I co-slept and breastfed both of mine on demand as a very natural response to each individual child (although baby no. 2 took to the bottle without fuss after spending time in Special Care - where they said I would "never get him on the breast now!")....and never, ever read GF (GF only just out when 1st was born and was old hand by the time of second). I am no hippy mother earth type but quickly caught on that in order to be close and loving to my children this approach was what my children responded to the best. I do feel that many mothers feel that their child should conform to their lives which makes me sad although I would NEVER criticise another mother's approach - god knows we get blamed for enough things (see thread on the attack on LL). And...I once met Fuschia (you bought my breastfeeding chair).

Swine Flu at St John's & St Clement's School
EDmummy replied to Bellenden Jo's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Please, unless you are a health professional please don't comment on the medical aspects of this infection! Misinformation and rumours can cost lives!! R&A, just for the record the lady who died in Glasgow had underlying health problems (stroke in her mid-30s) in conjunction with being pregnant. Women do not have "lower immune" systems during pregnancy but changed immune systems - fight bacterial infections better, less well at fighting viral infections. If anyone has any questions about symptoms, risks and treatments please refer to this website. -
attempted mugging - North Cross Road
EDmummy replied to myrmidon's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
In those bleak days before the Forum I believe just as many incidents occurred - the only difference - it used to be a yellow board that told you something had occurred. That is not to say that everyone should always be aware of their own personal safety as you would if you lived in a big city anywhere. -
Attempt at irony, citizenED. Bored rather than "motherhood moment".

Gosh Moos, you have been posting on here since 2007. Judging by your comments, I thought you actually lived here.

I know it must seem arcane to you but if you were visually impaired...or dare I say it, trying to push a single or even double buggy, it is likely that the moped would have caused an obstruction. By all means, fight it if you feel that your case is strong. Good luck.

Louisana, didn't you say on another thread that you drink but your partner doesn't. How is this different to a veggie with a non-veggie (I know plenty of people like that - they happen to be together for love). Back to the question, I am a meat eater who loves veggie food and often struggle finding something good locally. Will definitely try Domali!

Anyone else in ED got this strange bug?
EDmummy replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
True EdieF pharmacists cannot diagnose but they often are the first people to notice when a number of people in an area have the same symptoms and how the local doctors are treating the symptoms. -
Anyone else in ED got this strange bug?
EDmummy replied to Sue's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you are very worried and have been sick for more than 3 days with diarrhoea or vomiting go to the doctor. Sore eyes could have a number of causes - allergic rhinitis (very common even in people who do not have other symptoms in nose), sitting in front of a computer screen too long with bad lighting, tiredness because of poor quality sleep. If you really don't want to go to the doctors or cannot get an appointment, speak to a pharmacist. There may well be medically trained people on the Forum and it would be great if they responded but failing that, you may just end up with a bit of scare mongering (Dengue Fever?!). Edited to say, I hope you feel better soon. -

Not me...but I am not sure whether to take offence, Snorky! Is this defamation? -
Parking Fine today on lordship lane...grrrrrr
EDmummy replied to elliemon's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Now, I could be completely wrong because I don't park on Lordship Lane but isn't it a clearway for buses from 4.00pm? I know it is in the morning. -
I was going to hold off complaining about this place and thought I would go to them directly but as Sue has bought it up...services was TERRIBLE and the lady, although very sweet, did not seem to have ever worked in a cafe before. Once the food finally arrived (20 min wait and we were the only ones there) I was thoroughly disappointed - goat's cheese salad which was two small pieces of french stick with melted goats cheese on top with barely cooked (white) onion placed on the top and a pile of lettuce. Not really what I had in mind for a 'salad'. I really want them to be successful but they must really sort out the waiting staff and develop some serving patterns (the layout of the cluttered bar area does seem to put them at a disadvantage)and thinking through the salads would be great.

I was at a meeting in Vauxhall when 16 military helicopter flew overhead. All got a little worried about why so many were in the air, especially American colleagues. Bought back memories of 7/7 for me as helicopter gun ships flew past our windows down the Thames. They did look impressive.

Not sure what affect the Olympics will have on ED rental market but friends who were in Sydney during their Olympics found themselves turfed out of their rental property so it could be rented for a short amount of time for incredibly inflated prices. In years after, property prices went up considerably - I suppose lots of people seeing Sydney for the first time wanted part of a lovely city.

The African / Carribean place on Bellenden Road
EDmummy replied to lenk's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Bit of a trek from central ED but my appetite is whetted! My African experiences have been all East African but love Caribbean food. Wonder if they do good take-away? -

Even before checking it on Snopes the language used should be a give away - we don't "shift" gears in the UK!

Military helicopter landing in field behind Sainsburys
EDmummy replied to EDmummy's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just wanted to know what it was doing - not what it was. Some of you have revealed an anorak or two! -
I was standing in the Sainsburys carpark yesterday afternoon and watched as a military helicopter circled overhead, getting ever closer. It dropped out of sight and I assumed it landed in the field behind Sainsburys. Anyone else see it or know what it was doing? It was definitely a military helicopter and not a Police or ambulance one.

Apologies if I am a little confused but is Louisa saying here that someone's taste buds are associate with snobbishness or their class? I am not a sausage roll fan as they are far too fatty/oily for my taste (and that is not a social statement) but when it comes down to meatiness, EDD's win hands down!

What the hell is going on on Barry Road? (shooting)
EDmummy replied to TonyQuinn's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Firstly, condolences to the family. Nobody deserves to die in this way. To Andy&kez, I can completely understand your apprehension so soon after this terrible incident but sadly "moving out the the sticks" does not make you immune to witnessing such events. Think about Dunblane - small, quiet lovely Scottish village going about its own business. At least in London the chance of something like this happening to you if you are not involved in the seedier side of life is very slim. -
Davina Boutique - 82 Lordship Lane
EDmummy replied to macroban's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Where? I was driving down LL this morning and saw one of the girls who works there walking up the street towards the shop. Do you mean the company is in administration or similar?
