  1. MichelleT, you should not have to take a annual leave to go to your appointment. Read your HR policy. You should be allowed time to attend appointments without affecting your A/L.
  2. Don't know if 10 years ago is newish but I did not see Oakwood midwife until after first scan with first child and probably not until 16 or so weeks with second child. If you are at all nervous or concerned your GP should always be your first point of call. Midwives do provide support at regular period throughout a pregnancy but it is your GP who is best placed to assess whether there are any concerns that require further investigation. Lots of speculation about what the expectation should be. Perhaps someone who has some idea of the Oakwood's care plan could contribute.
  3. Walk in Dulwich Woods? Nice and muddy at the moment!
  4. I know it has been said before, but I want to marry you also SMBJones. You truly are the most helpful man around (many apologies if I have misinterpreted you as being a man but would marry you either way - if I was not already "taken" - but that is another story). You are the type of RSS we all need to our phones in times like these.
  5. One Australian parent, one parent from the North West and they live in London - our kids are tri-lingual. They use North West of England pronunciation when talking to their dad and London for me. If I pronounce things in "Australian" they ask me to speak English!!
  6. I used to travel for work reasonably frequently when my oldest was under 3. I, of course, was always anxious but it ended up being a fantastic opportunity for dad and child to bond. I made sure I phoned first thing in the morning and just before bedtime to say good night and prepared everyone (dad and child) as much as possible before leaving. This included making sure that all clothes were washed, easy to prepare or food I had cooked earlier was available and friends on standby if needed. I would also provide a list of things that needed to be done each day (eg., drop nappies at nursery, pick up times etc) in order to give hubby something to refer to if he became a bit overwhelmed. No lasting damage to child 8 years later and in fact I often get asked when I am going away again because "it is great when you are away"!! Best of luck.
  7. Overhill was clear to drive last night and may well be the same tonight.
  8. News on Heber would be good. They do not appear on the Southwark website.
  9. Same as sillywoman. Cried buckets when first child started...subsequent child was waved off with a smile!
  10. I am sorry to hear of your daughter's distress over her loose bowels. I am sure you had done some internet research on this. Have you considered that she may have an intolerance to dairy? You could try a small exclusion diet for her (one food type at a time) over a week or so each and see if she benefits. As a child, I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy (different with different symptoms to intolerance) but nevertheless, an allergist proposed a series of exclusions to find out what was causing my symptoms. It was then discovered that I had an intolerance to tomatoes and strawberries as well - both of which gave me similar symptoms to your daughter. It might be worth having a chat to someone with medical training who could consider this possibility. Good luck.
  11. Nikki, a truly brave woman! She must certainly be awarded a bravery award by the borough and perhaps even treated to some free groceries by Sainsburys.
  12. Think this might have to do with the water pouring down Colyton Rd to the junction with Forest Hill Rd. This could be a death trap if it froze overnight so perhaps Thames Water felt it needed to act immediately. In a short journey through South London today I saw about 4 or 5 incidences of burst water pipes. Sadly these pipes have all been affected by this cold snap (which has been going on for so much longer than I can ever remember for many winters).
  13. Our lights in the kitchen go a bit weird when the weather gets cold (something to do with condensation in the space between ceiling and roof) and this then causes other appliances to "spark" (apologies for the non technical terms). Could this be the problem for you, Goodliz?
  14. Have posted this query under another thread but no one has responded. We were at Peckham Rye Park pond on 22 Dec and noticed a seagull stuck on one of the plant islands which are surrounded by wire. The seagull could not fly out and was in distress. We reported it to the park warden who said that someone had reported it about 4 hrs earlier. He was surprised that it had not got out but did not seem interested in doing anything further. A friend I was with rang the council and they said they would inform Animal Control (or some other such department). Been away for a week and not back to the park since the 22nd. Does anyone know what happened? Did the seagull get out? My kids are quite anxious to know.
  15. The warden told us someone had reported it at around 10.00am the same day we did at 2pm. Make that 4 hrs.
  16. Wondered what that duck was on the lake. The mandarin duck is certainly very beautiful. Lets hope it stays. Any one know the fate of the seagull caught in one of the meshed plant islands on 22nd Dec? We reported to the park warden and a friend rang the Council who said they would get Animal Control out. It had been there about 4 hours when we saw it.
  17. Sususudio, my thoughts are with you at this scary time. Being a late mum twice, to me it did not matter to if our child had Downs or not and that either way we would go ahead with the pregnancy. This is not a decision all parents are able to make but it may be a starting point for discussing the choice with your partner. If you feel that you would go ahead with the pregnancy even if the CSV came back positive then perhaps you may feel that there is no point in the test. I want to wish you all the best, whatever decision you take.
  18. We applied successfully online last year. Those I know who had problems were those who sent their applications by post and no online. If you have received text and emails confirming them you have evidence of receipt and therefore evidence for any appeal should there be any problems (of course, this does not guarantee that you will get the schools you have applied for).
  19. Looks like they may be moving the "privilege" around. We used to lose our electricity about 3-4 times a year (immediate neighbours unaffected but every second or third house out). 'Touch wood' this hasn't happened for about a year.
  20. Let Holborn at 4.45pm, got to ED 8.45pm - is that a record?!
  21. I never discuss my two horrific births with anyone of child bearing age!
  22. Second Uomo - he does three generations of males in my family and they all love him.
  23. Rubbish bins on pavement overflowing at the Underhill Road end of Hindmans Road. Seems they have not been emptied because residents have put rubbish in the brown bins. Whatever bins this food waste has been put in, after not emptying them for over a month they are now causing a health hazard. Of course, I can report this to the Environment Team for them to sort out when I have time but there must be some greater responsibility taken by the refuse teams whether they are household or garden waste teams. Whilst I am at it, sent an email to the team in charge of Dulwich Park about the state of the playground and asking for their long term plans for this area (play equipment is seriously out dated). Four months have past and no reply. How long should I expect to wait for a response?
  24. They never used to take kids under 5 yrs old so I took this as them not being particularly child friendly. You could try Uomo (sp?) near the Mag. He has a chair that looks like a car and cartoons sometimes on the TV.
