. This type of cluster feeding is ideal to allow you time to catch up on your sleep in the early months. It was only the second time around that I took full benefit of this and so wish I had the insight to have done with baby No. 1. Your baby sounds he/she is doing exactly what they need to do and there is no point in cloistering yourself away to do this.

PLEASE see a trained allergist through a referral from your GP and not someone who runs a health shop, however knowledgeable they may be.
-
I would suggest that you mention this to your GP or midwife if it goes on very much longer. There is a very rare condition where "morning sickness" can last throughout pregnancy and it might be important that you flag what you are curently experiencing with whoever is looking after you.

I am peeved by the coaches outside Alleyns

Thanks for that information, Townleygreen. So, who can tell me the terms and conditions of "Metropolitan open space" and how does one get this classification overturned in part? -

Without reading the last page or so, your post Mr Barber seems to miss the overall point of this thread. The buses outside Alleyns cause traffic hazards, especially to cyclists. There is land on the school's grounds which could be used to house these buses in way that is safe to all people who work, live and cycle/drive in the area. In addition, people parking too close to the road islands means that Townley Road ends up a bit of slalom course. This is not about the whys and wherefores of private education, car use or any other red herring. This is about a school in the local area respecting the residents and users of that area! -
What we also don't often hear about in the press but is widely known in the medical profession is middle class parents being overly cautious about allowing any sugar in a child's diet (albeit when they are slightly older than weaning) and this leading to underweight and under-height children. Children need complex sugars for brain development and growth and again it is all about balance.

Anyone else had weird mail like this?
EDmummy replied to figgins's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
EDdaddy had something like this although name and address were correct. Pages of ramblings which I think were of a racist nature. The postmark was Birmingham or somewhere else in the Midlands. We just ignored it and binned it. We also bought a shredder in case we had accidentally left something with our names and addresses on it in the recycling or rubbish. -
These books are always good for reference but when it comes down to it, the leaflet given at baby clinic is all you need, especially if you are on a low income. First time round I slavishly followed Annabel Karmel, second time round was more relaxed and just cooked up extra veg and bought small amounts of fish or meat (if we were not eating it) and did not season anything until portions had been taken for freezing. Guess which child is now the fussy eater!! As for baby led weaning - it is all about balance and not doctrine!

Definitely Mr Gum books - the kids roll in the aisles.
-
Mega Kickers is for 5-7 yr olds (or rising 4s). The kids love it.

Having had measles, mumps and rubella as a child I am glad my children will not have to go through these now. My brother was hospitalised with measles and I certainly wouldn't want to see my children as ill as he was. As a parent you have to weigh it up, a week of sore throat and fever or the possibility of something much worse.

My 9 year old has just got in to Children's Miscellany. Lots of random facts. Same type of things I used to discover pouring over my Childcraft Encyclopedia when I was this age.

Anyone been to Turkey on holiday with kids?
EDmummy replied to ladywotlunches's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Had a fantastic holiday in Mediterranean Turkey last year. Not a single upset tummy for any of us (children 3 & 8 at the time), roads are great, supermarkets brilliant, beach fantastic, pool and gardens stunning, all amenities great. The area we were in had all modern amenities and fantastic restaurants. Certainly better developed than a number of European countries I have been to. I would highly recommend a trip - just remember to ensure all rooms have aircon. We usually get apartments through www.holidaylettings.co.uk -
Thanks. Will get in touch with them.

Since you all asked so nicely...some tool threatened someone with a gun. Thankfully, nobody got shot.

Usually love a bit of gossip but as I said, it was a "relatively reliable source" so I would not like to say until this was corroborated.
-
Just heard the reason for this event from a relatively reliable source. This has now convinced me that the police reaction was totally proportionate.

Does anyone know of any school holiday clubs (thinking Easter and Summer)that take children from 4? My youngest will be almost 5 at the time but the only one I know about at Alleyns starts from 5 yrs. We have luckily had family to help out with the oldest for the last 5 years but unfortunately cannot rely on this anymore. Ideally looking for something that can give us an option on the number of days as we only need 3 days a week.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
EDmummy replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It really depends on the age of the child peeing. Young children who are only just getting used to being out of nappies are unable to hold on for very long at all. That, to me is perfectly acceptable if the parents make them do their pee on the road. -

The council. It is a public road and if they are blocking it then they are breaking the law. It is not only the coaches that park badly. Often cars are parked so close to the crossing island that you have to hold your breath in to get past. -
Saw this all begin cnr Ulverscroft and Watelely - v low key at around 8.00pm. Two capped police interviewing one or two blokes. Turned into Landells and saw a few more police cars cruising. Must have kicked off after that.
